If you like old hotels from long ago, this was a unique experience. What I would think San Francisco looked like back in the day. No frills, small bathrooms, big closet, comfortable beds, nice view of court house. Right in Market st area.
Water pressure in shower very low. No appetizers in bar till 5pm..so they gave us bread.
They did not have my reservation from Booking.com
The location of the hotel room was very unsettling. I felt secluded and as if I were in jail.
The main hall
everything else. This place is a trap, expansive beyond reality and really cheap if you look closer. Don't never go to this place there is nothing valuable here.
cleanliness comfort furnishings
slow elevators very loud, not noise proof old toilet covers
Location for downtown and transport links. The elegance of a bygone era. Starbucks just off the main entrance.
Wifi was good and bar staff friendly
In summary this hotel is dated plaster peeling of the ceiling and low standard of bath fittings and is in a neighbourhood which is so full of homeless people venturing out in the evening makes you feel very uneasy. The room which was at the rear of the hotel was very noisy with us woken at 4 in the morning by garbage collections. Like many San Francisco bars/restauraunts everything is closed by 10pm so avoid if looking for that romantic stay. I have stayed in hotels all over the world with work and this city/hotel combo is one of the worst.
tub back up after wife took a shower so i couldn't take a shower . $200.00 a day for the room it was very very small .7ft x10ft .online i was told $35.00 a day for parking . i had to pay $35.00+$4.90 tax and for oversize truck had to pay another $35.00 +$4.90 tax again for 1 day parking
This was my second stay here. I love the history and vibe the building has. Located to good spots in the civic center and not too bad of a walk to union square. I shall be back again soon.
The "queen" bed is more like a full but they say it's a "boutique" room and I guess that means a full. Shower pressure is low but nothing really too bad to not make me want to stay here again.
housekeeping staff knocked on the door at 7:00 am...
The Lobby and check in the woman was kind and friendly. everything else- minuspoints.
Rooms much too small-the bath tiny and very old. one of our booked 4 rooms-the toilett was not flushing...all rooms: noisy the whole night- outside some machine....may be from kitchen or ac from ohter rooms? Reception: the two old men have been not helpfull and you had the feeling to disturb them......everything so old and running down-sorry to say for that price surely you find better hotels.
Wow! I was a little nervous after reading some reviews but with the place, you have nothing to worry about. We loved our stay at Hotel Whitcomb. Burney at the front desk did everything to make sure our night was perfect and was so helpful with all of our questions. The Bell Hop staff were personal and great as well. It's a beautiful, classified 'Top Historic Hotel' that is so close to a BART station. Getting anywhere is so easy because of this. And there's a Starbucks in the lobby which makes breakfast and coffee in the am a breeze. Enjoy your stay here! We did and we'll certainly be back!
The guy at Guest Services was a little snarky...
Hotel was nice, and staff were great.
Non-stop sirens, drugs, fights, shootings, etc. The city is worse than it has been and this is in the heart of it.
Staff pleasant and helpful.
Unfortunately would not stay there again as very intimidating with the homeless people of San Francisco and a bit too fa from everything. Daughter found hotel scarey very dark and dismal.
Character of the building Comfortable enough Walkable distance to shops on Market Street and Union Square (about 15 mins) The lady on concierge was friendly and helpful with suggestions
The surrounding area is not great at night Shower was terrible Didn't find the front desk staff particularly friendly
Nice having Starbucks just off the lobby. Glad there was security at night checking if you were staying at the hotel. This was a grand hotel years ago and it has been kept up.
A lot of homeless across the street and not a place to be walking.
The location of the hotel was awful. I did not feel safe going out alone after 7, with all the homeless and addicts that were on the street. The hotel itself is really really old, so all the facilities were old and outdated. Overall, I don't recommend this hotel for the price that they charge.
Nice historic hotel in the sketchier part on market st. The location is great. Bart is directly on front and catch the F line in front of the hotel too to take it to major shopping (2 minute ride) and the cable car line. This hotel is more appropriate for adults. Starbucks convenient in the lobby. Friendly staff.
Very very very tiny bathroom but its a historic hotel so ifs part of the charm. If you are a big guy ask for a r
The historical ambiance Comfortable bed large closet
If you need a refrigerator it's $20 a day extra. There is no little hot water / coffee maker in the room. If you want coffee, you have to get dressed and wait in line at the Starbucks downstairs IF it is open. I waited 15 minutes for coffee. Quite colorful diverse neighborhood.
The staff were lovely. Very happy to help when we wanted to change rooms when we first arrived and then very accommodating when we wanted to extend our stay and keep our room. Burnley at the front desk was a star! Very helpful and lovely.
The area. We felt safe as we both come from London we know how to keep our heads down. But if your not street wise you might feel a little worried. People on the streets are harmless but it does make you extra careful. Not the hotels fault! The wifi was temperamental.
This hotel is on the street car route for the F line. It's also at a Bart and Muni station so ease of access to public transit is fantastic.
The wireless was strong and connected without issue. However, with only 1.5mb speeds, this Internet access operates slower than dialup with everyone in the hotel using it. My wife and I were forced to tether our devices to my phone for the week that we stayed Hotel Whitcomb.
The fact that I could literally walk out the door and get on the Bart. Starbucks inside the hotel.
It is not in the best neighborhood. Lots of homeless people.
This historic hotel, carefully maintained, with large bedrooms and elegant lobby and hallways, is a gem. For not much less we could have stayed at a boring chain airport hotel so this beautiful hotel is good value for San Francisco. Perfect location for taking the F trolley anywhere.
Not enough light in the bathroom
Purchased a king was given a king
Customer service is poor and rude
Location was good, staff very friendly. Small workout room and large ornate lobby made it nice. Great cafe right across the street (Sam's) we ate for nearly all our meals. We had a clogged toilet that the maintenance man cleared and cleaned almost immediately.
Beds were strangely bowed and gave me a bit of a backache. Some of the concierges abandoned post at strange times, some ill-informed. Lobby and mezanine bathrooms strangely not available to guests. Coffee in rooms or lobby would have been nice, except there was a Starbucks that shared a lobby (perpetually long lines).
