Service Spacious room Beautiful gardens
Location a few minutes further to walk than ideal
Excellent service from owner(Justin) and his staff. Very relaxing and beautiful garden within walking distance of centre of town
Fantastic staff, spotless and tasteful suites and beautiful gardens surrounded by exquisite views. The food was delicious and Justin and his staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable and we're very helpful in suggesting and booking various outings for us. Will be back for sure.
This was our first time visiting Franschhoek, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to stay than Avondrood Guest House. Justin was a fantastic host – from making sure the stay was perfect to helping with winery and restaurant recommendations. On our first night, we arrived later than anticipated, around 7:30 pm. Justin greeted us and explained that since the best local restaurants typically booked up early in the day, he had taken the liberty of making an 8pm reservation for us at one of his favorite restaurants. That restaurant, The French Connection, and his recommendation for the following evening, Ryan’s Kitchen, were both fantastic choices. Justin clearly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The location of the guest house is ideal, as it’s only a block or two to walk into the main part of town. The rooms are lovely, and there is a beautiful patio for breakfast. The grounds feel like a small relaxation retreat – beautiful landscaping, pool, and hot tub. Our trip to South Africa was amazing across the board, but this was the most difficult place to leave. Two nights was not enough.
A little piece of paradise in Franshoeck. Perfect location for wandering into town for all the fab shops and restaurants. And a beautiful garden to recover in after a day wine tasting!
Warmth and helpfulness of Anne and Bruce, not just while at Underberg but in all the many e-mails before in planning our visit to Cape Town. All amenities, breakfast too..... a great choice!
Loved it all
The location and quality of rooms
The central location Quiet surroundings Wonderful staff Amazing rooms Children friendly
The historical dutch building is renovated at highest standards, the interior colors, materials and furniture create a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Recommended with no limitations.
We had the family room and it was extremely spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The breakfast was great and the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Highly recommend it as a place to discover the area
Picturesque and very charming B&B to rest and explore Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine yards. Plenty of good restaurants in walking distance. Beautiful surroundings. Justin and his crew will make sure you are satisfied. Excellent beds and the same goes for the breakfast. You won't be dissappointed.
Nothing at all.
We found good ratings online for the Avondrood B&B, and decided to book three nights. This turned out to be one of the best decisions we made when planning our honeymoon!! The place is absolutely beautiful! We felt like every single detail was thought through. It’s clear that the owners truly care about the property and the guests’ experience. Justin & Caine, the owners, were amazing. Justin who also runs the place has been highly attentive to us and the other guests, checking that everybody is doing well and help making plans for every day that we stayed there. The atmosphere was terrific and we found ourselves just hanging out for hours in the B&B’s lounge (nice living room with a fire place and a great bar with large screen), talking to the owners and just having fun. We stayed at the “SAFARI” room, which was the most beautiful room we’ve stayed in during our honeymoon. The breakfast was also the best we had during the trip! Everything was so well organized, fresh and really inviting! Don’t skip the cinnamon swirls!! :) We definitely recommend the place!
Everybody and everything there was awesome!!! We love it!!
- Great charm - Beautiful garden - Very decorative bedroom - Extremely helpful host - Fireplace in the 'living room' - Breakfast
- The flat screen in the living room, not discrete enough.
What didn't we like? This place is simply amazing - we were made to feel like home and part of the family. Justin, the owner is so amazing and made our trip to Franschhoek one to remember. We were sad to leave. Rooms are great, breakfast was delicious, nothing not to like here!
The host is amazing, the location is perfect, and the grounds and rooms are fantastic. I will come back to franschhoek just to stay here again.
Warm welcome from all the staff. Great room overlooking a very neat and tidy garden, which in itself looked over the mountains surrounding Franschoek. Well located for town attractions. Justin very helpful with making any bookings and eating suggestions. Fabulous breakfast with the biggest croissants I have ever seen. Enjoyed a nice pot of tea made for us by Leslie after our return from the day long wine tasting by the tram.
Very welcoming owners, gave us so muxh advice for pur future trip. The guest house is peaceful, tranquil and luxurious. Beautiful garden. Excellent breakfast. Highly recommend this place for a memorable visit. Thank you Justin!
Wonderful and helpful staff
Great room, great atmosphere, great breakfast, walking distance to town and all amenities.
Shower ran out of hot water with just two people showering which is a real issue in cold weather.
Justin and Lesley's hospitality, friendliness and knowledge of the area to help us plan our outings. The magnificent fire to cuddle up around and meet other guests. The scrumptious homemade breakfasts! The beautiful decor throughout!
We stayed at Avondrood Guest House on our last night of a month long visit in the Western Cape and wish we had booked longer! We were warmly welcomed by Lesley and treated to a pot of tea next to the roaring fire in the lovely lounge/dining/bar area. The minute I entered Avondrood I felt relaxed. The garden area is very special and an unexpected, secret space with fabulous views of the mountains. The decor throughout the hotel is of a very high quality with calming tones of beiges, creams and chocolate browns and wherever you go in the hotel the attention to detail is evident with beautiful mirrors, large candles and bowls of oranges/lemons and vases of flowers. In the family suite, doors open onto an extensive verandah with fantastic mountain views. The family suite was perfect for us as a family of four with two children aged 12 and 18. The main bedroom is well appointed with beautiful bed-linen, cosy blanket and cushions. There is ample room with a desk, wardrobe and a dressing table with mirror. The children shared a large twin room - also well appointed, also with high-quality bed-linen. The main bathroom was fitted beautifully, with a rain shower, roll top bath, twin basins and lovely bath products. Unfortunately we didn't make as much use of the little lounge and fireplace as we would have liked to. After we had settled into our room, owner, Justin came to meet us. A genuine, lovely, family man who was a pleasure to talk to. We had drinks outside in the tranquil garden setting before going in to Franshoek for dinner. Justin showed my son, Ben, the constellations and named stars for him. This was a real holiday highlight! Breakfast was superb and Justin opened the farmhouse kitchen early for us as we needed to travel to the airport. The buffet was served in the farmhouse kitchen, a beautiful room, with the breakfast tables set up in the lounge/dining area with the roaring fire.
Justin had great vineyard and restaurant recommendations, and great wildlife knowledge as a former guide! Best breakfast we had in South Africa (I will dream of those cinnamon pastries for years to come). Nice garden, well decorated & spacious room, and welcoming common area. Heated bathroom floors were delightful. Convenient location for either driving to vineyards or walking to the tram. Secure off-street parking and wifi were available. Highly recommend!
If you need a silent room, this remodeled historic house wouldn't be the place--you do get some room-to-room noise but this was made up for in EVERY other aspect of our stay!
Welcoming host. Warm lounge and great fire place. Willingness to help with bookings etc. fantastic breakfast and wines from the bar.
What a excellent surprise! Just a few minutes walk from the center this guest house was superb. Staff was super friendly, beautiful gardens with pool and jacuzzi, and the room was lovely and romantic. We stayed here on our last night in SA and left very happy indeed.
Nothing. Overall stellar stay.
