Liked it all! I think hostels are the way to go.
Price was great. Staff very nice. Relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful setting!!
Parking a little difficult mainly because guests failed to fully pull into the parking stalls.
old style plantation with lots of history AND the super friendly & helpful staff
one cockaroach in da bathroom trash can
Quiet, natural setting. Appeals to those on a budget.
Staff realy kind and helpfull. I recpmamd this place.
My husband and I booked this on our way into Hilo. We liked it enough to book again on our way out. There are no fancy frills, but we were able to use the internet, do our laundry, have free breakfast and stay in a private room for a very reasonable price.
Price was very economical compare to another B&B we stayed in in Hilo. Breakfast supplied was very good, no shortage of food or quality. Fresh fruit, toast, oatmeal, banana bread, condiments, coffee, tea and water. Staff very friendly. Located close to the original city downtown core, restaurants and shops. Grounds had some interesting plants. Building orignially build in the early 1900s as a sugar factory worker residence. Lots of pictures and history. Earplugs supplied for croaking frogs in evening, although they never bothered us. We reserved "King Suite" and were upgraded to Ocean View suite. This room had two queen size beds, a small sitting room, fridge, micorwave, tv and bathroom with shower. View was decent of the harbour. Property serves as hotel, hostel and campgound and in addition to the B&B breakfast and common area has an outside covered common kitchen for use by guests and a covered outside exercise gym.
Place was very run down, rooms and beds good size, but very old and little current maintenance. Grounds generally okay, but untidy showing lack of maintenance. Ocean view room is on the end of the building overlooking ocean but also highway (Hawaiian Belt Hwy) and was quite noisy. Website pictures need updating. Common kitchen and gym didn't look too clean or servicable.
Hot water takes forever to heat up Unhygenic. Shower curtain covered in mold. Taps drip constantly. Totally overpriced. Rusty gym equipment left in weather
The "main" hotel seems quite nice, though very basic. We did not actually look in to any of the main rooms. Breakfast is adequate, and always features fresh papaya. Staff is friendly.
The "hostel" portion is an ultimately depressing shed in a gully by a stream. It is identical to living in an old basement. The stream and lack of windows produces a problem with mosquitoes. However, for the extreme budget traveller, there is a stove and fridge and TV and sitting area of sorts. "Permanent" residents of the basement usually are working in the hotel, and are friendly.
The family that runs the Wild Ginger Inn and their staff, are extremely helpful and easy going. The place has history in every piece of wood that keeps it standing, and The Makai Room (suite) was a stylish and perfect place to stay with my two kids and wife. Thank you Wild Ginger!
Needs update. Dodgy guests. Poor ''free' breakfast
This place gives you the feeling you are sleeping in a jungle somewhere in South America! I thought it was very cool and for the lighter sleepers they provide ear plugs. If you aren't very picky this place is great! It's affordable and there are restaurants and bars right down the road. Totally recommend this place.
I wouldn't bother waking up for breakfast of you want to sleep in. It is free so I wasn't expecting much but when we got there which was still pretty early there were only the ends of the bread loafs left :/ they also have cakes and coffee/tea but there were about a thousand ants by the coffee station which was a little off putting. The floor in our room was really sticky because it had been painted which was a little weird but we didn't really care about that.
Location was good, but this is basic one star, maybe two star accom, Staff were pleasant and garden nice. Also has a laundry,
I think it was expensive for what it is, it should be a little cheaper.
Staff was courteous and accomodating
It was everything I needed
Staff Atmosphere Setting Breakfast
Small rooms Uncomfortable small beds
Staff were fantastic - very friendly and accomodating Staff gave me a ride to the airport for cheaper than the taxi would have cost. Price was amazing. Free breakfast had enough choice to not get boring after a couple of days.
My room was infested with what I can only describe as tiny-ants-with-wings. I would have tried to switch rooms if I've known when I arrived. Sadly it wasn't until the next morning when I picked up by bag, which happened to be place on top of a nest, before I realised. I spent a while getting the ants out of my bag, clothes and belongings. Not fun. No air-con does affect things. With the celing fan on (one-setting only) I was too cold. Without it I was too hot. No wifi in the rooms, and the wifi in the lobby kept blocking my laptop for 'p2p file sharing' when I was trying to watch YouTube for some reason.
Great staf, wish all the best. Like it very much, great place!
We loved it all!!! especially rice pudding for breakfast!!!
I loved the location and the relaxed vibe of the place
Its a bit noisy with people walking about upstairs. It didn't bother me too much but I can imagine other travellers not being to impressed by that
The staff was great, the "feel" of the place was nice.
The noise. I like the frogs, but there were birds roosting nearby and there was noise all night. There was no hot water. This is an old structure and the bed was very uncomfortable.
Pillow needed to be replaced. Reaked strongly of body odor. Mattresses needed to be wrapped in protector. Mold growing on the mattresses.
Can't sleep with the coqui calling from late evening up to next morning. No one clean up my room and change of the towel in my three nights stay. The room is not so clean.
breakfast was great the ambience friendly and helpful staff
Staff was friendly but smiles don't fix it.
In need of serious repairs in all areas! Maintenance personnel were unable or unwilling to address affective repairs. Plumbing issues all week, all 7 days. Only hot water in shower and toilet. Sink stopped up all week, not fixed. I could go on & on, just don't book it.
The breakfast was excellent! Real Aloha spirit. Loved your banana bread.
