the building itself has a special charme which is underlined by the refurbishment; breakfast buffet is not overboarding but totally satisfying
situation is quiet, but the inside is always a bit noisy
I liked my stay at Ashanti, the house is very nice, the dorms are super cosy, the bar is very convenient.
It is a party hostel, but the noise was ok !
We spent here 4 nights in a double bed room, near the pool. The shared WC and showers was always clear. The breakfast in the bar for 55 ZAR was very good and good price for dinner the salads, the burgers, pizzas... The safe in the room was very useful. The staff was always kind. Good possibility for laudry. There are stamps at the reception. The location is ideal for shops (supermarket), for small restaurants and bars. The Governor Garden is only a short walk. But for the W&A Waterfront a taxi is better. I recommend Ashanti for open people, who loves the music and young travellers.
It was not chair and table in the room but there were immediately on the terasse.
All of it
General vibe was comfortable, friendly, easy-going and generally young.
1. Missed hot water, we only had luke warm water for the shower.
The whole house is just great. The room is big enough.
It lacks of TV at the private 2 beds rooms (I do not know if it have rooms with TV).
Don't accept room near the swimming pool and the kitchen : Noises until 1pm if you don't say: please we would like to sleep. Noises from 6.30-7am due to the staff who starts to clean.
The location was great and of course the price was right for what I got.
I stayed at the Apartments (a few blocks away) as needed peace and quiet. However, the keys / locks to enter each doors (main gate, front door, room door) did not work well at all. I had to play around with each of them before they worked. They looked old, worn out, rusty. I had to get the staff to come and help me a couple of times. The rest of the time, I just used the back door (as I heard the people from next door were doing). The two keys (room door and iron gate) worked a bit better, not great. They REALLY need to change each lock and make it safe in case the guess & cleaners need to leave the place in emergency (in case of fire, etc).and not pleasant when arriving tired, with luggage and / or late at night. The key issue did not work for me. I'm sure they're violating some sort of safety rules. Please make this change before a huge accident happens.
Noisy but okay.
Price Shared toilet and shower facilities were in good condition and clean.
*The Booking. com advert stated free parking at site but parking is in street. I was worried about my car as a car's window was smashed in the street in front of Ashanti at c. 16:00 on the day I stayed there. * Very noisy but it did quiet down around 22:00 * Room is small and no on-suite bathroom (which is why it is cheap I suppose)
The staff were very helpful and friendly
The showers were not cleaned properly. On my last night at about 2300 pm some girls were argueing and reception did nothing about it I was staying in room 52 close to the main passage and reception
Price, Beds, Staff, clean, location Mattress very comfy and also pillow. Fee maps
Bar a bit noisy if you want to sleep. Vomited up breakfast-still had to pay for it! Internet not free like One in Cape Town.
Snoring room mate
I've stayed there 2nd time. First time was 3 years ago. It is still fine place to stay for few days.
This was my favorite hostel I have ever stayed in. I got a private room so that I would have some place quiet to sleep and privacy, and also because I did not know how comfortable the bunk beds would be in the dorms. In the end, it would have been fine to stay in the dorms. They were spacious and the beds were super comfortable with normal bed mattresses. The hostel was filled with young people from all over the world, most very friendly and talkative. There was a bar there where we could get drinks and food, and you could take your drinks outside, near the pool, your room, or hang out on the balcony if you didn't want to stay in the bar. The music was awesome in the bar too. There were no problems with the music being played all night as some reviews had mentioned. I believe they closed at either midnight or 12:30. The staff at the desk was also very helpful with booking day trips, taxis, etc.
The only thing I could suggest is the showers could have been a little cleaner, but I thought they were fine and just wore flip flops.
Definitely recommend it. Great facilities and just a short walk to Long street. Awesome staff! Mark and Ana, you guys are amazing, thanks heaps for all the help! Keep it up!
the vibe and availability of everything a traveller could possibly need. the security is really cool too
Very nice place to stay. Friendly staff and nice breakfast
Everything was to my satisfaction apart from the noise
Being a more "mature" traveller the only fault for me was the noise but it didn't stop me enjoying myself
proximity to town. relaxed atmosphere. good view of the mountain
roach infestation. large ones are bearable little ones on mass is an issue. kitchen staff - unfriendliest I've ever encountered in south Africa and i lived there for 27 years which is saying something
Pool-party on saturdays are great. Very relaxed atmosphere.
The staff were very friendly, the room was good an the bar has a good view over table mountain.
Our ground floor twin was small. The tiniest we'd had on our SA trip. Showers were a bit of a walk from the room. Not homely
A backpacker lodge in the middle of Cape Town that is close to a lot of restaurants and bars. If you want to meet other backpackers and hang out with them all night, this might be a good place for you.
Way too expensive for what you get. We stayed in a tiny double room with a sink. There was hardly enough space to drop our bags. Staff seemed pretty unorganized. At night it was extremely loud, so it was hard to get some sleep. Virtually the whole night there were people jumping into the pool and screaming and laughing after they returned from the bars. Actually, a sign in the hotel asked for silence after midnight but nobody gave a s.... We stayed in another place in the same area where we payed only 15$US more but had a private bath room, air con, breakfast included, four times bigger room, view to the table mountain and a whole lot more service ...
the pool mountain view beautiful building
the noise at evening, night en early morning, no towels included very big hostel free wifi, not internet staff very slow
