What we were dissappointed in this time:
- The previous time we were there we were really made to feel at home by the staff, which was one of the reasons we returned. This time the staff were polite, but not attentive at all, and I would even say preoccupied and disregarding.
- Check in took very long as at first they couldn't find my booking and thereafter the printers and computers didn't work.
- The one staff member who was very friendly and attentive was our breakfast waitress. We felt very sorry for her though, as she was the only service staff on duty and was running herself ragged to attend to all the patrons who streamed in for breakfast. I would suggest that management increase the staff complement when they know they are going to be full.
This was our second stay at the Ikhaya Lodge, the first being quite a few years ago. Although we could see that it is time for a few renovations/upgrades again, we will always recommend this hotel for a comfortable, clean, value-for-money stay right in the center of Cape Town.
The hotel has a beautiful modern African theme throughout, and is perfectly situated in the quiet, yet trendy, Dunkley Square. Although you are right in the midst of the City, the location of the hotel, with its amazing view of Table Mountain, gives the impression that you've stepped out into a peaceful suburban neighbourhood. The rooms are small - but the prices reflect that, so you know what you are paying for. What we love are the gorgeous enclosed balconies extending from each room, with a seating area and amazing city and mountain views. For breakfast the hotel offers a continental buffet accompanied by a hot breakfast.
We often do one-night stays in Cape Town, and Ikhaya will stay on our "possible" list for these times.
