First ever safari so we did not know what to expect. From arrival to departure staff made us welcome and could not do enough for us. Game drives were excellent and the Rangers were fantastic. Rooms and food were faultless. I would highly recommend Elephant Plains.

Lovely experience, went above and beyond with the game drives. The room was tranqual and very relaxing.

The pillows were really uncomfortable.

Excellent game drives. Our guide Morne was fabulous. Up close to rhinos, elephants, lions and leopards.
March 26, 2015
The meals were marginal, some of the staff (not the rangers or spotters who were excellent) had an 'attitude'. Charges for water and soft drinks (in 200 ml cans!) gave an impression of pettiness. A poorly operating toilet was never properly fixed. A shame because with a little effort the place could be outstanding.
The wildlife viewing was good, the rooms generally comfortable although the linens were less than they should have been.

Absolutely nothing to fault, at all
From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were so well looked after. Brilliant game drives, wonderful food, beautiful accommodation - they even had our favourite beer! We only stayed 2 day but we did and saw so much - best safari lodge we have been to.

Signs need improvement very confusing should point in actual directions and no entry signs need to be put up. The buffet style eating is not a preference of mine. For such an amazing lodge you should have a to order menu or at least specials from a menu. I just hate buffets not befitting a lodge of your class.
Stayed for one night saw the big five on first game drive (rather lucky). Lion kill next day and then to top it off huge leopard crosses the road when driving out! 4 different leopards in less than 24 hrs two prides of lions rhinos elephants buffalo hyena. Rooms fantastic game Rangers great Louis is a star!

Vegetarian food was a bit of challenge even though the staff was courteous enough to make a dish or two specifically for us in every meal.
The location of the lodge was just amazing! We spotted the big 5 and also managed to sight the cheetah and a wild dog hunt. And so was the staff. Super friendly and amazingly courteous.. just what you need to make your trip awesome when youre already having a great time. :)

We were "offered" a drink as part of our afternoon game drive, only to discover that they charged us for it on our bill upon checkout. For such a luxurious lodge, this seemed to be in very poor taste, particularly since we were booked in the honeymoon suite (most expensive room), and I had informed them it was my husband's birthday. Clearly it's not about the cost of the glass of wine, but the approach. Being honest with the guests and not misleading them into thinking they are being offered something, when In fact they're being sold something.
Game drives were amazing, lodge was very comfortable, food was delicious. Our suite was spectacular. Wish we could have stayed longer!

The dinner was not ok on the first day when we had barbecue. All the meat was well done and dry. The second day it was a platted menue which was ok but not exceptional. They are refurbishing the deck which is very noisy. They are trying to reduce it to the times of the game drives, but if you are not taking part of them, there is no possibility to have a quiet time. For that much money I expected to be more taken care of and treated as a valuable guest. I had the feeling that they do their job but do not really care about the guests.
The lodge and the accomodation is really very nice. The chalets have mostly a great view to a wide area and a water hole which is illuminated by night. The breakfast and lunch was very nice and set out as a buffet. The game drives and the game walk were very good. We had a really experienced ranger and tracker who were also very nice.

Struggle to think of anything negative about our experience at Elephant Plains.
From the minute we arrived we were made welcome and looked after with a focus on showing us as many different animals within the park, and a comfortable, relaxed time at the lodge. Louis and Thomas were our ranger and tracker, managed to show us the "Big Five" plus many more over a period of four days that we spent at the lodge. Both were experienced, knowledgable, and very friendly. On one of the evening drives, we followed a pack of African wild dogs that stalked and took down an Impala. All part of life, and death, in this part of the World. The accomadation and meals at the lodge were first class, and a special "thank you"' to Remember and the rest of the staff, for their extra attention during meals.

The food was awful, very little choice and really not good at all. If you arrive by car the road from Acornhoek is shockingly bad (not their fault but be aware, also the police will try to shake you down, again not their fault) Take the longer scenic route from Lydenburg
The tracker and ranger where great. The front desk where friendly, Walter is very nice. Nice clean rooms, the facilities are good.

Within the first two days we had seen the big five. It was fantastic! The staff are amazing and make you feel very welcome. I would recommend this lodge to anyone. Word of advice, try to get the Lion, Buffalo or Leopard rooms. They all have a great view of the water hole and a large open area at the back where you can see abundant wild life.

Don't have much, if I had to pick one, no wifi in our room, but that's very minor. Also if you're coming from Kruger I recommend taking the Orpen Gate route rather than driving outside of Kruger. That experience wasn't fun, but that's not on Elephant Plains Lodge. They are amazing!
The staff was amazing from the beginning. Super attentive to every little detail from, having refreshments ready on arrival, to blankets and heating pads on early morning drives. They even washed our car which we didn't notice until we left.

Elephant plains is ideal for a visit to the Kruger park and for spotting the big five. We really enjoyed it.
