Modern, friendly city. Generally clean with lovely green spaces. Not a lot of historical interest so better for short visits.
Some areas a bit seedy & too much emphasis on it being a great place for music - most of what we heard was poor ! We found food & drinks surprisingly expensive.

Austin is a great town.
Austin is a great town. There are tons of great restaurants, shops, parks, outdoor activities, bars and dance clubs. Everything was within walking distance or a short uber/Lyft drive away. I would highly recommend visiting Austin. But, probably not in the summer :|

Austin was an unexpectedly beautiful and pleasant city.
Austin was an unexpectedly beautiful and pleasant city. Walkable parks and downtown. The Capitol is beautiful and UT campus is really nice.Lots to see and visit. Many great restaurants and, of course, music venues. The neighborhoods are beautiful, especially around SoCo (but I wouldn't be able to buy a house there).

This city is much larger than I expected and is growing rapidly. There are wonderful things to see and do and the people are wonderful. We took an hour long river boat ride where the skyline and 'lake' was explained. We went to live music at the smaller stage at the ACL. We took a 3 hour long tour of haunted sites. We were there for the eclipse but we drove out of the city to the Hill Country outside of Austin which was delightful. Unfortunately the transportation infrastructure in Austin is just not able to accommodate all that growth so traffic is quite a problem and there is almost no public transportation.

It was fun to watch the bats come out at night.
It was fun to watch the bats come out at night. The BBQ place we picked had a line but still had food after 8pm. There is some history here which we enjoyed viewing on our car tour. Downtown is quieter during the day than the night.

There is so much to do in Austin.
There is so much to do in Austin. We stayed 3 nights just outside the city - between driving in and wandering the city, it wasn't enough. We were really impressed by the number and range of food options - food trucks, cafes, and restaurants. If you're into food, music, nature, shopping, socializing, and/or exploring urban spaces, we highly recommend this city.
The property was beautiful. Modern with a historic feel. very comfortable. the staff was amazing. They have Great customer service & extremely accommodating. knowledgeable & generally easy to talk to. The food & drinks at the restaurant in the hotel are Amazing! Brunch & dinner were both spectacular. truly a hidden gem. The location of the hotel is a nice one as it sits adjacent to downtown Austin. You can walk there. All in all I heavily enjoyed my stay & I would most definitely return.
I splurged and upgraded to an historic king room and that was very worthwhile as I received a quiet comfortable room with a view that had easy accessibility to both Brazos and Sixth. The Driskill is in the liveliest nightclub area of town so I am not sure how quiet it would have been on a weekend. This hotel is in a great location for seeing everything in downtown Austin. I ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant which serves a delicious brunch every day until 2 pm.
Beautiful property in a great location - removed from all the hustle and bustle of downtown yet close enough to get there if you so desire. Came here wanting an escape for a couple of days, and that’s exactly what I got! Feels more like Florence/Tuscany than Texas! Clean, well-appointed room with a view of the hills on the west side. Staff is very friendly, and the pool area is heavenly! Definitely a hidden gem in the Austin area!
Beautiful hotel with helpful staff. Gorgeous pool and spa, the only challenge is getting a chair as they get taken quite early and quickly! Staff was great and even let me check out late and use the pool til I had to leave for my flight. Although pricey, I would stay again.
Located in downtown and a short walk away from shops and cafes and gyms such as Barry’s and Soulcycle, and a short Uber from 6th east st for the bars
The location is excellent for exploring what east Austin has to offer but also for walking to other areas like downtown. We especially loved the decor, bath products, attached coffee shop and bar, and the friendly and helpful staff. As two female travelers, we felt safe at the property and in the neighborhood. We really loved the Lazarus brewery and Whisler’s bar on adjacent corners to the hotel.
It was the cheapest hotel we found in Austin. This city is incredibly expensive, so anything below $70/night is a steal so long as the door can lock! The facilities did look pretty worn down from the outside, but the rooms were genuinely clean and comfy, and it's only a 15 min drive from downtown. If you have a little patience, it's a great budget option!
In town for concert at ACL Live at Moody Theater, 10-min walk from hotel. Easy access on foot to myriad of restaurants and music venues. Rate hard to beat for hotel in downtown Austin. Only catch being small room (150m2), but well appointed, new, comfy. Choice of street- vs courtyard-facing room.
The Stephen F Austin is in a great location in downtown Austin! A few blocks walk to the Capitol building, and a few blocks the opposite direction to the river. The staff were great with their recommendations, and the hotel itself was pristine.
bed was really comfortable. Decent location next to loads of bars and restaurants! With a 35 minute walk into downtown austin. Little christmas bar on location was really good and i like how there is a barbers next door.
The Fairmont is a top notch hotel located in the heart of downtown Austin and a block from the Rainey Street nightlife. The pool and hotel bars are fantastic and the staff is exceptional! Highly recommend!
The location was perfect. Close to all of the good stuff in downtown Austin, including restaurants, Whole Foods, and bus stops and nice old historic houses to break up the view of all the new sky rises.
I liked how the hotel was located walking distance from many hotspots in Downtown Austin. The room was nice and spacious. The staff were very welcoming and the complimentary breakfast hit the spot.
Fantastic location - was effectively in the middle of downtown Austin, very helpful and pleasant staff, and (grading on a hostel-specific curve) the space was clean and well maintained.
The view from my room of the Colorado River was exceptional. The hotel is well-located downtown and has great amenities onsite, including a bar, roof-top restaurant, pool, and gym.
