Positioned on the edge of a cliff, Acra-Retreat is situated on the border of the malaria-free Elands Krans Nature Reserve. It is a good stopover point between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. It features a seasonal outdoor pool and a children's pool and barbecue facilities. Horse riding, mountain climbing, abseiling and spa treatments can be arranged at the reception. The area abounds in birdlife, including species like owls, swallows and guinea fowls. All rooms offer a private entrance to the decks with mountains views. Each room is fitted with a flat-screen TV and satellite channels. Tea/coffee facilities, a safe, and fan are standard. Acra-Retreat Mountain View Lodge has a fully licensed pub. Sundowners can also be enjoyed on the deck, and dinners are served on request. The hotel is located on the way to the Kruger Park, 2.5 hour’s drive from Johannesburg. Free secure and private parking is possible on site. The hosts Holger and Norma were wonderful. Food was delicious, dinner and breakfasts were very generous. We loved our get away for the weekend! The views from the deck were amazing making for the perfect setting for sundowners to end long days in the surrounding mountains. We were woken up each morning with the staff setting breakfast right outside our doors. The banging of plates, cupboard doors and cutlery each morning wasn't great. The walls seem to be paper thin as we could hear everything going on in the kitchen and bar. Next time we'll request a room away from the service areas.

The setting, the absolutely luxurious room and the friendly welcome all mark this out as a place to visit again. Breakfast on the terrace was special. There's nothing not to like!

Norma & Holger are fabulous hosts... nothing was too much effort! The room, staff, security & not to mention the food was much more than we expected... would definately recommend to friends.

The staff is friendly, helpful and yet not overwhelming. Their food is fabulous. Breakfast is mad with a lot of love and care. And the view is magnificent. Waterval Boven did not have a lot to offer as a town. But there is a lot to offer in the immediate area. The tollgate is a slept and very expensive.

The hosts were very friendly, the food excellent! There are no indications of where to go when you arrive, no "parking" or "reception" signage! We felt a bit lost on arrival. But the overall beauty and friendly hosts made up for this!

the view!!!!! Did ask vir drinks in room(coke) on arrival and choclates on bed, drinks only delivered to room after arrival and no sign of choclates! Did phone in advance to ask for kit kat in room, the excuse was that Waterval Boven is a very small town and they would have to go all the way to Nelspruit to get hold of a kit kat, but on our arrival we went for a drive through Waterval Boven and funny enough the first little shop in Waterval Boven sold Kit Kats. Maybe try harder to please guests if the requests is not all that difficult!!!!!
