Not a "bad experience" but the room was bare-bones and we found out we could have had a much nicer room at another nearby place for less money.
Easy access and good location for us on this trip. Room was clean. We had no contact with any staff while there except the maid service - a very nice and helpful family.
This was worse place I ever stayed in! I arrived late in the night and could not enter the place because the code I was given did not work. The room was extremely small, very low ceiling and no window!! Furniture very shabby. Heating not working and flimsy blankets! Zero service and no response to my quires via email. This place does not comply with building and safety standards and I wonder how they could get a license! I paid 150 USD per night for a place that is worth at best 50 USD per night! I travel a lot but I never felt cheated like in this place. Not even in Haiti after the earthquake were clients abused like in this guesthouse!
The neighborhood in a slow process of gentrification has its charm but is not considered safe. For people not familiar with the city not recommendable
Wifi signal was weak.
Near the Metro, great price, huge common room, comfortable room, quiet.
Asante is right in the middle of several schools and among a lot of housing for young professionals. Great for getting a feel for locals in DC. Non-touristy yet lots of good restaurants nearby - love it!
The creaky floorboards were a minor issue on the morning we were leaving because someone upstairs was pacing around constantly for an hour. But I can't complain because the night before we were dancing in front of the bed. Other than that, there was nothing else that bothered us or anything we didn't like This is a fantastic place to stay (specifically the Web Dubois) and I would highly recommend it, especially to couples
Stayed for two near-perfect nights over Valentines weekend- Large, awesome, Temperpedic bed. Way more spacious than I expected it to be. A fat-drawered useful dresser below the flatscreen tv with DVD player (Redbox is a must - At a Giant grocery store 3 blocks away) Room decorations were very pleasant, classy, and simple. Nice shower once you figure out the spaceship control for the just-right-temperature of water (Twist left). Microwave and fridge/freezer was quite convenient for midnight Chinese food (right around the block). Large bathroom with nice sink, however floors are hardwood so towels on the floor after a shower are a must. Very creaky floorboards right outside the room but the room practically had it's own staircase so it wasn't a problem. Room smelled nice (always a factor). Made pancakes in the kitchen downstairs one morning, my girlfriend did not like them partially because I'm a terrible cook, but the kitchen supplied everything I needed (had milk, butter too). I met the host and she was nice to talk to; respected our privacy very much. Overall I would definitely stay here again, moderately priced for a DC inn and decent location.
Not a thing!
Great location... Friendly people... Excellent experience.
My private bathroom was downstairs. This was fine for me but some people might not have welcomed the step staircase. The owner notified me beforehand and made clear that I could change room if needed but it would be sensible if Booking.com mentioned this in room details. Overall I have to say I was glad I booked here rather than a big hotel. Very nice stay.
Very nice house with character in pleasant neighbourhood and close to metro and buses. Easy to get downtown. Very comfortable and nice to have access to a kitchen. Quiet and peaceful. A pleasant stay.
some work could be done to sure up walk way and back stairs.
This Charming Town House is across from a school.. The neighborhood is youthful and very family oriented. Our room - the light house room was large, comfortable and much more than we had expected or hoped for. We drove - so the free off-street parking was great. Only 2 blocks from the metro---when we go back - will plan to park and ride!. Would definitely stay again.
A little far away from the main attractions, White House etc.
Cosy apartment , nice area
Advertised as B&B, but there were no breakfast options on site, you have to bring your own. Parking was first come first served, I got a spot in the evening. It has the option of parking and leaving your keys for person to move your car if you are blocking them in, but I didn't know that until later.
Great location, $10 cab ride to downtown Washington, or nearby metro, sweet neighborhood, nearby dining, parking in back.
room located in a basement, only small window in the bathroom.
Atmosphere at all, free parking, very nice bar in neighbor house
The pictures of the room online were definitely misleading... the room looks a lot bigger than it actually is. I would definitely have left if the room was refundable. I would only recommend this room for two people. Also, there are a lot of bugs because it is a street level room. Overall we weren't there much so it was tolerable but I would def spend my money somewhere else next time
It was a good location (within walking distance of Howard) and the parking lot was helpful since parking was a pain at times. Owner was nice and made sure we were comfortable.
Although we were in a nice neighborhood and a school across the street, there was a lot of traffic noise. Kenyon proved to be a busy street and seems there may have been a hospital nearby- emergency vehicles!
Sheila was available to handle a nasty situation - someone was in our room already and the alternate room was for 2 and we were a party of 3! A cot was moved in, making the room quite cramped but we had a roof over our heads! Our luggage was then moved to a larger space and we were very happy with the accommodations.
Feel very homey. A nice kitchen and a nice living room with a piano. Very close to metro station.
Wardrobe space doesn't function well in the Asian Lantern room as it lacks hanging space. A local map pointing to the cafes away form the metro would have been great
Columbia Heights has a young vibe evolving fast, the guest house puts you in amongst the community. The room was great for sleeping and you can relax in the lounge with a piano, or the sitting room and kitchen. Lovely bathroom, welcoming garden. Nearby Wonderland Bar and coffee venues.
I could not seem to get much hot water in my room and the TV was stuck on one channel. Neither of these things bothered me but other people might not like it.
This is a beautiful house with a lovely room where I stayed and all the amenities to live without having to go to restaurants should you be in DC for business or pleasure. The ground floor with kitchen and dining room plus the grand piano was an unexpected pleasure!
No personal contact. No entrance code sent in advance. Plumbing issues. Basement apartment. Musty smell. Corridors were dark!!!
The parking was tricky. But the amazing balcony, home feel, and excellent location made me want to come back. Truly a great, welcoming place! I will just leave my non-small car at home next time. This is a DC thing, though. Asante Sana was great, and I will stay there next time I'm in DC.
The room with a balcony was AMAZING! Despite other reviewers' posts, I really liked the keypad entry and the feeling that you were entering a home. I will definitely stay again.
a lot of safety risks : narrow stairs, folding chairs, door that opens unsafely
a place recommended for young people with very small luggage
The parking is quite difficult.
Comfortable bed and roomy quarters. I liked making my coffee and sitting on the front porch in the morning.
- When I booked the room, they didn't explain that I would need a password to enter the hotel. There are no employees, I only spoke to a cleaning lady. When we arrived I didn't know about the password, so we were locked outside. We didn't have internet, we didn't have telephone and there was nobody in the hotel to help us. - The room was a little bit noisy. You could hear people from other rooms and from outside. - The curtains were terrible, or the lack of them. Outside light comes in at 6 a.m. - The AC was located beside the bed. So the wind from it blew straight at us. It was impossible to sleep with it on, so the room got a little too hot. - In the bathroom, the hood ceiling was filled with dust. I mean, A LOT OF dust.
- The kitchen in the room was very good (excellent microwave and sink). - The bed was extremely comfortable. - The TV was really good. - You can do your laundry in the basement, excellent washing machine and drier. - There is an excellent supermarket (Giant) near to the hotel. - There were some armchairs in the room, they were really comfortable!
Good job I had use of mobile phone or we would have struggled gaining access to the accommodation.
Beautiful house & area! Great location!
There's out of electricity while we stayed there and the building is too old, I see the mouse on the gardon.
It's good for staying for family with kitchen.
Window air conditioner in Asian room not only did not cool the room (Wash DC was 87 that night) but it was directed to blow on the person nearest the window. Hallways and back porch in very poor condition so worried about boards creaking and at risk for collapse.
Location was very good for us. Room clean.
