Great location, good breakfast, nice pool and view from tower.
Average acommodation - dated but completely adequate.
Blinds were broken, no black out curtains, noisy,
Really great views
Need to reopen the restaurant
Staying at the tower was cool.
When booked told would get a free tour, but it was closed for 5 out of seven days each wk. Should tell you up front there are 66 steps to room.
No restaurant, no bar
The helpful staff let me use their computer and printer, sat in office using wifi as signal in room was weak. Clean room, good shower with hot water after camping was nice! Location was fun with splendid views but older couple had to switch room because of vertical grade and many steps.
Different grade requirements (steep side hill location) needed to be noted at the time we made the reservation.
Room was ok but this property is built on a hill so access to our room was quite tricky up and down steps and around the pool and just really not conducive to hauling luggage either. It rained and it was like a river running down the steps and no protection until you got to the deck area where there is a restaurant. However, the restaurant is closed so no food just continental breakfast. $10-20 per person for cab ride to most places depending on distance.
Unfortunately the restaurant at Blackbeards has closed. Can still buy drinks on site and enjoy the million dollar view.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. They went out of the way to help us solve a problem with our travel plans. (even after we had checked out and left the property!)
There are lots of outside stairs! That is not a bad thing, just be prepared!
Given high prices on St John, Blackbeards is good value despite basic nature of room.
Arrived at midnight and security guard had not been informed of booking. I did eventually manage to persuade him to give me a room. All was well in the morning.
Broken TV, Broken shower, no soap dish in shower, broken toilet, Wi-Fi very week, ants, only one small lamp in room
Lousy facility, no bar or restaurant.
I liked the proximity to town. It is with in walking distance to the shipping district
When we first arrived the day manager was great and walked us to our room and showed us around When we got to our room he turned on the air conditioner and showed us how to operate the electric blinds all was good ! My husband left the hotel shortly after to get something to eat when we arrived back to our room the air conditioner wasn't working My husband went back to the front desk where the night manager was to let him know the air conditioner wasn't working. The night manager sent my husband back to the room and advised to try the switches. My husband came back to the room and continued to try and get the air working with no luck. After walking back to the office for the second time and its at least a 5 min walk in the pouring rain the night manager was sitting back in his chair all relaxed asking if he git the air working. The night manager eventually came to the room to confirm that there was an electrical issue so no air. It was the worst sleep ever!!!
Pent house room very large great views
advertised restaurant on premise was closed
The water tasted horrid. They did not have any bottled water to offer, nor any to buy.
This place has a beautiful view of downtown St. Thomas. It's a short 8 min downhill walk to the main shopping area in Charlotte Amalie. They also have a nice pool.
It was very difficult to get checked in. This place is locked down like a prison. We tried rigging the door bell but no one answered. A taxi driver finally told us we should try banging on the door. This finally got the attention of the front desk guy who was a little perturbed he had to check us in at 10 AM. His attitude eventually got better and was helpful getting us room keys and showing us how to walk downtown. The only other bad thing was the wifi didn't work in our room we had to walk over to the restaurant to get anything done online.
Location and view from terrace was great. Room pretty basic but ok for a night or two. Staff friendly.
Chose hotel because it had a restaurant and bar apparently but these were closed. Be prepared for quite a few steps to the less expensive rooms.
spectacular view helpful staff: Althie
stained sheets worn furniture bar and restaurant permanently closed out of the way location
the view is awesome, sky view of all of the island
not so clean as i imagine
The three swimming pools were nice. The hotel is located within walking distance of several historical sites and attractions. Our room was spacious; however it was in need of updating. Complimentary admission to the Blackbeard's Castle walking tour was a plus.
The restaurant and bar are no longer operating (as of January 2015) which made the property seem a bit "vacant" and rundown. Disappointing not to be able to dine and drink at the hotel. Management should remove restaurant and bar photos from website.
Not much. the staff is rude and never available to serve anyone. No continental breakfast or shuttle as promised.
Almost everything. The staff is rude and housekeeping stinks. We had the same pile of sand on the floor for all 4 days.
Te staff was very friendly and accommodating. Very private balcony. Wonderful grounds.
Request upper floor rooms. The noise of people above you moving around or out is very loud. The restaurant and bar are closed - at least seasonally. It's a shame.
I believe that the Inn is up for sale. The restaurant has closed. It is a beautiful property with the pocket pools and sitting areas. The staff went out of their way to make our stay very pleasant.
I worry that the Inn is going to close until a new owner for the entire property is found.
getting there was tough, no signs or help with directions
The location with the view and the history of the area
The resort is closing May 2015. If new ownership takes over and renos are done it would be fair. Bar and restaurant were closed. We were not expecting a 5 star hotel but a 3 would have been nice.
