Score from 108 reviews Very good
This place is in the middle of a change of management as new owners renovate etc so bear that in mind if you are staying there around the time of this review. The location is fantastic, a five minute walk to town and right on the beach. Staff are superb - friendly and helpful, like most locals in Vanuatu. The room is basic but comfortable. The new managers are changing the decor and facilities bit by bit. Some amazing views over the bay. Generally positive experience, and would love to stay again in the future to see the outcome of the revamp.
Extremely slow wifi, and unable to buy it within the room, but the slow wifi does seems to be normal in Port Vila!
I really liked the hotel's location: right on the water, on the bay. The outdoor bar/restaurant area overlooking the water was beautiful. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Also it was an easy 5 minute wal into town.
The internet signal from the room was often quite weak, although stronger in the public areas.
I loved the staff so cheerful and helpful, I thought that because melanesian had purchased it would be alright.it was clean but I rate it a two.
Firstly I was shown a room which looked which when u opened the back door faced a besser block wall some 6m high, I refused to take it then shown the room above with a so called balcony over the same horrid building site. I was then taken to a room overlooking the pool, none of the rooms shown were equiped as stated, stated in your description no chair, no sofa no, ironing facilities, no cable channels only news, the bed was not in a good position . had to sit on edge of bed to see T.V. no milk, I was told that there would not be an increase, however ,there was a 5% service charge for every night I stayed that is outrageous, I went to the Chantilly's for dinner three times and was not charged any fees on my credit card, never never again will I go back or tell anyone to do so. Read the very small print. I go to Port Vila often and have always had good accommodation get you act together, we come to enjoy ourselves. Each time I never saw the manager he sent his staff to see.
Loved our stay there. Comfortable room friendly helpful staff we will be back!
The service was excellent, the rooms though very small were nice, the pool, the access to the pool from our room, the view over the water, the main course food was really nice. We only needed a one night stay near the airport as leaving early the next morning so it was perfect and surprisingly nice for the price. Would recommend.
The bed wasn't very comfortable and not a big enough bath mat in the bathroom. Also, the dining room (if you can call it that) wasn't very inviting, just a big empty space with no atmosphere but I think it becomes a nightclub later. Also, dessert was only a bit of fruit, so maybe a bit of actual dessert would be good.
My stay was for only an evening before returning home but was certainly adequate for my needs. The accommodation was basic but clean and the availability of meals on the premises was ideal as I was staying on my own. The staff were lovely and helpful, and always smiling. The Hotel is close to the airport, and near enough to town to walk. It has a lovely outlook over the water and the cafe and eating areas were very pleasant with well kept gardens. Free wifi was also included and bus's available at the door.
Milk for tea and coffee was not in fridge as stated in handout, the pool and pool furniture was in need of some repairs, however for the small cost of my room for the night it was not an issue.
Friendly helpful staff and excellent location but very noisy due to building going on next door
Poor quality of meals a good chef would have the place humming
The night we stayed they had live music and when that finished the nightclub next door took over. We had another night booked but decided not to stay as our sleep had been so disturbed.
The location is good and the restaurant was good.
Out hotel room key did not work. Our toilet didn't work. The shower was cold. The staff at the front desk didn't seem to know what they were doing. The place was awful.
Breakfast very average and noisy with early start of building next door.
Lovely, friendly and obliging staff. Beautiful location with gorgeous gardens.
Noise from other tenants, noise from the post nightclub revellers, noise from children bouncing balls outside the room . The restaurant gave a ridiculously small portion of fish with fish and chips on the first night so I didn't eat there again. My partner ate hamburgers a couple of times. The lack of a functioning coffee machine meant a daily walk into town for my coffee! Lack of furniture meant there was only a few banana lounges (3) available and I borrowed a second chair to sit in outside my room - No where to sit and read!
The location is only 10 minutes walk from downtown Port Vila.
In four days we had to use four rooms because of 1) broken door, 2) no hot water, 3) broken toilet and 4) no electricity. Staff response was "Are you sure there is no hot water? Huh." and in the evening "Well, I guess you can't use the toilet until the handyman comes tomorrow" (14 hours later).
too noisy, could hear the guy next door vomiting!
That it was close to town. It was nice and peaceful My unit fronted the water ,
The fact there was no reading light or bedside light . There was only one light on the fan which was quite dull . Only one tv channel that worked .
Staff were all very helpful, friendly and happy. We had lost our phone and one of the staff lent us one and got us a reading lamp as the room only had one dim light in the fan in the bedroom.
Towels were threadbare and sheets nearly threadbare. No reading lights but we were given one, no coffee in room but they found us some. We got internet connection early on the first night and could not connect after that for the 3 days we were there. Wouldn't stay there again.
I loved the convenience of the location to town. As we were there in off season, it was quiet and you felt like you were at home hanging with family and friends as opposed to being holed up in a strange hotel. The staff were wonderful, they kept the grounds in immaculate condition. Alti/Elti one of your servers needs a special mention as do all of the team. Thank you
The complex does need some cosmetic work and amenities like nicer newer towels would not have gone astray. Equipment such as the coffee machine was broken for the entire stay. Only minor things but the main concern was how the expat chap who appeared to be in charge of the resort spoke to the staff, it was not pleasant.
Short drive to airport and walking distance from town centre. Excellent position next to beach, no mozzies noted in February. Plenty of local restaurants and cafés. Staff helpful and friendly.
Hotel restaurant closed. 6 inch long black creepy thing with lots of legs running across floor, but that is not the hotel fault. Pool was a bit murky.
We liked the friendly staff who were very attentive. We enjoyed our meal and breakfast the following morning. It was affordable and value for money.
At dusk there was a cloud of mosquitoes under our table and we needed to move from our preferred seating, perhaps a coil or citronella candle would have been useful to eliminate the worry of malaria and dengue.
The staff were amazing, especially with our young child. Friendly, open and welcoming. Beautiful deck for afternoon drinks. Even with the nightclub right next door, we did not hear it at all. Close to town and services - we were able to walk to most of our daily trips.
Room was a bit small. Shower temperature fluctuated hot / cold every 30-60 seconds. Would have been good if breakfast was included in the room package.
Nice room views from harbour view rooms. 10min walk to town. friendly staff. Good budget food options at hotel restaurant. Good value happy hour cocktails 5-7pm.
The Moorings is conveniently close to the airport and an easy 10-15 minute walk to downtown Port Villa. The outdoor patio provides a nice over-the-water outlook to eat and drink (The over-bright lighting kills the night view). A great hotel for people in transit that only stay 1 or 2 nights and don't need to fully unpack. Staff were all friendly and helpful though not necessarily effective.
Very small room. No bedside/reading lights. With an incredibly noisy refrigerator and doors slamming all night it was like trying to sleep through a gunfight. No flat surfaces in the room suitable to use for writing or typing. They couldn't organize a 5 am ride to the airport. The Moorings is an easy-to-read case study of the poor value-for-money that Vanuatu provides.
staff were most polite and understood that the Moorings is in Urgent need of an Upgrade. It did not stop the staff from working around the difficult situations and doing their best.We had a good time elsewhere.
The owner/owners of the Moorings should be held accountable for what the staff & patrons have to put up with. The Moorings is past its used by date. If it was in Australia it would be closed tomorrow. I feel sorry for Management & Staff who are wonderful.
