In general, Al Marrakesh Guesthouse is one of the worst establishments I have stayed at in my 63 years. The web site creates expectations of comfort, careful planning, good décor and full facilities E.G. the photo of the courtyard on the home page actually is taken at a museum in Morocco. The reality is far from the image created. Further examples of misleading hype are the provision of “covered” parking and the luxurious swimming pool. There is no cupboard space. There’s a small cupboard with two shelves: One taken up by the tiniest fridge I’ve seen, with a small shelf below and hanging space (with one hanger supplied) for maybe three items – totally inappropriate for our booking for two adults for 12 nights/ 13 days with clothing, shoes, beachwear etc. to match. The two bedside tables and bathroom cupboard are small (literally) compensation. There’s no privacy for the bathroom. A flimsy “curtain” held up with paperclips which doesn’t close properly provides a mere modicum of privacy for anyone using the toilet and does nothing to mask personal noises which causes embarrassment for all concerned. In addition, the manager/ gardener/ chef/ man Friday twice appeared at the room while my partner was using the toilet and I had to deal with him outside as a result. We had to complain before we were provided with clean bath towels and hand towel. General maintenance leaves much to be desired: The electrical installation which serves the air conditioner and electric kettle has to be jiggled this way and that before it will work. Obviously the electrics are in such bad shape that this is a severe electrical fire hazard. The shower nozzle head clamp had been stripped, resulting in the shower head continually sliding down the mounting pole. The soap dispenser at the hand basin weeps soap onto the basin top – unsightly, wasteful and unhealthy.

Room too small for 2 adults and 2 children, no privacy or room to move around. Beds are really uncomfortable and hard No comfortable chair or sofa in the room Kitchen is on the stoep and has no comfortable dining table Our room was near the kitchen, actually the Guest House Kitchen was next door through a door. In the evening the staff cooks there, so it smelled like an Indian Restaurant in de bedroom. The garden is practically non-existant so there is not much outside room to play for the kids. This Guest House is only suitable for backpackers, people travelling and staying for 1 day. But pricewize a real dissapointment. The website of El Marakkesh is misleading. Yes, some of the Maroccan stuff is a nice touch, but I would like a guesthouse to be more welcoming and comfortable.

The ocean

We were asked for the balance of our accommodation upon arrival which we found rude and un-professional. Manager was not even there to welcome us. Aircon leakage which left a massive puddle outside our front door every day. Sewage came out of the bath tub when toilet was flushed. Milk was not refilled. Clean cups were not replaced. Bath was dirty upon arrival. Dustbins were not emptied. We were asked to move our car in early hours of the morning due to poor parking arrangements (this was after we were told out parking was secured) Over priced breakfast. We were not the only ones that complained about our accommodation and will not recommend this venue to anyone! We find it very unprofessional to recommend such slack and unpleasant accommodation. We would like to request the registration number of al marrakesh, as we going to see if they are listed with the hotel board so that we can arrange a full overview and inspection of this venue.

We needed accomodation for a wedding in Ballito, and were battling to find somewhere suitable. The prices were exorbitant and for some quite badly decorated B&Bs. I took a chance with Booking.com and was very please to stumble across Al Marrakesh - and with a great price. Set in the leafy suburbs of Ballito, not even 5 minutes away from the reception venue. Our room was tastefully decorated with a middle eastern touch, with beautiful handwoven fabrics and rugs. I especially loved the clever wall unit for the TV, that allowed it to swing out, so you could watch TV on the couch or the bed. They also provided a plunger with filter coffee and fresh milk, which was a lovely touch. We slept very well on the comfy king-sized bed, and woke up feeling very rested after a long night of dancing :)

The photographs on the website are misleading as they make the rooms appear much larger than they are. The facilities in the room we occupied were poor. The room was small, there was nowhere to place bags or unpack anything. There is only one window in the room, making it extremely stuffy. The bathroom did not have a door on it, rather a shabby curtain. The shower was in the bath, but there was not shower curtain therefore everytime you showered, the bathroom floor was drenched. The bathroom basin leaked. The shower mat was not replaced with a dry one and had been left on the floor in the wet state as it had to be used to mop up the shower water. The fresh milk was not replaced after the first day. I would not recommend Al Marrakesh Guest House to other travellers and I do not think that it it is value for what you pay. There are a number of other guest houses I have stayed in that provide far better facilities.

The rooms are furnished very tastefully and have all that you need for a comfortable stay, everything is modern and maintained well. Staff friendly and welcoming. Close to everything.

A little bit compact for a older family, room a bit small and bathroom not private.

The staff went the extra mile and made us feel welcome and were constantly friendly.
