this place is dumpy...needs a total and complete facelift.
water flow in shower was very poor room was dirty - needed to be hoovered other guests reported seeing mice in the corridor some lights in the room did not work bathroom was very small and the fan was automatic and very noisy. if I had not been very busy and spending a very limited amount of time in the room, I would have changed hotels.
Hotel and rooms were beautiful with so much charm and history. Location was perfect and the concierge was super helpful.
Beds were too soft. No customer service once you got into your rooms. Wifi was super slow. Housekeeping deteriorated as the week progress and bathroom started smelling like urine.
bed very comfortable bar & restaurant when available Starbucks in lobby
no washcloths---really!? bar closes WAY too early....restaurant also, considering they cater to the European & So. American clientele
No dresser in room
Was very clean and located where we wanted to be. Staff was very friendly and helped us out finding where the parking was and where to check in. Was very happy that there was a Starbucks located in the lobby :)
Could hear activity outside of our door, elevator door dings and other guest type noises in the hallway, wasn't a lot of guest traffic but still a bit of noise could be heard.
Nicest smile you can from the front desk staff. Great location, extremely convenient, BART station just at the entrance of hotel. Close to city center.
Not much. Maybe too many homeless people at the train station and around that area.
I like staying at this hotel because it isn't part of a chain, and the stay feels like a throwback to the Lucy & Desi days. Historic architecture and charm abound. And the doorman has a really cool hat!
The wifi signal was nearly non-existent on this stay - there was a big techie conference in town, so I suspect that had a negative effect.
Centrality located , convenient coffee shop
The price, the location and I feel the staff was fine, really didn't need to deal with them that much.
We had a roll-a-way bed brought in for one of the adults. It was horrible, the mattress was so poor that the springs pushed on you. I think we could have used at least one more soap in the bathroom.
The decor is old and beautiful with all the wood, marble, Tiffany, etc. Rooms are cozy. Staff friendly. Prices are reasonable for the city.
I requested non-fragrance laundry but the bath towels had strong perfume. Outlets in room were worn out, needs a charging station on a counter.
If you like old hotels from long ago, this was a unique experience. What I would think San Francisco looked like back in the day. No frills, small bathrooms, big closet, comfortable beds, nice view of court house. Right in Market st area.
Water pressure in shower very low. No appetizers in bar till 5pm..so they gave us bread.
They did not have my reservation from Booking.com
The location of the hotel room was very unsettling. I felt secluded and as if I were in jail.
The main hall
everything else. This place is a trap, expansive beyond reality and really cheap if you look closer. Don't never go to this place there is nothing valuable here.
cleanliness comfort furnishings
slow elevators very loud, not noise proof old toilet covers
Location for downtown and transport links. The elegance of a bygone era. Starbucks just off the main entrance.
Wifi was good and bar staff friendly
In summary this hotel is dated plaster peeling of the ceiling and low standard of bath fittings and is in a neighbourhood which is so full of homeless people venturing out in the evening makes you feel very uneasy. The room which was at the rear of the hotel was very noisy with us woken at 4 in the morning by garbage collections. Like many San Francisco bars/restauraunts everything is closed by 10pm so avoid if looking for that romantic stay. I have stayed in hotels all over the world with work and this city/hotel combo is one of the worst.
tub back up after wife took a shower so i couldn't take a shower . $200.00 a day for the room it was very very small .7ft x10ft .online i was told $35.00 a day for parking . i had to pay $35.00+$4.90 tax and for oversize truck had to pay another $35.00 +$4.90 tax again for 1 day parking
This was my second stay here. I love the history and vibe the building has. Located to good spots in the civic center and not too bad of a walk to union square. I shall be back again soon.
The "queen" bed is more like a full but they say it's a "boutique" room and I guess that means a full. Shower pressure is low but nothing really too bad to not make me want to stay here again.
housekeeping staff knocked on the door at 7:00 am...
The Lobby and check in the woman was kind and friendly. everything else- minuspoints.
Rooms much too small-the bath tiny and very old. one of our booked 4 rooms-the toilett was not flushing...all rooms: noisy the whole night- outside some machine....may be from kitchen or ac from ohter rooms? Reception: the two old men have been not helpfull and you had the feeling to disturb them......everything so old and running down-sorry to say for that price surely you find better hotels.
Wow! I was a little nervous after reading some reviews but with the place, you have nothing to worry about. We loved our stay at Hotel Whitcomb. Burney at the front desk did everything to make sure our night was perfect and was so helpful with all of our questions. The Bell Hop staff were personal and great as well. It's a beautiful, classified 'Top Historic Hotel' that is so close to a BART station. Getting anywhere is so easy because of this. And there's a Starbucks in the lobby which makes breakfast and coffee in the am a breeze. Enjoy your stay here! We did and we'll certainly be back!
The guy at Guest Services was a little snarky...
Hotel was nice, and staff were great.
Non-stop sirens, drugs, fights, shootings, etc. The city is worse than it has been and this is in the heart of it.
