The people made my stay, all the staff are fantastic, as well all of them that stayed there just rock... people tend to stuck there like me too, had a booking for 5 nights and ended up an entire month, and believe me i ll be back!!! :) there is a bar, and there is a comfy outside area, even the 10bed is space full! they have sometimes bbq or dinners where the people get together before heading out :) had so many good nights out can't even recall all of them :) if you like meeting people u will be on the right place :)
Very helpful staff, always ready to answer any of my stupid questions. Surprisingly comfortable bunkbeds. Excellent places to eat right around the corner.
Sometimes a bit noisy guests late at night, but then again I'm over 30, so perhaps I shouldn't be staying at a backpackers if I want to be sleeping before midnight :)
staff are raised by wolves
Undertechnologized: Extremely slow WiFi, excruciatingly slow, almost unuseable in rooms, not much better in public spaces. Connections routinely drop, VOIP calls were impossible, half the time I could not even open a simple email using just basic HTML. Routinely bumped off the WiFI every couple hours, and of course this can occur, say while you’re buying airline tickets. Continuous password log-ons required. Took 10 -15 minutes to upload one photo. Forget about updating software or apps or downloading podcasts. Complete all time-critical online tasks before arriving here. Uncommunicative: CT Backpackers extracted 1/2 the fee using an unidentified 3rd party travel agency, and when I queried them what is going on, I got NO RESPONSE. Unsustainable: There are no recycle bins in the kitchen, organic, aluminum, paper, tins, nothing, it all goes in the trash at Cape Town Backpackers. Sink faucets drip. There are no individual lights above dorm beds, so the entire room has to be lit with multiple bulbs when one enters the room. Unsafe: The stone stairs leading down to the kitchen are slippery when wet. There is no sign to tell you that. If you’re lucky you will not slip and fall five steps like I did after one rainstorm, since these steps are outdoors and the near useless canvas canopy does not keep the stone steps dry. Unsecure: No room lockers. Dorm room doors do not automatically lock and ofter remain open. The small lockers for valuables were absolutely useless. A guy getting checked into my dorm opened my topmost ‘A’ lockbox with his ‘non-A’ key. DO NOT STORE ANYTHING VALUABLE IN THESE ‘SO-CALLED’ ROOM SAFES. Inadequate facilities: no chairs in dorms, a beat up couch outside. Inadequate power outlets in dorms. Kitchen looks like cockroach heaven. Not enough frig space or baskets for food for those using them. Everything was full when I arrived. You have to walk outdoors through the rain to get to and from the kitchen.
staff very friendly and helpful
poor wifi and cold showers
The room price was affordable and overall it was clean.
Our car for broken into even after asking if there was a secure place to park the car and if there was a curfew. After being told there was no curfew the parking lot was locked when we arrived back before 9 pm. We stayed in a communal dorm but the people were very inconsiderate to others in the room talking and making noise at all hours. There were others in the communal dorm that were sick and allowed to stay in such a space leading to my partner and I getting sick. If travellers are sick they should have the decency to get a private room. There are no plugs or mirrors in the room and there is no communal area to change other than in the cramped bathroom or in the dorm room which would wake everyone up. I had to end up drying my hair in the kitchen as it was the only place I could find a plug point.
Very helpful nice staff!
Excellent location, walking distance to shops, bars & restaurants.
Location is good, very close to long street. Where you can find restaurants, supermarkets etc. In Woolworth down stairs there is laundry for 15 rand per kilo. Bed linens clean and fresh!
Staff could not be bothered, we did not feel welcome at all! It was hard to get any information about anything we tried to ask. They did not even know price for laundry service they are offering. Staff made this one of the worst hostel experience ever. (We have been travelling 1.5 years around the world so that says a lot). Hostels are usually nice place to feel welcome and get good information about surrounding places.
The people, the location
I slept in a dorm, where around 3 in the morning two young men arrived, drunk, and starting a loud and lively conversation.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed.
Breakfast was 45 mins late opening so I had to miss it to leave on time. Room was very cramped.
Hostel provides a private parking space.
Cramped and not really clean place.
The staff were great and helpful. The beds were clean and comfy. Was a busy social place. Quite a far walk down to the waterfront but is ok.
Great kitchen and safe location
Creeky wooden floors
The 24hr reception, cold beer on arrival, hot shower and clean comfortable bed, inexpensive breakfast by a friendly lady. At reception I was given the Wi - Fi code and prefered taxi service that was cost effective. Thank you Johannes
I loved every moment there! Thank you so much! It was really a great evening at Cape Town Backpackers! Thanks to the amazing staff... Wow, you guys really made me feel right at home!
Clean white linnen. Tv room,built-inn couches with lots of cushions.
Would have liked to have a locker in the room that I can lock my valuables in.
Excellent really helpful staff, great value, overall a really good experience.
Nothing bad to say
Friendly helpful staff, clean room and great vibe
They forgot to give me my key deposit back :(
The efficient way on settling me down arranging the taxi all awesome splendid job well done
The times at the loo, there was no toilet paper it's only fair for management to check up on these & be proactive, however must commend the African who assisted me so efficiently
The location was good. Lockers in the room.
That's too busy. And it was too expensive. I paid 400 rands for a bedroom with 4 persons! with no view and nothing special.
friendly staff, fun atmosphere, basic but clean rooms, fantastic location
the wifi didnt reach the rooms, too many big insects
did not provide with single beds as requested.
The location is great - it is within reach of the major tourist attractions: Table Mountain, VA Waterfront, Long Street, etc etc... The Red touring bus has a stop just less than 500 metres from the backpackers... I could easily walk at night without meeting any unsavoury characters on the streets. I loved it so much I already made a booking for my next visit to Cape Town in April. Oh, and did I mention how cheap the beers are at this place?!
hmmm, let me think. My dislikes had nothing to do with the place itself rather some of the patrons I was sharing my space with. So, this is irrelevant really.
