This was idyllic. I had always wanted to stay at a 'desert island' location and this ticked all the boxes. Glorious location, just roll out of bed and swim in the azure waters - bliss. Beautiful sunsets. Golden sand. Peace and quiet. Green hills all around. Delicious fresh food. Unmissable experience.
It could feel a bit hot at times in the rooms due to lack of air conditioning but fans really helped.
The isolation. The efficiency. Being a able to relax.
Having to have a big lunch! It would have been nice to have had a snack as an option.
The beach and clear water (in July) The food was very delicious and varied during all 5 days. Spacious bungalows - most of them next to the beach Snorkling directly from the beach Shallow water - therefore family friendly beach Became addicted to the mango shakes Kayaks and snorkling equipment for rent, sunbeds and pooltable for free. Snorkling trips available. Clean beach and sea
Our stay at the secluded Whale Island resort was wonderful. The natural surroundings are breathtaking, and the facilities are perfect for taking it all in. We were upgraded to a cabin on the beach, which provided a view of paradise. The delicious meals were prepared a la Francaise. We had a blast snorkeling with the Rainbow divers crew.
It is important to know the facilities are a bit rustic. Although the staff are polite and well-trained, they aren't exceedingly warm towards the guests. There are A LOT of French guests at the resort (interpret that as you will)...
Snorkelling, the food, location, peace and tranquility, bar, friendly staff.
The sea urchins which are a bit painful if trod on. Rooms were hot and pillows hard.
food, the beach, the price of services
there is no AC so it is too hot in the room at noon
Quiet Good food Beautiful beach Feel like you're in a secret place nobody knows about We had a wonderful few days and LOVED it. Absolute highlight!
Food expensive in comparison to rest of Vietnam
The location is stunning. A really beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The children loved the beach especially snorkeling. The rooms were very clean. We are glad that we stayed here.
There was far too much food so a lot went to waste. It would have been better to have been able to select which dishes you wanted rather than the staff bringing everything out regardless. It was very hot (May) and there is no air conditioning. This is fine but it is important that you are aware of this when you book. The accommodation is more like "glamping" (glamour camping) rather than a traditional resort - this is not necessarily a bad thing!
- the Island is like Paradise - meals are delicious and the amount of food was for us - two males - enough - it is not cheap but the time we spent on Whale Island is worth it. - about every cost you are informed before and the costs doesn't pop up all the time
- instant soup for the breakfast, you better not order noodles soup
I love the diving. I also liked the massages. Everything was great and the people were fantastic. Do not go to the island if you are expecting no sand and air conditioning. That is what I loved about the island. Small and just a great place to relax and dive.
1. Have not shampoo in bathroom 2. No choice to choose dinner and food quite bad
Beautiful island, calm and relaxing.
Everything for money is overpriced. This hotel is an example of how amazing resort could be totally spoiled with an appalling management. They are selling fair-enough dinner for $14, and you have to pay $1 for a bottle of water. You have to pay for towels and snorkeling equipment, not so much, but it's silly! By the way, fishermen's motorboats are not so loud as other people saying. It's a bit uncomfortable at 7am, but ok.
Staff's English is very poor.Although we stayed 6 nights when most guests stay 2-4 nights, the French manager did not once speak to us once as he did with all French speaking guests.Did I care? Not really but we thought it was bad business practise as well as being rude.On arrival no-one explained to us that the lunch & dinners were set meals so we lost our patience with the staff trying to order a la carte-an unnecessarily bad start to the holiday.
Peace & quiet after several large towns.
The extras. Everything else, besides breakfast was at a cost including lunch & dinner at US$12 & 16 respectively. This certainly made things a lot more expensive. Most "Resorts" usually include such things as snorkelling & kayak hire in their charges ,but not Whale Island & it all added up to be a fair bit more than we'd budgeted for.
Just the location.
