In the culinary capital of the Cape, this hotel is under the towering Franschhoek Mountains with the famous Winelands a short car ride away.

Score from 36 reviews Wonderful
With landscaped grounds, this 100-year old Victorian house offers well-furnished rooms with a DVD player and an outdoor pool with cushioned lounge chairs. It is 650 ft from the center of Stellenbosch....
Score from 153 reviews Wonderful
We always love the setting especially overlooking the lake, and the fact that you have an equipped kitchen, as well as being able to order room service in your villa.
Won't be staying here again, was quite expensive and the housekeeping wasn't great. Pity I really liked it...
Fantastic villa with amazing balcony where we were able to enjoy all the cheese ad wine we had bought at the surrounding farms. Really Big unit and very comfortable.
Location and setting are great, Dinner was good
Staff were poorly trained and not exactly friendly, no towels in the room, we had to ask 3 times until we finally got some, dirty tablecloth, no napkins and upon asking received dirty ones, tinned fruit for breakfast
Size of the room and comfort of the bed Cooked breakfast
Downgraded on check in to a room without a view and no balcony due the fact that the room we had asked for had broken airconditioning. Pool is very small Wifi only works in reception Location is not within walking distance of the town Light bulbs hanging out of the ceiling and lots of bulbs blown - not properly maintained Double room was only supplied with one towel upon check in
Simple small pool, great rooms - so spacious, the view is amazing and access to the town is easy for more great entertainment
The wifi can be a little off, the staff are lovely but sometimes the service was a little slow (but this is being overly picky!)
No one at reception when arrived except for a lady drinking wine trying to assist.special request for room that was not done. Found two single beds after requesting a double bed. Poorly trained staff. Had to wait for our room key outside the door close to 10min as it was not given to me or the porter.
We travel often, and had somewhat high expectations of this establishment given location and the brief given on its website. The "pool" is really just a large jacuzzi in a dark, cold spot of the two floor apartment, and was filthy! It was described on the website as an "outdoor" pool - the only part correct about that is that it is outside. We arrived on Christmas day, and the receptionist failed to mention that the kitchen was not open for dinner, and if we needed to order anything it would have been nice of her to mention it when we checked in at about 3.30. There was no key for the bottom door leading to the "pool", and despite numerous calls to the same receptionist, it failed to materialize until the next morning when we quite literally pitched a fit. Service was appalling, quality of food even worse...we are not that fussy, but having made an escape to Franschoek for our first overnight trip in the 8 years we have been coming to Cape Town, we were fairly disappointed. The "manager" did not show up once to check that service was efficient and smooth...not really sure what it is a manager would other wise do as it certainly is not in the upkeep of the rooms. Carpets could do with a shampoo, cobwebs behind the bedside table...really not as good as it looks on the photos, talk about false advertising!
Stunning location with views to die for. Villas elegantly decorated, spacious and luxurious.
Service at restaurant was slow, food quality and options to improve, no vegetarian menus, the restaurant brings down the rating of this lovely venue
we asked for black pepper at breakfast and was told by the waitress that it couldn't be found. We requested a fan for the bedroom as the air conditioner wasn't working. It didn't arrive. Neither did anyone come to check the aircon as they had gone off duty!
great breakfast, large spacious rooms, well laid out staff generally helpful
too few channels on TV, front desk clerk not well informed
Attention to detail and comfort. Food was excellent, three stars chef! Young personnel , but efficient! Compliments!
Location Decor Views
Food was awful, worst in SA on a 10 day trip Room was barricaded by a meeting on second night (no access to own room!) and then blocked in again in the morning (no exit) Staff loves to make ALOT of noise starting about 6.30am, so don't expect to sleep in Very sad because location and facilities are lovely.
The room was poorly maintained & drawers & cupboards dirty. Kitchen equipment sparse. Allotted parking space always occupied. Very poor value for the amount paid. Service slow in restaurant at breakfast.
Design, aesthetics were good. French feel to it was amazing
Am tall, bed was a bit short
Location is good.
Breakfast was shocking as was the level of service. The attention to details one would expect from such an establishment was completely lacking, given the cost. Had a second booking for November , but have canceled it.
The villa was stunning, with amazing views
The kettle didn't work
Nice big room, bathroom great!
Staff was not well trained
Beds and linen very comfortable, rooms very spacious.
There are no dressing tables with an electric socket and mirror, so for women it is very difficult to do hair and make-up. I wanted to use my own hairdryer and hair straightener, but had to plug it in somewhere else in the room with no mirror to see what I was doing.
Dirty linen, cold water, damp and moldy walls.
Toilet seat was broken Curtains wasn't hooked in all the hooks (looked unprofessional) Duvet cover couldn't close (something wrong with the clips) The food was average
L'Ermitage is an absolutely stunning place to stay, I wish we could have stayed longer.
The luxuriousness and tranquillity. The staff were friendly and the service excellent.
The aircons weren't working in the suites and the villas could do with some maintenance.
Rooms were stunning. Food was very good!!
No stock of wines Then we ordered gin and tonic. No tonic. My husband ordered cooldrink. No stock Othrwise excellent
Staff service was great Location, although a bit out of town, still close to centre of town
Requested wheelchair accessible villa - confirmed two days prior to arrival by phone. Arrived around 3:15pm to find allocated 1st floor villa - repositioned to a ground villa which had not been used for a long time. Phone did not work, floors dirty, no dressing gowns or face cloths, fridge did not work and flooded kitchen. More importantly there was no lighting immediately outside the unit which was very dark in the evening as well as no lighting of the walkway to the drive and on to the main building with the restaurant. Limited lighting for wheelchair access to the restaurant by way of steep ramp.
No DSTV decoder No salt and pepper in self-catering Breakfast took extremely long. I was done with breakfast before my partners food arrived
