Lovely comfortable bed, cool house (important in the area), great breakfast
Very poor coffee - having to leave the room to make a cup first thing in the morning wasn't ideal (not the end of the world, obviously!) and the fact that the toilet is effectively in a shower cubicle right in the bedroom was really quite unpleasant and not quite what one thinks of when one thinks of an en suite!
Our two-day stay in Auberge Alouette, a charming and cosy house centrally located in Franschhoek close to the shops and restaurants, was very enjoyable. We had a lovely ground-floor room, with kitchenette and shower-room, that opened onto the lovely pool/rear garden. Excellent breakfasts were served in a central dining room.
Our only complaint was that we were not provided with a spare toilet roll and had to ask for one on each day when the single roll was running out – an unnecessary and embarrassing annoyance!!
Excellent location only a few yards away from the main street of Franschhoek.
Breakfast rather limited - and served margarine instead of butter.
Well taken care of,close proximity to great restaurants, homely, spotless, very comfortable bed and lovely breakfast.
Very very noisy discussions outside my bedroom window till 3 in the morning. Eventually had to get ip and ask people to be quiet. The manager was part of the party!?
Very friendly hostess. Central location near all restaurants.
Bathroom very much part of the bedroom.plastic screen only separate toilet from bed.
Lovely owners. Very helpful and can't do enough to make you feel at home. Very comfortable room. Absolutely prime location for a very short walk into the lovely town of Franschhoek or to visit the wineries. Wifi is free and the fastest I've encountered during my stay in SA. Excellent value for money compared with other places.
A little bit odd that the toilet and shower are tiny add on cubicles in the bedrooms but this was fine by us.
Didn't like the toilet in the bedroom
Hospitable comfortable and the cold plunge pool was excellent on those hot days.
Bed linen and towels clean
Did not like cheap toilet paper and margarine on table for breakfast. Not easy access to pool
Good location to village. Owners were helpful and friendly
A loo in the bedroom...hardly and ensuite. One dining room table for all guests was squashed and not personal
Our first visit to Franschhoek with friends, we enjoyed our stay immensely- cosy quaint guesthouse with all the comforts to make our stay memorable - thanks again Elbie for the special breakfast you left us the day we had to leave early for our flight back!
My daughter and I loved the beds and the excellent outlay of the bedrooms! The staff were a joy and the manager an utter darling! Thank you for a lovely stay!
We loved everything!
Facilities Breakfast Staff Old and very tired
We really liked the proximity to the main road and attractions, stone's throw from the main road restaurants and wine tram ticket office.
Seating arrangements at the breakfast table was strange, it was cramped and not enough attention given to the guests. Coffee was really poor quality, and the terrible music put me off my mediocre eggs and canned fruit. Really disappointing breakfast.
Very good accomodation, nice, big rooms. Vers friendly people. Very reasonable priced. Close to the town's center.
Very comfortable room and friendly owners who gave us some very helpful advice on particular places to visit while we were here.

Internet was provided but did not work
Alet and Albie were delightful hosts, extremely friendly and information was given with much enthusiasm. Loved Alet's piano performance!
The friendliness and welcoming of the owners & staff. Charm & warmth of the guest house. The personal attention, without being over-bearing. Absolutely enjoyed our stay & celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary in Franschhoek.
Guest house manageress is extremely friendly. She goes out of her way to make you feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The guest house was very clean and beds extremely comfortable. We will make use of the guest house again.
Friendly staff and good breakfast
The room, including the kitchen and bathroom, was very cold and the heating provided insufficient. I cannot recommend it for winter stay. Room was also not serviced.
Poor heating, and toilet/shower in bedroom
Fantastic location, only metres away from the main road. Very friendly owner and lovely breakfast. All very clean.
the bed was comfortable
lack of heating very cold and dark rooms didn't like toilet in bedroom no room to pull up underwear without opening door one likes privacy at certain times also the dark lounge was not at all inviting as was cold I visited my daughter across the way to a bright warm house
