Golden Silk Hotel is a 4-star boutique property located in Hanoi's Old Quarter, less than half a mile from the scenic Hoan Kiem Lake and the famous Water Puppet Theatre.
Score from 181 reviews Excellent
The rooms were very clean and the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The location was just outside of the old quarter district and within walking distance.
We had a lakeside view but it was not much of a view. It was mostly obstructed by the side of the hotel between the pool and tennis courts. Make sure you look at the room and view before confirming if the view is important.
The Ho tay view was just amazing
I like the lake view while having breakfast, the helpfulness of their staffs and above all, they speak English which make it easier for us to communicate and ask questions.
The hotel should have a clinic or an affiliate clinic where guest can consult with in case of an emergency. My friend used the cotton buds provided by the hotel which was of poor quality. Unfortunately, the tip got removed and stucked inside her ear when she was using it. Unable to remove it and feeling some pain, she asked the receptionist where the nearest hospital was bec it was almost midnight. The receptionist talked to a taxi driver to bring my friend to a hospital and wait for her but the taxi driver just left her at the hospital. The receptionist on duty may not know that SOS Int'l was just nearby and should have asked the taxi to bring her there. My friend complained with the receptionist and they promised to get in touch with the taxi company and have the fare she paid refunded. Until the day we checked out, there was no news about the taxi. I brought my friend to SOS Int'l the following day. She has to spend more than US$100 just to have the tip of the bud pluck out from her ear. Their supplier of cotton buds should be changed as well or should be reprimanded not to supply cotton buds of inferior quality.
The West Lake area is a welcome escape from the frenetic action of Hanoi. The hotel has a pool which makes the most of its location on the lake. There is also an extensive driving range into the lake, a bit odd, but gave my husband and son a chance to practice their swings. The buffet breakfast was good.
We arrived late (11pm) and although we had requested an extra be in our room through Booking.com, we were told that we could not have one! I had to trawl through my iphone to show the receptionist my booking but he was insistent that it was too late! I have 3 teenage children and explained that they could not all share a double bed (fine when your paying backpacker prices, but at this room rate???). Two hours later and after much dispute, we received our bed. We had also requested rooms that were nearby but this request was also ignored. Be careful of the 'lake view' rooms; we had a 'fantastic' (not) view of the flaking tennis court with an essence of lake (and no balconies).
Amazing setting, perfect distance from the busy centre of Hanoi. Good sized rooms.
Excellent pool & health club, very scenic location on the lake, and very warm & helpful staff.
Good location, good room, pool was a good size but dirty and overcrowded (difficult to swim lengths).
Tennis courts but no rackets or balls available. Despite the high price of the stay, most facilities require you to pay extra. '++' next to every price (means the cost advertised is not inclusive of 15% tax + service charge). Pretty disappointing for the money we paid. The pool was full of flies. The breakfast was a bit shoddy. The whole place is in need of a renovation. This felt like a mediocre 3 star hotel at 4 star prices.
Friendly heplful staff. Good facilities
Bedroom with bath in the room
The hotel is nice with the modern furniture, clean. We were surprised how many golfers there we saw, probably because outside the hotel has a golf tee.
We were unpleasantly surprised when we did not get the room we booked - overlooking the lake. Instead of that they offered us the higher category room but with a city view.
Building renovations were taking place, and the pool and terrace area looked like a building site, and we're very noisy. Not a good experience.
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They also spoke very good English. Excellent hotel would definitely recommend staying there to anyone
Facilities where good, we all enjoyed the driving range
The mattress was way to hard, woke up most mornings with a very sore back, would recommend you invest in either softer mattress or mattress comforters to make the mattress softer, and more of a selection for your buffet breakfast and to not deep fry the bacon.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. After they found out what the recommendation for harlong bay cruise is not good, try apologize to me and upgrade my room to the best one ... they are also very helpful in a lot ways... Staff make a difference.
Standard room shower curtain not seal the water properly, so after shower the floor is wet. Entrance to the hotel is very small narrow area,
Pretty calm but still close to bustling Hanoi
Nice little gym and steam/sauna area. Pool looks great but weather meant couldn't get in! Comfy bed Good shower in bathroom
Breakfast functional! But ok.
The gifts when we arrived. The morning breakfast. The luxury room. The beautiful view on the lake.
One receptionist who didnt want to let us book another night at the same level in the hotel.
Modern hotel complex located just on the Ho Tay Lake shore. Spacious, nice, clean rooms with good free WIFI, fridge, tea&coffee facility. Very good buffet breakfast. Very helpful English speaking staff. Shops, restaurants within the walking distance, however, you need taxi, local bus or around 30 minutes walking to reach the old city.
Unfortunately, the pool was under maintenance during my stay.
Good value for money in a very relaxing surrounding
the toothbrush is not good.
Room was great, staff excellent.
Breakfast was cold. Location was smoggy
lovely big rooms & good bathrooms; great breakfast; nice bar area
i booked this hotel becasue of lovely big swimming pool but when I arrived, it was closed for maintenance for whole of my stay but this had not been mentioned on their website when i had booked; it shold have been pointed out at time of booking
Great location Facilities for golf excellent
Very friendly staff, good value for money
Food was rather expensive compared to other hotels.
Most of my business trip to Ha Noi, I stay this hotel, because "just everything fine"
the staff was very kind, helpful and proactively seeking the needs.
a bit far from the airport than I thought from the hotel info. I thought it would take only 20min since the distance was 17km, however we had to go around the lake and took 50min.