Well if you don't want to experience the real Vietnam you've find the place you were looking for!!! The place is geared up for money, money , money..... to rip you off and there is no atmosphere there what so ever. In the whole 3 days I was here the only thing the staff said/asked was room number! This was clearly not their fault...to be fair they looked miserable to be there. The place is beautiful but talk about paradise lost...in terms of the concept....the owner really needs to rethink his approach....cost of three days there cost me more than my whole trip combine...every move you made was a ploy for more money...e.g....no water at breakfast, meals were all fixed price yet very poor. Breakfast you was made to feel bad for asking for a juice or coffee refill as you should pay extra. For the room price these things should be standard...every where else in Nam for a fraction of the cost you get a good sturdy breakfast here was cut backs everywhere. Bring a full wallet and low expectations.
This island could have been paradise! but there are so many annoying things! As the resort is the only one on the island, the management uses (and abuses) the fact that there are no other options than theirs. This results on many hidden prices that end up easily doubling the final price (and that’s without counting the drinks that hopefully were the only thing reasonable) We didn't liked this at all (and the other customer with whom we discussed also) and that's why we are so hard on the marking. One positive note though, the diving school and staff is extremely nice and competent and prices are Ok.
Here's our top 5: - Customer is hostage of the single menu, very simple but yet low quality and quantity and extremely expensive meals (27$ per day per person whereas most of our preferred restaurant in Vietnam didn’t cost more than 5$) - Travel costs of 74$ (for 2 persons and per way!) from airport to island as our plane was late and we couldn't catch the only 2PM shuttle (that anyway cost 20$ per person). - You pay everything extra on the island! With such a strange pricing. Eg: 55 dollars for 2h of sailing boat that obviously nobody used during our entire stay... They even charge for the beach towels?! - Impossible to sleep without ear plugs as fishermen boats were passing just in front of the island during all night! and the eco-bungalows are of course not at all isolated! To give you an idea, just imagine a gathering of Harley bikes! - there are small stains on the bedsheets (even though they changed them everyday!!!)
layout very good
staff could be more friendly.also garbage on far side of island a big disappointment.limited menu, but food was good
Location is fantastic, bungalows are very nice, food is very ok. I think a lot of people forget that since there's nothing else on the Island the prices can't be compared to the mainland. I think considering that, this is an amazing place to take a short relaxing break during a north to south (or the other way) holiday to Vietnam.
Private island, great snorkling and excellent for relaxing
Services was not the best
A wonderful place with a smiling and service minded staff - perfect for peaceful days. Exotic and in contrast to the city resorts.
It,s a noisy place when you need silence the most - it is located in the shipping lane of all the fishing boats from the nearby village. Fishermen sleep during the day but from three o'clock in the middle of the nigh a noisy armada on free exhaust diesel engines pass your bungalow, and this lasts till breakfast.
Everything about it. We had a wonderful time on a small island. There werent many people as I thought. The max number of travelers that this resort can manage is 70 so it wouldnt be a problem at peak time. The beach is great with clean yellow-ish sand and clear water. Food was superb except breakfast which we didnt like.
The toilet wasnt good as we kept suffering from blockage.
The location is phenomenal! The island is very beautiful and the view on all sides of the island is great. The staff was very friendly although their English could be better (some of them were very hard to understand). The bungalow we had was very charming and was big as well! We were only with two persons, but we got a bungalow where four people could stay in. On the day we lrft we had a flight at 8am, so we asked at the reception what could be arranged so that we wouldn't be late at the airport. They said that it was not going to be a problem. The arranged a transfer for us at 3am since it would take about 3hrs to get to the airport.
The prices are ridiculously high. We booked 2 nights, breakfast included for $108. This was oke and definitely worth it. But then... Lunch was $12 per person per day, dinner $16 per person per day. Transfer from Nha Trang to hotel $20 per person, transfer from hotel to airport $74 for two. Since this hotel/restaurant is the only one on the island you jus have to buy lunch and dinner as well. There is no other choice. Because of this situation they basically can ask any price they want for dinner/lunch.
Beautiful and quiet; wonderful food. My little hut just back from the water was perfect for me.
Getting there and back was interesting and expensive. It would be good if this was made clearer in the booking material.
After the mayhem of Vietnam cities, this was heaven. Peaceful, quiet, great snorkelling, the food was excellent.
When you spent time in Whale Island Resort, you are totally dependant on their only restaurant. Prices for meals are quite expensive (for Vietnam) but amount of food served per person is very poor! Bring something to eat with you unless you are planning a diet.
