small, quiet (except for the rooster!), well located, discreet staff, early continental breakfast, nice clean pools, cable tv, excellent price-quality ratio.
It has a gorgeous view!!!!! Super close to downtown though there are a lot of stairs at the hotel and to get to downtown so be ready to hike! Taxi service readily available! Beautiful pool and decent breakfast! Everyone is super nice and helpful!
That the restaurant and bar weren't open! But we made do! Went to town and got our own stuff to make drinks and enjoy the view. Restaurant won't be open till at least the end of 2015 because of the old owner has the liquor license till then. But don't let that hinder you because you will definitely miss out!
wonderful location, beautiful site
We sail all over the islands and never really know what we are in for when we get a room. Blackbeards was a fantastic surprise that was much more than expected. Friendly helpful staff and what a view- We will come back just because of the hotel and venue and view. Loved it
Short distance from downtown shopping area in St. Thomas and beautiful views.
Bar and restaurant were not functional which was a disappointment since you practically have to take a cab everywhere on the island and we were looking forward to the convenience. Many steps and stairs to get to our room and carryingand navigating a suitcase was very difficult. We had friends staying in the hotel and visited their room one day which was significantly nicer than our though we reserved the same type of room and were paying the same price. There's seem luxurious compared to ours, which they initially described to us as "basic." While it seemed clean and safe, we knew we wouldn't be spending a ton of time in our hotel room during the trip, which was fine but it seemed ridiculous to pay the same as some of the rooms on our floor which were much nicer.
Too many steps. No restaurant. No bar. Despite a generous tip the porter did not offer to bring ice. A strenuous climb from town. No grocery store and very few restaurants.
The property is beautiful and view from our balcony was outstanding.
Bar & restaurant not open. This is not reported on their website. Free tours are not available unless a cruise ship brings a tour.
I'm 64 and they gave me a room I had to walk 78 steps to. They said that's all they had left.
From the check in until the check out, we had a good experience from all the staff. The pools were nice and our room was very comfortable.
We were disappointed that the bar and restaurant were shut down!
Based on on-line info, selected this hotel for the location and history. Was not disappointed in either case.
However, since the hotel is for sale, the restaurant and bar are both closed for meals (other than a basic continental breakfast). Our room badly needed updating, noisy ac unit, and a very uncomfortable bed. Having to go off property after a long travel day for a meal was not what I expected, and the room (S6) left a lot to be desired.
We really enjoyed our stay at Blackbeard Inn. It's a unique place--we had a nice room (W-2) overlooking Charlotte Amalie and it was a short walk into town for food and shopping. Room was clean and everyone was friendly, plus there was a continental breakfast included. There are three different pools you can relax in, and the grounds overall are very pretty and quiet.
I'm not sure if the hotel is in transition with management or what, but there was a bar/restaurant area that was basically vacant, except for breakfast. It would definitely be a cool place to have a drink or dinner, if it were open. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a heads up because in some pictures I saw before we went, it looked open, so don't plan on eating at the hotel (except for breakfast).
Great location, good breakfast, nice pool and view from tower.
Average acommodation - dated but completely adequate.
Blinds were broken, no black out curtains, noisy,
Really great views
Need to reopen the restaurant
Staying at the tower was cool.
When booked told would get a free tour, but it was closed for 5 out of seven days each wk. Should tell you up front there are 66 steps to room.
No restaurant, no bar
The helpful staff let me use their computer and printer, sat in office using wifi as signal in room was weak. Clean room, good shower with hot water after camping was nice! Location was fun with splendid views but older couple had to switch room because of vertical grade and many steps.
Different grade requirements (steep side hill location) needed to be noted at the time we made the reservation.
Room was ok but this property is built on a hill so access to our room was quite tricky up and down steps and around the pool and just really not conducive to hauling luggage either. It rained and it was like a river running down the steps and no protection until you got to the deck area where there is a restaurant. However, the restaurant is closed so no food just continental breakfast. $10-20 per person for cab ride to most places depending on distance.
Unfortunately the restaurant at Blackbeards has closed. Can still buy drinks on site and enjoy the million dollar view.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. They went out of the way to help us solve a problem with our travel plans. (even after we had checked out and left the property!)
There are lots of outside stairs! That is not a bad thing, just be prepared!
Given high prices on St John, Blackbeards is good value despite basic nature of room.
Arrived at midnight and security guard had not been informed of booking. I did eventually manage to persuade him to give me a room. All was well in the morning.
Broken TV, Broken shower, no soap dish in shower, broken toilet, Wi-Fi very week, ants, only one small lamp in room
Lousy facility, no bar or restaurant.
I liked the proximity to town. It is with in walking distance to the shipping district
When we first arrived the day manager was great and walked us to our room and showed us around When we got to our room he turned on the air conditioner and showed us how to operate the electric blinds all was good ! My husband left the hotel shortly after to get something to eat when we arrived back to our room the air conditioner wasn't working My husband went back to the front desk where the night manager was to let him know the air conditioner wasn't working. The night manager sent my husband back to the room and advised to try the switches. My husband came back to the room and continued to try and get the air working with no luck. After walking back to the office for the second time and its at least a 5 min walk in the pouring rain the night manager was sitting back in his chair all relaxed asking if he git the air working. The night manager eventually came to the room to confirm that there was an electrical issue so no air. It was the worst sleep ever!!!
Pent house room very large great views
advertised restaurant on premise was closed
