This Victorian bed and breakfast in Newport, Rhode Island is just a 10-minute walk from the scenic Cliff Walk and beach. It features individually themed rooms and a gourmet breakfast.
Score from 194 reviews Wonderful
Just one block from Washington Square in downtown Newport, Rhode Island, this historic inn is a federal-style building that was once the Newport county jail.
Score from 167 reviews Excellent
This hotel, located directly on Newport Harbor, boasts waterfront views, on-site dining, and an indoor heated pool. Historic Queen Anne Square is only a 4-minute walk.
Score from 457 reviews Very good

Score from 440 reviews Good
Really good value for the money. Free parking. Great location walking to Touro Synagogue and the Newport Wharf area.
Breakfast was barely continental. Tea toast and only sugary cereals. Would like to see fresh food and healthier cereals. The wifi did not work. I had to use my mobile data on my phone. I reported this to the staff and she just told me to reboot my computer which was stupid as I'm an IT person. She did not offer to call someone to get the problem fixed. I overheard a front desk clerk make a racist remark complaining about a "Mexican woman,"
Location - enjoyable walking distance to Mansions, Cliff Walk, Tennis Hall of Fame, cute restaurants and shopping. Rooftop patio garden - lovely evening spot to relax with our wine and cheese.
Internet was not working in the Carriage House.
Freshly baked cakes were great.
We had two lovely four poster beds in our quadruple room, with the 2nd one in a separate room so more like a suite. Beautiful rooms, staff very very helpful and attentive to detail. Coffee and cookies available free downstairs 11 - 6, which was great. Fridge in room. Centrally located for Newport waterfront and complementary continental breakfast varied and good.
Traditional house with loads of character. Staff very helpful and location good.
Stayed in the coach house and could hear other rooms through thin walls. Not surprising due to age of the building but made us a little uncomfortable.
It provided a good basic room. The location was very good and the price was very reasonable. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
I would probably pay a bit more for a bit more comfort. The shower was a bit small and we were on the top floor so a lot of climbing.
Good location. Within walking distance of many attractions. Parking on premises.
We loved the Inn! This was our first time visiting the Yankee Peddler Inn and we loved the charm and the staff! Everyone was very friendly and helpful when we were looking for places to eat and to “see.” The breakfast was perfect, it was as stated, a cold continental breakfast. There were cookies and coffee/tea available all day. The people we met at breakfast (other guests) were a pleasure to eat with, we all chatted about our adventures for the day and what we did prior; which was helpful to know where to stay away from and what not to miss! We were able to walk everywhere; we only took our car out when we wanted to go to the beaches, cliff walk and the Fort. The rooms were cozy…they were dated as the Inn was dated and that is what gave it the charm we loved. The bed was very comfortable and we stayed for 2 nights and slept well for both nights. Our room was clean, the bathroom was clean…the only issue I had was the water pressure in the shower. BUT – the Inn is old and there will be things you just need to accept. I can handle bad water pressure in the shower; I cannot (will not) handle rude staff or a dirty room and both met well over my expectations. We are looking forward to going back next year and we will be staying at the Yankee Peddler Inn. I have every confidence that if my room was dirty or something needed to be addressed, all I would have had to do was ask and it would have been addressed. Someone was around at all times and the small amount of rooms made it easier for managers and staff to be a little more personal with you…you just need to let them
water pressure in the shower; but the Inn was built in 1830...I was happy to have a shower/bathroom in my room!
The bed was comfortable and each day clean linens were provided. The staff when out of their way with the breakfasts and recommendations/directions to restaurants and places of interest. The location was perfect in that we could easily walk to the pier or to the Tennis International Hall of Fame. Golf course was close by. Our best meals were in Buskers Irish Pub at the corner of Mary and Spring Streets ( 5 minute walk) in spite of going to two expensive restaurants rated in the top 10.
stairs to top of building dingy dining room but ok food
It would have been nice to have a common area with sofa and chairs
Good locations 5mins walk to old town centre a 20min walk to mansions. Breakfast great. Very clean room, little small but complementary cheese & wine weekends was nice touch. Would recommend.
Would've liked more info from host on getting to & from Newport using public transport, they expect u to drive, even info centre looked at us like we were crazy.
The staff was helpful and nice
For the price I was given a servants quarters room that had a be on the floor and the entire small , small room made we want to escape it. I will not stay here again.
The staff was terrific; the rooms were charming and very clean; the breakfast room was delightful and there was a good choice of cereals and breads.
We had the two front rooms, and while it didn't bother my husband and me, who live in New York City, our friends really noticed the traffic on Touro Street at night, so if that might upset you ask for a room at the back.
Location, short walk from town centre with parking. Easy to drive up to the mansions. Coffee, tea and cookies available in the afternoons. Friendly, helpful staff.
Stayed in the carriage house, room was small - but we thought that it might be when we booked.
The room was amazing, the staff was also. Close to lots of places to go to. And the gift of wine for us as we just got married. Thank you so much, it was so kind of you.
The 3rd floor, parking arrangments, the breakfast should be a hot one. But don't let that seem I didn't like the stay, I did and would come back again
Charming staff, walking distance to everything, beautiful place.
Bed was a little to soft for my wife.
A good location for exploring, easy access to the town without the fuss of parking. The staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. Good size, comfortable rooms. Wide choice at breakfast. The roof terrace has a sea view (glimpse) but is very pretty and a must for warm evenings spent just chatting and relaxing - a good way to meet other travelers too.
I can't really fault this place it has everything you need to create a charming stay.
It could have been cleaner especially in the hallway. Pictures in my room looked liked they had not been dusted in a year.
Liked the location. The staff was friendly, the room was clean. We loved the deck on the roof of the main house, where we had our coffee in the morning.
We were on the bottom floor of the carriage house and it was dark and noisy due to air conditioner running all night.
the room was very comfortable, staff helpful and friendly.
Terrific location made it easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Basement kitchen had a nice English pub feel where we made new acquaintances over complimentary wine and cheese provided by B&B. Carriage House room was spacious, adding to the good value of this B&B.
Rooms next to Turo St are noisy with busy road traffic and late night revelers walking and talking as they pass by. Did not sleep well. Bathroom did not have a light near the sink mirror, so makeup application wasn't easy.
Location was ideal. Friendly staff. Clean room.
We stayed in room 17 of the carriage house. The noise level during the night made for a very sleepless two nights. I would recommend new windows, especially in that particular room. Friends stayed in room next door and had no noise issues. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.
Excellent location; decor; parking; breakfast was ok.
Low street-level room that rocked with the passing of automobiles and even worse with passing motorcycles.
