If you're looking for somewhere to get away from it all, to relax, unwind, sway in a hammock & swim, this is the place! Peaceful, private & secluded, there was nothing better than waking up & going for a swim literally a few steps away. The owners Marianne & Torqui were really, really lovely. They live over on the other side & couldn't have done anything more to make us feel at home - stocking a few supplies for us as we arrived in the evening, and Marianne baked us the most delicious bread! Torq took us into town the next day for food shopping and even then offered to go for us if we wanted to just give him a list & stay on the island. We went to relax, but there were plenty of activities for us. We went on a horse ride which Marianne organised & Torq transported us to & other tours were available if we wanted. The island has free use of kayaks which enabled us to explore nearby areas including the famous 'Blue Hole'. Although it was a hard task to get to as we were kayaking against the tide, was well worth it when we finally arrived! We were also lucky enough that Marianne and Torq showed us baby turtles that had just hatched and we watched in awe as they made their way to the sea to start their life adventures. As it was Malvanua's first ever turtle hatching it was pretty special to have been a part of it. On the rainy day we stayed in and watched movies, played scrabble & read books so even that was relaxing. The house was new, clean, surrounded with fly screen & had all cooking equipment that was needed. Beautiful outdoor table (i think Torq had made himself!) on the deck which was perfect to watch the sunset. One day we went for lunch at the nearby Oyster Island so there are options too if you dont want to cook every time. We had such an amazing 5 days. I really could keep raving on about how fantastic Malvanua is and the hospitality of Marianne and Torquil. I hope to be back again.
Really away from it all. 30 minute ride from the airport to a small beach (from where you can see the house), then a quick 5 minute boat ride across the bay to your abode. Giant covered deck (from rain and sun) right out front, large grill, fly screens, large open living area. Torq, Marianne and Frederick were really helpful, positive and responsive. Two large BR, each with full, modern en suite and plenty of hot water. Fun exploring the island and bay (swimming, kayaks provided). This is really great, special place.
A few things are not available, which may not be surprising given the setting, but it will be helpful for visitors to prepare... No phone and no mobile service. No microwave. No laundry facility. Nowhere to get anything (except papaya grown on the island and some basic sundries which Marianne and Torq will happily provide if they can.) Also, some minor suggestions to perhaps improve things... It would have been nice to have had a sofa (there are many chairs, but no love seat or sofa), walkie talkie (ringing the hosts proved impossible with no cell service), one or two floor/pedestal fans (we were there a bit before the hot season and the ceiling fans in the bedrooms were great for sleeping, but it would have been great to have more/movable fans in the living area), better lighting in the kitchen area (for prep/clean-up the single eco-bulb in the vaulted ceiling needs some help). Otherwise all good! Thanks!
We absolutely loved our stay on Malvanua Island and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to avoid the crowds and busyness of resorts. Tork and Marianne are the perfect hosts - helpful and available when you need them, on the other side of the island when you don't. The location is beautiful, superb snorkelling can be had a short kayak away and the house is comfortable with everything you need. The local beef and seafood is sensational if you feel like firing up the BBQ, but quality restaurants are nearby if you don't feel like cooking. We'd love to go back!
A truly wonderful experience. The location is absolutely idyllic. Absolute beachfront on a private, rainforest-covered island, overlooking a tranquil and pristine lagoon. The hosts are lovely, striking the perfect balance between being friendly, helpful & informative and unobtrusive. The house is new and very well designed, with a large verandah, stylish bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. There is plenty to do nearby including swimming, snorkelling, and kayaking. A paddle across the lagoon and up-river to the nearby blue hole is an absolute must! If you ever get bored with paradise the hosts will assist in arranging access to transport to see even more of beautiful Espiritu Santo. They have arrangements in place with operators and locals to make sure you get a good deal. There are a couple of resorts nearby where you are welcome for lunch or dinner and one will even pick you up from and drop you back to your front door by boat. The hosts also took care of our airport transfers, although some of our family arrived and left on different flights. They even helped us do our food shopping! I've been to Vanuatu before but I will definitely be heading back to Malvanua Island!
There were only a couple of very minor inconveniences. The mobile reception with TVL was unuseable from the house itself but it worked elsewhere on the island. It seemed Digicell might be a better option from the house itself. There is no washing machine, but in a tropical paradise it wasn't really necessary. Just throw in a spare pair of bathers!
This place was absolutely amazing. We could not ask for better hosts, who were genuinely happy to answer all our questions and helped us with everything we needed. Accommodation was clean to the highest standard. We have enjoyed our Vanuatu stay in western style. We will come back!
Marianne & Torquil were wonderful hosts and couldn't do enough to ensure that we had a memorable stay!
