Birchleigh
Offering good value for money, this hotel is close to Durban’s famous beachfront and provides guests with newly-renovated accommodation near the ICC Convention Centre. Boasting views of the Francis Farewell Gardens, the Albany Hotel is a great base from which to explore one of South Africa’s biggest cities and its many attractions. Spend the day exploring Durban before returning to the hotel for a drink at the bar or a meal at the restaurant. Each of the guest rooms is spaciously laid-out and features a marble bathroom, making it a welcome option for those seeking the right mix between comfort and luxury. The friendliness of the staff, which is at your service 24 hours per day, further enhances your stay at the Albany. Hotel Rooms: 80

When I arrived, the hotel said there was no record of my booking, which was worrying, but they were able to give me a room anyway. There's a night club next door which could be noisy I guess if you're on the wrong side - fortunately I wasn'T. Albany Grove itself is a slightly seedy street but there's no need to go down it - Smith Street has more to offer anyway. Finally, the wifi internet has variable signal strength - mostly it works ok but sometimes not.

The breakfast buffet was excellent. The hotel is in a very active area, with bars and nightlife continuing into the early morning. Yet it is also close to all the tourist sites.

The reception staff was friendly. Especially hlengiwe who welcomed me. She assisted me with any questions I had. She must keep up the good work. The bed was so comfortable. I wpould not mind visiting the hotel again. The only problem is the bar next to the hotel. Outside there is smell of urine.

I liked the fact that it was central, close to workshop and transport services. I enjoyed the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. It was good value for money! At night the surrounding areas tend to get a bit rowdy -

The beds and bedlinen were great. The carpet in the room was in poor condition, and there were problems a couple of times with the water supply to the bathroom.

The breakfast was great and the room was very clean. I didnt like the payment method of credit card and cash payment as well, If im paying by credit card, it can happen that i dont have cash with me, so they musnt deduct only 1 night on my credit card, they should actually deduct all nights from my credit card, thats i paid by credit card cause i didnt have cash with me and yet they told me i can only pay 1 night only with credit card then whats the use of using credit card for payment if you still going to demand cash from me.

Pleasant and efficient staff at the reception desk and dining room (restaurant) Superb arrangement and assistance for parking of personal cars in a heavily congested city. Parking facility though not free, was very convenient and accessible. Gave us peace of mind as we were not worried over security of our car. One of the best locations for shopping and busness in the city. Restaurant closes too early.

All the expected creature comforts and best value for money ratio. Being located in the CBD(downtown) is not secure at night.

The convienient of being in the centre of Durban cbd. The price was good and the service was excellent. Though the hotel is in a busy area, it was so queit and made my studies enjoyable. When one drives to and from the parking area, one had to go passing two tarvens/bars when there were lot of people, under influence of alcohol who were all over the road. This made me feel vey unsafe.

Quiet and room was comfortable and booking through the internet made very easy and price was very affordable I couldn't believe that the room cleaning staff could not empty the rubbish bin once in the 3 days I was there. Also, this was the first hotel that I have stayed in where the used bath towels were not changed. The restaurant staff also omit to tell customers that bacon and egg were also available at breakfast and led one to believe that only the stuff in the heated trays were available.

“We had a fantastic room (1601) with a wonderful view. It was quiet - we needed our sleep as we were running the Totalsports Ladies Race the next day. We received 2 breakfast pack as we could not eat before the race - it was fantastic.Room was beautiful. Previous year I stayed at the Casino Hotel, much more expensive with no breakfast. We did not sleep at all because of the noise of people in front of the casino and loud music. Will never stay there again. Next year we are back at Blue Waters - we got a fantastic room for low price this time - probable because of workings on the elevators but I have stayed in your old rooms years before - north facing and was also very happy Thank you very much” Madelein, Tragalgar |
