LOVED the building, so beautiful, in daylight and when lamp-lit by night; Very glad that the style of the building had been maintained rather than modernised; Peacefulness of the location; Staff - courteous, efficient, friendly, helpful.
had to queue for breakfast; the all inclusive breakfast was all too sweet, could have included a savoury item; restaurant menu quite expensive.
Great old style setting. Ideal for touring yosemite vally. Great atmosphere.
Location and buildings. Building was picture perfect and only a short drive to Mariposa Grove for the redwood trees.
Staff weren't very helpful at check in or when asking for information about hikes. To access shared bathrooms had to walk outside in the cold. Breakfast included didn't include any hot meals, hot meals were extra. Bedroom was very small and noisy. Could hear all the noise from the lobby.
location atmosphere helpful staff
Location was excellent, staff friendly, beautiful buildings and room. Comfy bed, delicious food. Shared bathroom and shower facilities were spotless.
Stayed in Little White and could hear everything people in next room said. Not an issue for us but something to be aware of. Other buildings are newer and may have thicker walls.
Like going back in time, charming and cozy. Great food. Piano and fun in the parlor downstairs is reminiscent of days gone by. I'll definitely go back.
Extremely limited wireless access. Unnecessarily so. Be aware some rooms are shared bathroom facilities. Which are spotless, just shared.
The hotel fits perfectly in to the scenery and does not pull you out of your park experience (it adds to it). Very close to Mariposa Grove. Food was very good. There is also a gas station and market a short walk away. Tennis, golf, and a pool (seasonal) all onsite. Cocktails in the lodge with a fire burning and live music can't be beat. We would definitely stay here again.
If your daily activities will largely be in Yosemite Valley, then this isn't as ideally located as other places, but it is only a 20-30 car ride to the valley. Most rooms are shared bathroom situations, with the cottages having a little bit more competition for the facilities. The Annex seemed to have more resources. Not a dislike as we had no problem with the shared bathrooms (they were well stocked and very clean), but sometimes we had to make several attempts to take a shower. Wifi is only available in one section of the hotel, but the whole point of getting away is to disconnect a bit.
Loved the attempt to keep the place original. A real experience.
After a not-too-long drive from the bottom of Yosemete Valley, on a winding mountain road, you turn one more corner to be surprised with the ellegance and beauty of this place. We arrived there in the evening tired after long hike, and walked into an atmospheric world of historic interiors, life piano music, working fire place, very friendly stuff, delicious food etc. The room was very well eqiupped, with antique pieces. In the morning we discovered a picturesque surrounding, deck chairs scattered within huge pine trees - great experience
You could hear other guests in the other room though.
The position gives this hotel its advantage, but by normal standards there are some problems.
Rooms look out onto the walkway around the hotel with creaky floor boars, As the bathrooms are communal this means that people who need to use the bathroom during the night are creaking around outside your door! Rooms are small and basic. no aircon, no tea making no ensuite.
Ideal location. Shirt drive from the main attraction points, or failing that there is a shuttle.
Very outdated. Hotel and room decor not for young couples. If you don't have a private bathroom, facilities are poor, not even a sink, shared bathroom is outside of room accommodation so can be very cold. WiFi spot is not in main building but in a completely separate building, ironically where the private bathroom users are. This facility seems to be catered for these people only. No TV in room or lounge. Rooms are not double glazed so you can hear everyone and everything. Breakfast was very poor unless you pay for the extras. Not really a place for young couples. With all this in mind, not very good value for money.
Wawona Hotel provides a charming historic hotel for seeing the Mariposa Grove in southwest Yosemite. The rooms might be a shock for modern travelers, as they are small (typical for the era). Also the hotel was built before indoor plumbing was common so bathrooms are shared in an attached unit at the back of the building. We enjoyed the dining experience, the nightly piano playing and the views from our room.
Relaxing atmosphere. Swimming pool was warm enough to swim in. Comfortable grounds to relax in.
Room was very dirty, old and tatty, very dusty. There's a difference between 'Old Colonial' and just plain old and tatty. We knew the bathroom would be 'shared', but we didn't expect to share it with 20+ rooms on the same floor!! If that had been highlighted on the website, then we would not have booked. We feel that in this regard the hotel is not representing itself accurately. We had dinner in the restaurant, it was cold and we had to send it back. We thought the menu was over-priced. Same comment about the hotel cost. We didn't use the night robes as they looked like they hadn't been laundered in a long time.
It was nice to be staying in the park. The hotel has a cute rustic charm to it.
there are no other restaurants nearby so our only option after 6pm when we arrived was the dinning room with the cheapest entree at 27$. The bathrooms are shared so when I had to use the restroom at 3am I had to bundle up and put shoes on to walk to the other side of the hotel.
It is everything one would expect, no surprises. Very nice stay. No issues. Very nice staff.
No a/c, but there was a fan in the room so that helped. It is an old building, so you expect it to be somewhat rustic.
Large porches, spacious grounds.
No a/c, shared bath.
Staff was great Breakfast was ok
rooms are very old, I know it was an expensive location but 250.00 is kinda high for such an old Hotel. The couple next to us talked so loud you would think they were in our room with us.
The period nature of the hotel, we booked a room with shared facilities but the bathrooms and showers were very clean and also quite. We were happy not having an en suite next to the room. the room was small but was in keeping with its period features.
No air conditioning in the room which made it a little hot.
very good restaurant, nice pool and balcony area, bathrooms are very clean,
The hotel is very clean and organized. There is a continental breakfast included in the rate and it is okay. It is a good option to spend the night inside de park.
No wifi, even in the lobby. It is a problem because there is no mobile signal in the park. So, you are not able to access internet any way. No private bathrooms. Although the localization is convenient, in my opinion the rate is too expensive for a hotel that neither offer wifi nor a private bathroom.
Warm welcome. Wonderful building that makes you feel relaxed instantly. Sitting on the veranda sipping cocktails watching the sunset was a wonderful experience. Restaurant was very good with excellent service and a good choice of well presented food. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
Nothing. You have to be prepared to wait for shower but that is made clear at the time you book.
Charming hotel in an amazing location.
Tranquillity and return to a calmer age. Delicious food. We had charming front room of Little White , former hotel manager's family home, so could sit on front verandha as if owned the place!
Knew we had shared bathroom but didn't think it would be across the lawn! However they were kept very clean and added to old school charm- literally like being back at school! Three rooms in Little White were only divided by the original internal doors so no secrets between neighbours.
nice quaint old hotel and a good location,
having to walk outside to a shared bathroom, no air conditioning
The location is ideal near Mariposa Grove in a quiet part of the park. It was wonderful to relax on the huge porch with a cocktail after a day of hiking. I like the age and history of the hotel.
the shared bath facilites were as good as possible. This is a place to enjoy the hotels beautiful common spaces, not to hang out in your room.
