Location of hotel and ambiance over the water
Comfortable room with a nice view from balcony, good breakfast, good food at coffee shop, beautiful hotel on the lake
We called for luggages to be picked up but no one came. My husband had to carry luggage down two flight of stairs and we also had to drag our suitcases to the lobby when we checked out.
good breakfast, lunch, beautiful lake around
very beautiful pictures on booking.com attracted us, when arrived didn't see anything close to pictures: dirty carpets in the lobby of 5 star hotel said all about the hotel. The room didn't have clean feeling, towels were not as white as 5 star hotels usually provide (like they were washed by hands), bathrobe was smelly and not fresh. Stuff is not 100% polite. Reception pushed extra services for extra money. Paid 240 USD per night, didn't worth that money at all. More than that there were a lot of bugs around that didn't let us enjoy the balcony and the view of the foggy lake that day. Changed the hotel after one night stay. That is a shame of Intercontinental. Till we had left the hotel we thought we would never come back to Hanoi or Vietnam again. That was the experience.. Sad..
Concierge service is worth the money
The comfort and facilities of the hotel were very good. The food standards were high and the service was at a level you'd hope for.
The location was not good if you want to experience Hanoi. It is a fairly long taxi to get to any of the main attractions and there is nothing near the hotel that you would want to go to. The other problem I found here was that everything came at a price, such as printing a sheet of paper, using the internet, using the hotel computer for 5 minutes, a hefty service charge on all food and so on. During my time in Vietnam I stayed at 6 hotels and this was my least favourite. I would strongly advise staying somewhere more central.
the policy to the customers who prepay in full is very unfair. I prepay the room rate for Jan 30. However, due to the urgent schedule I cheched in on 29 one day earlier than booking, and check out on 30. The room is not transferrible. at the end InterCon charged me $230 on 29 and I was forced to give up room rate on 30. in total, it costed me more than $350 for one night only.
Well equiped and spacious
Funny smell in room 850
Free wifi is only available in the lobby
Found excellent rates Club membership cost is an excellent value since the happy hour food and drinks are a full meal We were only there for three nights and the staff took care of us like we were the only customer. First rate staff! Fresh baked goods and tropical fruit honey!
People love the rooms that are out over the water and they fill quickly. I thought the mosquito population was too thick so asked for the main building. You would have to search to find something wrong with the facilities (7-years old) or staff.
It's located on the water on the pillars which is perfect for relaxation on the balcony and at the bar. Extremely supportive and friendly staff. Pillows menu in the room.
Is located far outside the city center (15 min by taxi) which is not a big problem as taxis are always available immediately. Though it might influence your plans for evening coming out and dining. Because of proximity to water, it's chilly and humid in the rooms.

Cold pool; Not so convenient to get to centre but great for a break from the noise
We really love the environment and the surroundings of Hanoi West Lake
Well..mostly those were bugs which flying around at balcony so we cannot enjoy our lazy time longer
room, service and hotel are excellent.
the location is far from old quarter.
Staff are very helpful and efficient, very friendly.
The setting and the location was a beautiful calm away from the storm
we paid for a pavilion room looking over the westlake, top views and a quiet location.rooms were large and clean, and the breakfast was excellent.Would recommend
only free wifi if you join hotel membership
Hotel staff speak good English and the food was quite good at the hotel. The distance was about 30 min to the airport so if that's what you look for then the location is fine.
It is surprising that there's no free wifi at the room unless you sign up to be a member - even that I was not informed until I found out myself. I requested a quiet room(away from staff/tool room) but I was assigned a room right across the staff room so very loud at night. I was transferring to the airport the next day so didn't request a change. Hotel is far from the old quarter although one can always jump in a taxi.
Quite location, excellent food for christmas eve
water front room , very silent & good location ,good feeling
breack fast many custmer came ,so feeling staff no enough
The breakfast was great. Room was clean and well presented.
Waited for the concierge for 30mins and then left as she was still occupied with same couple. Perhaps employ another concierge to help with the morning rush.
Hotel staff very pleasant
Our room was amazing so large with a duel balcony and the position on the 4th floor with the views over the lake and city were breathtaking. The Milan restaurant in the hotel was so good we went two nights in a row. The sunset bar kept to its name and the sunsets were just lovely over the water.
The pool was extremely poor, not heated and the atmosphere and size had no wow factor like most of the hotels other facilities for a 5 star rating.
