full service chain with full staff in the front desk. reasonable. newly renovated rooms. clean. spacious.
many people in the elevator due to conventions going on.
The main plus for me was that it was the location for the conference that I was attending and therefore I had no distance to go to attend the conference. There were also plenty of restaurants around the hotel, so plenty of choice for dinner in the evening.
Hard to sleep at night due to traffic noise. Access to the fitness room was very odd; had to go all the way to the lobby and then take a flight of stairs to the first floor. It was also evident that some of the fitness equipment was not regularly serviced (ellipticals). They either weren't working at all or behaved erratically. Overall, for the price paid, there was nothing that wowed me.
The staff was really friendly!
Wi-Fi was extra.
We were able to take the airport shuttle from JFK to the beautifully renovated Grand Central Terminal with one clearly marked under-ground transfer, cost $7.50 each! Just a two block walk to the hotel. The bed was great, and we have a new Tempurpedic at home! No need to ask for extra pillows, they were there. A restaurant on the property, complementary coffee maker in the room, and I got the amenities I asked for at booking; I wanted high, we were on the 39th floor! I requested a view of the Crysler building, we got that and the Empire State Building too! The windows opened a few inches to allow circulation of fresh air, though the air conditioner was more than adequate in getting us through an unusually warm summer spell. The staff was helpful in their suggestions re: eateries, directions to the iconic sites. They graciously held our bags for us as we had a late flight out and one more day to enjoy the city. Housekeeping was respectful of our West coast circadian rhythms and our request for only caffeine laden coffee, extra cream and sugar. We loved the extra large shower stall, the rain shower heads and the wands for a consentrated spray for rinsing your hair or hard to reach places. Cozy, microfiber robes were perfect for lounging on the bed watching free premium channels or current movies to buy. The down- like comforter from the closet made the transition from the hot shower to the cooled room. We didn't feel the need to use the available work-out equipment after having walked to Times Square, 5th Ave and all it offers, and exploring the side streets for a pub or deli. Even late at night, there were policemen everywhere, we felt safe. Vendors set up on the streets around tourist destinations at night, but no one ever approached us attempting to sell knock off bags or watches. The city itself is so much cleaner than it was when I was a young New England resident and visited often.
I thought the on site restaurant was overpriced and had a very limited menu. I prefer a bathtub, though it was a great shower! The prices for the foodstuff stocked in the fridge was outrageous. Though it was finally provided gratis, we were told wi-fi was $15.00/day extra. I upgraded to a corner room, I didn't realize I'd be losing the fridge and micro-wave. That was missed. I would have enjoyed a sauna,...steam, dry, whirlpool. Without the bathtub, my arthritis acts up from the loss of the heat and subsequent increase in blood flow. A yoghurt, banana, or bagel in the morning wouldn't have broken the bank on you guys! Especially without the ability to keep juice, creme cheese, milk or cereal in the room. Or even heat up last night's leftovers.
The bath tub clogged up all the time during my stay. I supposed housekeeping should know by cleaning the room everyday!!
Very Clean and Comfortable Room
Check in princess and hostess
Spent just one night in NY (was attending a concert at Times Square). The Westin was excellently located, about a 5-7 minute cab ride to Times Square. The hotel was great: clean, professional staff, nice ambience, and, very importantly, the deal/special that I had was excellent value for my money.
there wasn't anything that I didn't like.
Hotel location is very good.
We were very disappointed with reception staff and their services. They were very incompetent and by there mistake one of friends had a credit card blocked for all the stay in US ( while somebody else was paying all the expenses and already covered with their card). Free Wi-Fi only available in hotel lobby.
Beds and room was spacious for New York. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable- gave great restaurant recommendations!
Bathroom - bathtub spout needed to be fixed and there was mould in the bathroom tile grout and light switches. Towels were worn and not fluffy as I have experienced in other Westin hotels.
Convenient to Grand Central
Air conditioner did not work well
Location near toGrand Central made this an easy option for getting around Manhattan
In house dining on ground floor was expensive and not good value
Location very close to a number of transportation options and sightseeing.
Prices are really high for the accommodations
I loved the accessibility to the trains/grand central station. 10 minute walk to 5th Avenue and Times Sq. Rooms were spacious and beds were heavenly as well.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful, rooms were spacious enough and up to a good standard, amazing location
Rooms were not cleaned daily to 4 star hotel standard ,towels were grey and hard and shower pressure was not great
Great location near Grand Central Station.
You have to pay for wifi in your room which is heard of in UK and Ireland. There was wifi in lobby but it was so unreliable that it was impossible to connect. We had stayed the previous in the Westin Savannah and wifi was available free in all the rooms there. This would put me off staying there again.
Friendly staff, efficient response to requests. Generally well maintained hotel
limited facilities within the hotel, but this is Manhattan and every thing is close by. The shower recess has mould in the corner and It would have good if it was cleaned well.
Room was high yet noise of the street was heard, hardly can sleep, NY is a very load state! The check in was very bad, staff generally were very rude
All of the facilities es we're excel ant Position of hotel enable easy assess to New York attractions restaurants etc
Provision of milk on hospitality tray as my wife prefers tea as unable to drink coffee request was made but not supplied just a little thing G
The restaurant staff were excellent, prompt and courteous.
Check in staff was nice at first glance but then when push came to shove they didn't care. Wanted a room on the same floor as my brother promised by one but the other one said I don't know what she said this is the one you can have !!!!!!!!! My bathroom had dirt on the walls and holes in the bathtub tile. not a great indicator of upkeep and quality!!!! Their was some show filming and you couldn't use the doors when you needed to.
Nothing - terrible experience!
I arrive at the hotel at 2pm for the 3pm check-in, but they did not have room available till 8.15pm, given me a coffee voucher. After a long day of work and travel from Armonk, I was looking forward to relaxing at my room. it was heavy rain and couldn't do much outside. After I checked in at 8.15, I thought I will have a early night sleep and went to bed around 10, but it was the heavy noice level from neighbouring room was going till 3 in the morning - I did not sleep at all, woke up and checked out at 4am. I was better off having a nap at the airport! Terrible experience. There were many people complained at 4am about the noise level too. As a SPG member I will write directly to Westin itself. It was a terrible experience!!!
Everything, location, staff, cleanliness.would highly recommend,2nd time there and will be back.
We waited way too long to check in and about 20 mins to check out. Hardly anyone was working the reservation desk. Also, the shower was pink with mildew and fungus on the ceiling. Other then this the staff was very accommodating and the room itself was fine and a good bargain for the price and for being a NYC hotel.
This was my first time in New York. The Westin was well placed for visiting. The hotel has been renovated and the room was spacious and comfortable. Would certainly go back.
