Sheila was available to handle a nasty situation - someone was in our room already and the alternate room was for 2 and we were a party of 3! A cot was moved in, making the room quite cramped but we had a roof over our heads! Our luggage was then moved to a larger space and we were very happy with the accommodations.
Although we were in a nice neighborhood and a school across the street, there was a lot of traffic noise. Kenyon proved to be a busy street and seems there may have been a hospital nearby- emergency vehicles!
Feel very homey. A nice kitchen and a nice living room with a piano. Very close to metro station.
Columbia Heights has a young vibe evolving fast, the guest house puts you in amongst the community. The room was great for sleeping and you can relax in the lounge with a piano, or the sitting room and kitchen. Lovely bathroom, welcoming garden. Nearby Wonderland Bar and coffee venues.
Wardrobe space doesn't function well in the Asian Lantern room as it lacks hanging space. A local map pointing to the cafes away form the metro would have been great
This is a beautiful house with a lovely room where I stayed and all the amenities to live without having to go to restaurants should you be in DC for business or pleasure. The ground floor with kitchen and dining room plus the grand piano was an unexpected pleasure!
I could not seem to get much hot water in my room and the TV was stuck on one channel. Neither of these things bothered me but other people might not like it.
No personal contact. No entrance code sent in advance. Plumbing issues. Basement apartment. Musty smell. Corridors were dark!!!
The room with a balcony was AMAZING! Despite other reviewers' posts, I really liked the keypad entry and the feeling that you were entering a home. I will definitely stay again.
The parking was tricky. But the amazing balcony, home feel, and excellent location made me want to come back. Truly a great, welcoming place! I will just leave my non-small car at home next time. This is a DC thing, though. Asante Sana was great, and I will stay there next time I'm in DC.
a place recommended for young people with very small luggage
a lot of safety risks : narrow stairs, folding chairs, door that opens unsafely
Comfortable bed and roomy quarters. I liked making my coffee and sitting on the front porch in the morning.
The parking is quite difficult.
- The kitchen in the room was very good (excellent microwave and sink). - The bed was extremely comfortable. - The TV was really good. - You can do your laundry in the basement, excellent washing machine and drier. - There is an excellent supermarket (Giant) near to the hotel. - There were some armchairs in the room, they were really comfortable!
- When I booked the room, they didn't explain that I would need a password to enter the hotel. There are no employees, I only spoke to a cleaning lady. When we arrived I didn't know about the password, so we were locked outside. We didn't have internet, we didn't have telephone and there was nobody in the hotel to help us. - The room was a little bit noisy. You could hear people from other rooms and from outside. - The curtains were terrible, or the lack of them. Outside light comes in at 6 a.m. - The AC was located beside the bed. So the wind from it blew straight at us. It was impossible to sleep with it on, so the room got a little too hot. - In the bathroom, the hood ceiling was filled with dust. I mean, A LOT OF dust.
Beautiful house & area! Great location!
Good job I had use of mobile phone or we would have struggled gaining access to the accommodation.
It's good for staying for family with kitchen.
There's out of electricity while we stayed there and the building is too old, I see the mouse on the gardon.
Location was very good for us. Room clean.
Window air conditioner in Asian room not only did not cool the room (Wash DC was 87 that night) but it was directed to blow on the person nearest the window. Hallways and back porch in very poor condition so worried about boards creaking and at risk for collapse.
I will be staying here again for sure. Location is awesome. Really close to the metro, we didn't even use our car once while we were there. The room is exactly what we needed. A comfortable, safe place to stay for a good price.
I didn't see any staff while we were there. It would have been nice to have locals on the property to ask about "must-do's"
We loved the location, adventure, quirkiness, and the ease of staying in this house.
The wifi was a little troublesome. Other than that, it was a wonderful stay.
Cheap solution for someone looking for budget accommodation in Washington.
I stayed at the Asante Sana for 2 nights and didn't meet anyone; this felt very strange. I had a 'garden level' room, which meant a room with no natural daylight in the basement.
Location was ok. Parking at the back yard.
Bathroom at different floor than our room. General degradation (especially in the room) - rather old building.
Absolutely loved this place!!! It was so neat feeling like we were locals for the day :)
No hot water on second day of stay
We had our car towed right in front of the hotel and the owner did NOT know when the parking was illegal, she gave us the wrong times. It cost $100 to get it back. Room had no window, depressing.
The location was good - only about 10 minutes outside of the city center The housekeeper was excellent & you didn't worry about your things The house was very clean & comfortable The neighborhood felt safe
Parking was pretty horrendous - two spots in the back (and one of those was taken round the clock) and on the street parking was not only scarce, cars need to be moved by 7 a.m. Noisy bar at the corner (the one way street was blocked off when we arrived & we weren't made aware) Bring your own clothes iron and hairdryer - there isn't one available No notice of where to find essentials (t.p., paper towels) when no one was on-site No maps or indicator of nearest transit connects Kitchen really inadequate (few cooking utensils, 2 grilling pans- the kind with grooves, one pot with no lid, no skillet), so plan to eat your meals out It took some time to get a hold of the owner to confirm reservations the week or two before our trip The path from the back of the house to the car park was muddy (looks like they're doing some renovation, but this left a big patch of exposed dirt and one little plywood plank upon which to traverse the dirt/mud) - tough job when you're carrying things
Location very convenient for metro and shops. Pleasant safe area with nice cafés and restaurants
Kitchen not very well equipped
Our room was cleaned everyday, and linens were provided daily.
There was an issue twice with no hot water. This was after 10pm when you wouldn't expect much usage. Hot water is like toilet paper; when you need it you need it!
Despite the parking, this is my second stay. The place is lovely.
Two of the only four parking spaces are blocked by the other guests' or staff's cars. The management does little to help people blocked in. I am not sure I will be back if this is not remedied despite how much I love the place.
Situation close to shopping, restaurants and metro in a safe neighborhood. House and rooms were clean and comfortable. Our privat bathroom was a little bit away but this was no problem. Door lock worked perfectly.
You have to know that there is noone to welcome you. But this was not really a problem for us.
We stayed in a room on the ground floor. It was very simple, a little worn and cold (in late March), but clean. We hardly were in the room so it was fine for our needs. I liked the shared kitchen facilities, especially for a quick and cheap breakfast. I did not meet the hostess, but spoke to her on the phone a couple times and she was quite helpful. It was an easy walk to the Metro and in a residential, rather than hotel area. I would stay there again, but would try for a room on the second or third floor.
The brick shower was a bit rustic for my taste and the bed linens were a bit thin and worn, but clean, which is what matters most to me!
