Limited street parking

the rooms were not being cleaned, i guess its because we always locked it, but there should have been a way. there was no variety of otions for breakfast, in case you dont want to do it yourself. parking on the street was a bit nerve wrecking, especially for a rented car, you may need to look at alternatives for a fee of course
The staff are extremely nice. its a "at home feeling comfort kind of feeling" place. internet

On the first night a girl was in our room who wasn't supposed to be but it was unsure who wasn't supposed to be there, so I didn't have a bed and spent half an hour trying to figure it out without waking up everyone in the dorm. The staff gave me a private room for that night but it was a long night and not a great start to the stay!
Lovely staff, nice big space and rooms

The staff at reception did not make a good impression on the first day. Not hospitable at all.

It's a shame that people in hostels more and more just stick to their phones... but this isn't the fault of the Big blue at all :)
Loved having a private room, and then the shared facilities when needed

Great location, shops and restaurants are close by (try Nü). Thanks to Kumi in reception for the friendly welcome and the advice on where to go!

Some staff unhappy and came across as abrupt and rude, huge effort to assist us.
We liked the location and the all the restaurants around the corner

Bare necessities like cutlery, kitchen utensils, drinking glasses were the bare minimum to none existent. Some of it was of the lowest quality - chipped mugs, NO glasses etc. For a backpackers that does not serve meals (apart from a optional breakfast cereal) the utensils necessary for its occupants to self-cater is absolutely far below the minimum standard.
Location excellent. Relatively clean.

Some maintenance is required to the building and would make it look much better inside
Reception is excellent always there to assist you.

The hostel was booked for a stay by a group of three young artists from Zimbabwe. They discovered that the hotel treated them with disregard and condescension, clearly on the basis of race. For example, when they needed to change rooms, hostel staff entered their room without permission, so on return they found their luggage and possessions like laptops lying in the corridor. The staff and management were at pains to make them feel uncomfortable e.g. turning off the common room light, when they were playing pool, without asking them if they were finished and making suggestion about what people like "them" can and can't afford to eat or do.

It was a nice place, beautifully located under signal hill, nice restaurants around, easy to reach all intresting places in capetown. The room was nice, very good beds, but its better to book a room with shower. Parking was available and secured.
