Ideally located for tours to Mt Yasur Volcano, Tanna Lava View offers treehouse and bungalow accommodation. Guests can enjoy local Vanuatu cuisine at the onsite restaurant.

Nothing, except that we were thrown off early because of cyclone Pam. Thank God we were and massive thanks to manager Wayne for organizing our flight and accommodation back in Port Villa. We could not have been in a safer place for when the cyclone hit.I just hope that White Grass Ocean fared well and that all the staff were safe.
Stayed in bure 5 with pool just in front was like having a private pool as well as ocean view. Breakfasts were great. Volcano amazing. Waterfall/Beach tour plenty of uphill walking.Staff very helpful.
Owners (you can see that they hate their guests) Staff (totally demotivated, except a lady on reception) Some tours (we had to wait 30 mins while driver arrange something in the bank) Expensive for what you get
Location Bungalows and Cleanliness Additional equipment (mini golf, tennis, etc)
As is probably unavoidable in a place where much of the food has to be brought in, meals were fine, but a little pricey for what you get. To be expected, since Tanna is seriously remote and undeveloped.
Wayne and Sabine and all staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Transport organized without fuss, wherever we wished to go. Excellent, easily accessible snorkeling. There are the blue holes nearby, which are pretty, contained, but quite small. There is also an expanse of hundreds of metres of really interesting reef, bombies and turtles, straight off the jetty at the front of property.
Unrestricted views from room 5
As stated in previous reviews, the hot water in the shower did take some getting use to, but that is the only small problem we encountered during our stay.
We travelled as a family of four with 2 boys (7 & 9 yo), the welcome and service throughout our stay was faultless. We managed to do the blue hole snorkel, Mt Yasur and ATV quad bikes. All of these were amazing and made a big impact on our boys. The meals were better than in Port Villa and the small size of this resort is its' asset. I would (and have) recommended this resort to our friends since we've been back.
Pretty exy but top end resort for Vanuatu.
Great reef diving. Plenty of spots to relax. Definitely worth staying a few days and see more than the volcano
The weather, though the resort can hardly be held responsible for that!
Friendly, welcoming and very helpful staff; wonderful views, especially from the restaurant; tranquil setting; quality of meals; comfortable well-equipped bure. Yasur volcano (and the drive there and back!) was an exciting and memorable experience.
no TV's, gardens and view to the beach/ocean was brilliant. The meals were perfect and very affordable. The people are very calm and you cannot help but do nothing else than to relax
Cost of the tours
Small but annoying issue, the shower was always either burning hot or freezing cold, we could never get it balanced.
Beautiful accommodation, stunning location, well maintained and beautifully landscaped and decoration. All the tours offered by White Grass were great, the guides helpful and friendly - real adventures including the custom village, black magic experience, local market and Tanna highlights and of course the Volcano visit was utterly life changing. Great meals and the limited number of guests meant lots of peaceful and private time.
The food is ok without being extraordinary - we walked to Evergreen (next door) for dinner on two nights. Be aware that their no-refund policy means you'd better have travel insurance if the airline can't get you there on the intended day - you'll be paying for your room regardless, and the airline certainly won't be helping.
This resort provides a good-quality experience for a high price. The room was very comfortable and it's great to have very good snorkelling in calm water just a short walk away. The trip to the volcano was extraordinary, as hoped.
My visit was too short.
I thoroughly enjoyed everything. The staff and management are excellent. The facilities are first class. I especially enjoyed meeting the local people who welcomed us without expectation. I can't wait to go back.
Location and service
Food and drinks were expensive and no food/drinks package was offered. Activities were expensive. The pricing is probably aimed at 2 to 3 day visitors whereas we stayed 7 nights. The offered dinner meals were ambitious for the skill of the cooking staff and meals were often overcooked. Lunches and breakfasts were OK but after a few days they became monotonous and hit and miss with the cooking. This is a great place to stay for 2 to 3 days.
Good location, great staff, great bures with a view of the ocean. Would be a good accomodation option for a 2 to 3 day visit.
The location is ideallic and the bure's were spacious and well appointed. The food was excellent and staff so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend and definitely will return.
The cost was ridiculous- $435 per night for a small, mediocre room for the four of us. I just cannot understand how they can justify this amount. Also they charge 25% more for the tours (volcano etc) and give a worse exchange rate than neighbouring place to stay Evergreen. I really felt ripped off when we wandered over next door.
Nicola was very helpful with some last minute logistic changes which we appreciated. The grounds and pool were lovely.
Where were blue hole 1 and 2?
The flies, bring plenty of insect repellent
Great atmosphere, lovely staff, The food is awesome, we all enjoyed the snorkeling straight out front. Tanna Island is so relaxing and natural.
