The owner, Heather, was delightful company - ready for a chat and helpful with information on local wine estates. The accommodation was very comfortable and quiet, with the bonus of uninterrupted views to the mountains. In the evening we sat on the terrace with a glass of wine and watched the mountains change colour during sunset.
This place is simply amazing. Value for money, friendly staff and the best views and breakfast! Thank you Kim and Heather for our stay!
Quiet ambience, impressive mountain view, fresh and healthy breakfast, very kindly hosts (with good tips and recommendations for your stay), relaxed and friendly staff. The city centre, a mall and a few wine estates are quite near on foot. The room was clean and well appointed (for a house built in 1818). If you enjoy the charm of a personal managed accommodation without lacking time on your own, you are at the right place!
Nothing really - except the bed was too soft for me. But that is a matter of taste.
Heather, staff, accessibility, mountain views
Very slow bread toaster (minor)
Lovely surroundings and close to everything around. Stunning! The owners are hugely welcoming too, as are their doggies! :)
While the location of my room was perfect, the cleanliness of the sheets were in question and the room just needed a refresh. Otherwise, lovely.
Fantastic place with a beautiful view over the vineyards and mountains. Top hospitality! Perfect place from where you can start to visit the winelands or do a mountainbike tour... A guesthouse to recommend and we hope to come back in a few years. That's for sure ;-)
Breathtaking views, Very friendly, relaxed staff! An excellent place to stay!
We were two ladies on business and just loved our rooms! We had a Cape Dutch styled cottage with two separate rooms with fabulous bathrooms. Sitting on our verandah with a glass of wine, the vineyards an arm stretch away and fabulous view of the mountains in the distance. Perfect breakfast and lovely hosts. Fits our budget, thank goodness as we will be back many times for our business trips to Paarl and Cape Town.
The service from the owner was very good.Very friendly.
For us the photo's of the rooms, look very fancy. But found the upkeep of the building was poor, and there was only a shower, and no bath.
Privacy and scenic Friendly service Homely feel
Slightly limited facilities
Close to town. Close to shops & restuarants( mall) Spacious rooms
Nothing I did not like
the peace and cleanliness the manage (Kim) was excellent The accommodation was perfect The food was great
i parked my car under a tree that dripped a glue-ish substance on the car.
The breakfast and the setting for breakfast was very pleasant.
We are South Africans in the hospitality industry and our expectations were not met. We booked two rooms for three nights. Of the six rooms booked we used only one. Upon arrival we explained to the owner that the accommodation was not suitable. We asked our son not to join us and that we said that we would be checking out in the morning. My understanding, from a discussion with the owner, was that we were only going to be charged for two rooms but we were charged for all six. I certainly did not expect this as it was a public holiday period and the owner was quick to tell me how he was turning away people. It is of concern that the images on the web site do not accurately portray the facilities. The main building is in fact dark, shabby, uninviting and dominated by two large dogs. Our room had a lilac theme, shoddy furniture and office quality carpeting. It was situated at the end of the terrace and was anything but private. In our bedroom there was a locked door to another room offering little auditory privacy. The bathroom had no bath which was not acceptable to us. The water from the incomplete shower enclosure ran onto the floor. The style of the finishes was very coarse and rustic - a mismatch with the lilac bedroom. The host was very pre-occupied and seemed insincere. The parking area is unpaved and basic. The gardener/pool store is a mess and in full view. The Inn is situated on a main road with a railway line on the other side. We were very disappointed, felt mislead and poorly treated.
The warm welcome from all the staff, felt like we were part of the family. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Should be actually a 4 star rather than 3 star rating.
Fifth stay at Goedemoed in as many years. Continues to be my favorite place in South Africa, and one of the best in the world.
To keep up with the competition, satellite TV (rather than just local channels) would be nice.
Kim was an excellent host and my son really enjoyed his quick wit!
Owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good.
Guest house was being renovated so difficult to give a true impression of the place. Furnishings in the bedroom were aging.
Kim and Heather the owners where fantastic and went out of their way to welcome me. Thanks.
Nothing really - my only build would be for them to have a bar so that guests can socialise.
The relaxed feeling, view, breakfast, welcoming, everything!!!!
Attractive country setting and friendly host.
Bed was hard.
Lovely location overlooking the vinyard and the valley. Very friendly and helpful hosts, good recommendation for evening meal. Comfortable and well appointed room.
We spent four extremely enjoyable restful days and nights and given a garden room. Wi-Fi internet access is not merely good and fast, but contrary to Booking.com website statement is actually completely FREE ! You do not even have to enter a password ! Goedmoed is immediately surrounded by a working vineyard, although Owners Kim and Heather are not themselves farmers. The room had two large single beds pushed together to create a huge and comfortable king-size, so no problem there. Bearing in mind that this property was built in 1818 it follows that even the grandest dame of all would require a bit of face powder at nearly 200 years old ! The water was always piping hot. All electrical equipment worked satisfactorily. We did not suffer any power cuts, but there had been a storm a few days before which had apparently created an outage. Frankly, if you are the sort of person who prefers a characterless business chain motel block with every room in every location identical, then this is probably not for you. However, if you want to enjoy the charm of a one-off property with extremely personable owners and a great breakfast all combining to give you a relaxing and happy experience that will stay in your memory for years, then don't hesitate to book. Great breakfast with really fresh fruit - eg blueberries, apricots, strawberries as well as melon, pineapple, paw paw, bananas, kiwi, apples, oranges etc - every morning, along with cereals, cheeses, cooked to order sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes etc. We loved it and just wish that there were many more places like Goedemoed !
