We stayed in the Nat King Cole room and I was surprised by the size of the room, and the bathroom was a whole other room in itself. It was gorgeous and comfortable. I instantly felt at home. Mell and Angie were amazing, welcoming and helpful. They made us feel like we were staying at home.
The area was a little scary but the B&B is a great contrast and Mell and Angie were wonderful hosts. The B&B was well secured, gated and locked. I hope this area will start to grow and become a great visiting spot of Chicago! We were a short ride downtown and to anywhere we wanted to visit!
Welcome Inn Manor at Chicago's Southside in Bronzeville has even a better furnishings as the Drake at Chicago's Northside, in addition with a lot of African American art objects. Every room has its own character. Mell and Angie, the innkeepers are great, open-hearted, lovely with a lot of humor. Great soul food every morning, which is not so boring as the food in the hotels like Hyatt or Hilton.....If wanted, you could get a personal shuttle to the the Convention Center every morning, and to the Blues Clubs at night. In summary, you feel more than at home! Michael, Bern Switzerland
Incredible experience!! I have traveled all over the world and this lodging experience was phenomenal. The art, the hospitality, the lovely yummy full breakfast --- quite a wonderful stay!!
Thanks to everyone at the Welcome Inn Manor, our stay there was beautiful!!
The bed and breakfast was warm & inviting, the style & feel of the place was very relaxing. The music was relaxing. The staff was excellent. Helpful & kind & very giving! I would stay there again for sure. I have told many people about it! Loved it!
A little further off the beaten path.
the building , the amenities, the breakfasts - everything superceded my expectations. Mell and Angie were very welcoming, making you very comfortable.
the location could be perceived as somewhat sketchy.
The owners and staff were fun, friendly and eager to care for our group - making us feel at home. We instantly felt "part of the household".
Delicious breakfast, comfortable bed, homelike facility, and hospitability host.
the owner is wonderful. room space is very wide.
too far to downtown. there's no front system.
drop off service, wine, location.
Would have liked a dresser since we were there for almost 10 days.
Great innkeeper, felt very well taken care of (special story, ask him about Johannes´ stay at the Welcome Inn). Free shuttle service almost every day into town, as long as you are flexible +/- 30mins, great service of Mell. Unique atmosphere and design in the building, definitely something you don´t come across very often. The property is close to several public transfer options, so its even comfy if you are an international guest with no rental car.
some mionor issues with the wifi coverage using Apple devices.
Beautiful house, friendly host's, superb breakfast, made to feel very welcome, was like staying with friends
Owner-Mell & Angie & staff excellent, accommodating very friendly, helpful, interesting & inviting enjoyed our stay beautifully restored interesting art work excellent service (pick up & drop off at airport, great service) excellent breakfast great & helpful local information regarding restaurants and sight-seeing (went to two of Mell's suggested restaurants-both were excellent)
Offer snacks (cheese & crackers) offer daily room service
Very friendly and efficient service and support for a first timer to Chicago. Assisted with Transport and sightseeing options and some of the best hospitality experienced on my US travels
Innkeepers were very accommodating, helpful, friendly and efficient. The inn is a wonderful old home and tastefully decorated.
What a wonderful experience in Chicago...this is my first time to visit Chicago, Mell picked up me from airport,we went to market to buy fresh fruit for breakfast preparation...Mell's cooking is amazing... Welcome inn most like a family house not hotel. I really enjoy the breakfast with other guests.
Location is a little bit far away from downtown.
The staff was so friendly that I felt like being at home!
The location was good for visiting the University of Chicago but not very convenient if someone wanted to go often to downtown Chicago .
It's close to the McCormick Convention Center. The B&B provided complimentary transportation everyday. The breakfast that Mell made was good and the hosts are helpful for giving suggestions for sightseeing and shopping.
There was no real restaurants nearby within walking distance and no grocery stores.
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality. We had a great visit with owners and other guests. Breakfast was delicious. We have shared our experience with many friends and family
Mell and Angie were amazing! Mell welcomed us, settled us in, and even dropped us off where we needed to go several times. We saw so much more of Chicago because of him, and the breakfast and company were amazing, too. We'd go back in a heartbeat! (The beautiful building was a huge highlight, but paled in comparison to the rest of the package...what a great experience!)
The neighborhood was a little intimidating. We didn't have a single problem, but it definitely took us back a bit. Still, ease of commuting to the heart of the city outweighed any concerns about the neighborhood.
Mel and Angie were wonderful hosts. The breakfast each morning was good. They were helpful with directions and the history of the home and surrounding areas. Sinbad was adorable. The room and bathroom were big and beautiful.
The location was in a not great part of town with a lot of trash just thrown about on the ground. People were actually using the street instead of side walks. And to get the bus or train required a walk of a few blocks either way. Our room was very large which meant rather chilly also and the furnace was on a schedule so we had only one space heater and it was pretty cool in the room at times.
