The standard of the rooms were excellent and the staff very friendly and professional. The grounds and facilities are beautiful.I Would highly recommend this hotel. I loved everything about the hotel. Even though it was in the middle of Hanoi the rooms were extremely quiet.

Real five stars, nothing to complain at all. But I thing the best in this hotel is a touch of history and French colonial luxury. We stayed in historical wing and it was very stylish. It is still pretty expensive. Here you are paying for atmosphere, not just for comfortable staing.

Great room and ambience When we checked in we were told that we have been upgraded to the executive floor with acess to the lounge and private butler service as a special consideration. After some time we were told that we have been given the executive floor room but all special previledges were withdrawn. We think witrh the kind of money being charged breakfast should be included.

Great service, atmosphere and ambiente. Good breakfast and reputated in-hotel-restaurants. You get the impression to be in another aera of time especially if you haven chosen the historical wing for your room. Some rooms (room 309) are quite small but still have their charme.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the decor of the whole hotel was beautiful, combining the nostalgic french architecture with modern, there were also plenty of restaurants to choose from within the hotel. Location is also great, situated in the old quarter, most of the shops are within walking distance. nothing much except that when we arrived at the airport we requested for a normal taxi from the hotel but they gave us a limousine, which was pretty costly.

Some japanese speaking staffs are very kind while other staffs are bad as there is a thermometer but some says no thermometer for guests,or concierge says convincingly Ho's house is closed in Friday actually it is open in the morning. I changed room from premium opera to classic.they gave me a very narrow room of classic part even though I paid 25dollars/day in addittion. Staff's English is mostly terrible and French is worst.

We stayed at the Metropole over Xmas 2011 - both in the Opera wing and (after a night in Halong Bay) the Metropole wing. We loved both. The hotel is immaculate and was beautifully lit up for the Xmas festivities. We loved the hot mulled wine and the heated pool in the winter time and the Xmas day brunch was fabulous - it was a great way to spend the holidays. The staff were all very helpful and kind too. The Metropole really is a haven in the middle of all the chaos and noise of Hanoi, I highly recommend a stay there if visiting this city. Try to get a room facing inwards to the beautiful courtyard - outside rooms do get some traffic noise.

Room was fabulous Staff tried hard to please with some significant language difficulties. Staff ask the right questions - bonjour Monsieur, anything they can do, etc. - but are often unable to understand the response - in either English or French! Restaurant did not fully understand dietary requirements. E.G. despite low fat/low cholesterol requirement provided complimentary french fries! So called "healthy option" included chicken cooked with the skin on. Ordering meals was a bit of a trial but food tasted good.

The Sofitel encompasses Hanoi's charm. It is in the heart of the city within easy walking distance to all the main attractions. The food is superb and the rooms whilst small (old wing) very romantic. It is an oasis of luxury in the mids of chaotic Hanoi and probably the nicest place to dine in the evenings. The staff seem to be a little bit up themselves. Unlike the usual hospitality one experiences in Vietnam the staff are arrogant and overall not very friendly. Beware the swimming pool is more of a 'pond' feature rather than an actual swimming pool. The pictures are deceptive, it is right on the footsteps of a busy bar/ restaurant and it is unlikely you will feel comfortable swimming unless it is very early in the morning.

Beautiful old world charm. Immaculately presented, very helpful staff & great facilities. Restaruants are great, especially the french one. Location is close to alot of historic sites as it is in the old French quarter of Hanoi and close to Hoan Kiem lake. Would recommend to all that are looking for a relaxing holiday or there on business. The hotel is renovating one of it's bars behind the pool, however it doesn't really detract from the overall experience of this charming hotel. There was a little noise during the day though from the builders, but most of the time I was either out exploring or by the pool with a beer and was too relaxed to care.
