The bed was comfortable
The room was very small with a huge bed so basically the bed took up the whole room. Parking was awful - small and very tight parking. The bathroom is tiny - hard to maneuver in and out of. Overall not too pleasant. The owner is trying but the office door was locked about 8pm and they don't answer. They did answer their phone though to address concerns we had.
New owner. Recently remodeled rooms and bathrooms. Outstanding beds. Very clean. Porch with chairs and tables. Outside covered patio with lots of tables/chairs.
Everything was wonderful. We arrived late due to car trouble, but when we arrived the office was open and everything was ready. He went out of his way to ensure my son and I had a great time and thanks to his maps and guidance we maximized our time there, with a relaxed pace. My son has special needs and due to all of the help I got in regards to what was available and the best route we both had a wonderful time with no complications or issues. We will definitely return to the Grand Motel for all of our vacations and breaks up North. I had some health issues arise and had to stay on an extra day. Everything was handled efficiently to accommodate us during our entire stay. We have already recommended this hotel to family, friends, and co-workers heading into Williams within the next 6 months.
A nice restoration of a classic Route 66 motel, with a terrific owner/proprietor who provides the perfect complement to the overall experience. Very highly recommended!
Good location on Route 66 Comfortable bed
Almost everything! Not sure how this place has good reviews...looks like the owner might have written them himself...the place is in a time warp with the most basic of facilities. Not sure where the 'balcony with mountain view' comes into it. All ground floor rooms with either views of the main road or other rooms! Charging $60+ for this place is a disgrace. My dog has better facilities.
An old fashioned motel, with old fashioned excellent service. Richard, the new owner is passionate about the place. Please do not let the exterior influence your judgement. He is doing the place up, starting with the rooms. They are clean and comfortable and are of a good standard. Our host did every ting he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We booked for 2 nights, stayed 5.Say on more !
Very helpful owner Excellent wifi Cleanliness
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Very helpful hints about places to eat. He was very enthusiastic about the updates and upgrades they were making, as well as how they were trying to bring back to much of the original which I am thoroughly pleased about. I've grown tired of the cookie cutter stick built hotels with no character. Morning coffee sitting out on the porch was especially delightful
Good location. The guy that runs the place is very nice and very helpful.
The wifi was nit the best and the was a little small
It was quite. Owner was very Pleasant.
The (new) owner of the motel was very helpful. He took his time while we were checking in and gave good advice regarding restaurants etc. The rooms are renovated and the bed in our room was huge (King bed), also the bedlinnen was nice. The bathroom is a bit small, but very clean and comfortable. I didn't expect Williams to be such a nice small town at the Route 66 with a couple of nice restaurants and bars. It was really cool to stay in such a newly renovated motel which has so much history!
Owner and the old feeling. Rooms were nice and clean with pretty much new everything. Fresh paint, too. TV and WIFI worked fine.
Not much, really. They only had one travel crib at the time, so if you need two be sure to check with them in advance!
Owner, Rich, was exceptionally welcoming and accommodating. We felt at home immediately. This is a 1939 motel, naturally updated (and Rich is still working on lots more improvements), but retaining the historical charm of yesteryear. The rooms are small but perfectly formed, and a great place to come back to after a day trekking in the Grand Canyon. Our room was basic but characterful and very clean. So tranquil with white washed walls and wooden laminate floors (none of this nasty, dirty carpet you'll find in even 5-star American hotels). The beds are (new) and super comfortable - with some anti-lice covering - so you won't wake up itching from the previous guests body-pets! Complete opposite of the over-decorated, over-coloured, over-done, busy hotel rooms of Las Vegas. On warm evenings you can sit/eat outside in a covered pavilion and watch the world go by. There is an uncomplicated, relaxed, peaceful aura that hangs in the air at this motel. Opposite the motel you'll find a launderette/laundromat - which is extremely handy. The small town of Williams has plenty of quaint cafes, restaurants and tourist shops selling everything with Route 66 on it. There's also a large Safeway supermarket 5mins drive from the motel. We had a car, but if you don't have one and need to get up to the Grand Canyon, there's a direct train from Williams all the way to the South Rim (close to the Bright Angel trail head). You'll be there in an hour or so - which is similar to driving. It was so nice here that after we left, travelled around a bit, we came back for 2 more nights!
The Manager was very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. Was great to have 2 rooms next to each other. He was helpful in all info. Wish him luck for his renovations.
There was a bad odour in the rooms. Unsure what it was. One bed had no warm blankets.
Facilities not up-to-date, not enough hot water, limited breakfast quantity and selections
I made the reservation online, and didn't expect to get in until late. The hotel owner Rich called me to ask when I would be arriving and since the office closed at 10 PM he would wait for me to arrive hours later. He even provided me with his cell phone number just in case. Minutes from the Grand Canyon Railway!
This bed was the best one I have had in two weeks, when I left home. The host was friendly and helpful. He is trying to fill the gap between motel and hotel. We did not stay for breakfast These folks are living and working the American Dream. They are living on the property and bringing the rooms upto modern standards. Kind of like "This Old House" in a motel.
AC unit rattled loudly when compressor went on/off. Needed an extension cord and no lamp in one of the rooms. Would like to see how they are doing in two years.
The Grand Motel in Williams is a wonderful spot to stay and reminisce about the "Old Route 66" days........on this strip you feel like you're back in the 60'S. The owners/managers were friendly and very helpful in directing us on our outings. The locations is great! Room was comfortable and clean. Continental breakfast was just enough to get us going in the morning. The Owners have great vision for the future of motel....showed us plans for upgrades, and we plan to stop by again on our next trip out west.
Hooks in bathroom needed for towels/clothing. Nightstand on only one side of the bed.
The room was all ready down to the extra bed we had requested. The coffee was strong and breakfast above average. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed getting to know other travelers.
owner is a very nice guy, helps with everything, still new to the motel and trying hard to renovate and improve
A good motel in development. Very very very friendly host. Clean. Okay breakfast. Outside terrace is very nice. Located in a very characteristic Route 66 town.
Wifi did not work. Shower did not work properly. Motel requires updating and a few facilities (like a hair dryer).
nice and motivated owner (it seems to be a one man business). If you like a familiar atmosphere go there, but do not expect service and comfort of bigger motels or enterprises.
Really small bathroom. New beds, but everything else is old. No desk or chair in the room. No hair dryer in the room. Old fashioned tv. Breakfast is small and not before 7.30.
Breakfast was better then usual (I have seen about 12 motel on Route 66).
Wifi was very poor. Room little and style of the original route 66 (so don't expect modern or a modern hotel).
Really friendly staff. Accommodating. Easy access to the Grand Canyon.
The first motel (since 1939) in the historical town Williams. The new owner of the motel is a nice guy.
