Very friendly and efficient service and support for a first timer to Chicago. Assisted with Transport and sightseeing options and some of the best hospitality experienced on my US travels
Innkeepers were very accommodating, helpful, friendly and efficient. The inn is a wonderful old home and tastefully decorated.
What a wonderful experience in Chicago...this is my first time to visit Chicago, Mell picked up me from airport,we went to market to buy fresh fruit for breakfast preparation...Mell's cooking is amazing... Welcome inn most like a family house not hotel. I really enjoy the breakfast with other guests.
Location is a little bit far away from downtown.
The staff was so friendly that I felt like being at home!
The location was good for visiting the University of Chicago but not very convenient if someone wanted to go often to downtown Chicago .
It's close to the McCormick Convention Center. The B&B provided complimentary transportation everyday. The breakfast that Mell made was good and the hosts are helpful for giving suggestions for sightseeing and shopping.
There was no real restaurants nearby within walking distance and no grocery stores.
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality. We had a great visit with owners and other guests. Breakfast was delicious. We have shared our experience with many friends and family
Mell and Angie were amazing! Mell welcomed us, settled us in, and even dropped us off where we needed to go several times. We saw so much more of Chicago because of him, and the breakfast and company were amazing, too. We'd go back in a heartbeat! (The beautiful building was a huge highlight, but paled in comparison to the rest of the package...what a great experience!)
The neighborhood was a little intimidating. We didn't have a single problem, but it definitely took us back a bit. Still, ease of commuting to the heart of the city outweighed any concerns about the neighborhood.
Mel and Angie were wonderful hosts. The breakfast each morning was good. They were helpful with directions and the history of the home and surrounding areas. Sinbad was adorable. The room and bathroom were big and beautiful.
The location was in a not great part of town with a lot of trash just thrown about on the ground. People were actually using the street instead of side walks. And to get the bus or train required a walk of a few blocks either way. Our room was very large which meant rather chilly also and the furnace was on a schedule so we had only one space heater and it was pretty cool in the room at times.
Staff was extremely accommodating. The Innkeeper graciously provided travel daily to our convention center. He also arranged his schedule to pick us up at the airport and drop us off at the airport. Mell was great at suggesting sites to visit and places to go. He introduced us to a great jazz bar, which he provided transportation to and from - and even enjoyed the music with us. The breakfasts were amazing! Homemade pancakes, waffles, eggs, with cereal, fresh fruit, and coffee or tea ready for our early mornings. During our stay the Innkeepers even accommodated for a vegetarian diet, a vegan diet, and a lactose free diet - I couldn't believe how prepared they were for us! I absolutely loved the cozy feel of this bed and breakfast and would definitely stay at Welcome Inn again.
The Proprietor, his wife and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. No request was too hard and many times went above an beyond. The place was very safe and convenient to Conference Centre. Meeting other guests and socialising with them was great.
Host provided transport to/from museums -- and to a downtown bike rental shop. Hosts have made much effort to modernize a 100-year old town home, to include an excellent collection of African tribal artifacts and contemporary African American art. Breakfasts were particularly enjoyable, usually involving 1-2 hours discussions with other guests and the host, something that we greatly value during trips around the US and in other countries.
Our initial impression of the neighborhood was disconcerting -- with many boarded up properties -- not an area we would have walked around at night. However, the pros far out weighed the cons, and we were happy with our stay.
The ambience of this amazing home and the loving way it has been restored; the caring, friendly owners, the very special breakfasts. Chicago is a very special city. The architecture is very interesting. The city centre is unique - it is adjacent to a beautiful beach that extends for miles and is easily accessed. The Millenium Park is also central - a large park with many activities - the large auditorium, the venue for free classical concerts throughout the summer is exceptional. The museums of natural history and science & technology, and the Art Institute are all very large and full of interest with many varied exhibitions. The Shedd Aquarium is outstanding. City Passes for these & other attractions can be bought in advance. This is cheaper, also includes most exhibitions ... but also fast tracks one into these venues which usually have long waiting times to enter. We were so glad we purchased these. The Botanic Gardens are also outstanding and worthy of a full day - however are in the north of Chicago. There are also many river trips and water taxis. I recommend an early evening river trip - start out just before dusk & then see the city light up. Bikes can be rented very reasonably. Also bus passes for hop on hop off journeys are also reasonably priced.
It is an expensive city. As in rest of US the prices shown don't usually include taxes.
