Site says wifi at some rooms, but i tested all - no wifi - only at owners house so i had to stand outside in the rain to read my mails. No supervision at breakfast. Fly in the juice. Dirty tea water. Staff did their best so cant be blamed.
Great staff, family owned/run, and run very well.
Beautiful location. Amazing view on breakfast deck. Peaceful out of town and no traffic.
Room had a bath tub only and not a shower,

Bees nest in front of bedroom window needs to be removed
Lovely facility surrounded by Knysna forests. Great breakfast.
No WiFi in room.
Really beautiful setting on Knysna River and lovely trees. Kids enjoyed their swim on a stunning pool deck. Friendly family who has made our stay pleasant. Breakfast was great, with homemade French specialities.
The food was very good. We were pleasantly surprised! The restaurant ambience is nice in the evenings.
Main door did not lock from the inside ! Spiderwebs with up to 8 spiders hanging from ceiling above beds. Doors do not stay closed including 1bathroom door! Bedroom door doesn't even have a handle! Self-catering unit - but no broom, dishcloth. Filthy skottle braai
The staff and location
When we arrived, we were taken to a "mountain lodge" or "cottage" firstly we had to walk a great distance on steps to the top. The lady at reception did not know how we could drive up close to the unit allocated to us. We were tired, having driven from Bloemfontein to knysna that day. We were told 2 bathrooms but only 1 had a toilet and the other just a shower and basin. The door to the shower had no latch. The main bedroom could not close. There was a stone behind the door to hold it close. I have a daughter in Knysna and she was coming over to visit us and to bring our meals for the evening. We just lazed around. The TV was not working initially but was corrected. The place had spider webs and insects. Very very poor standard of kitchen equipment and utensils. The bigger shock was when my daughter and her family left we opened the beds to sleep. To our dismay, the sheets were in a very poor condition full of stains etc. we removed the sheets and replaced it with blankets and made do with available coverings for the night. When we tried to complain we got answers like coz it is in the forest you will have to live the insects and spider webs. We asked about the filthy condition about the sheets and the responded by saying that the dampness from the forest causes this. Personally I walked away from the situation because I got sick and was spewing during the night and was rather angry. My family digested that I ho to my daughter whilst they speak with management to either resolve the issue or attempt to seek a refund for the coming night. They changed our unit and we were able to spend the next night there. We drove on to Cape town from there. Even the kids were awake early to get away from there. A family of five ready packed and handed keys before 7am. For R2000.00 a night, it's not an option.
All stated above
Poor service, quality of rooms not great, poor breakfast and overall value for money was poor. The room we were allocated looked nothing like the Internet image
The owner Remy was very helpful. The waitress Naziva was also very helpful.
We had to pinch ourselves when we realised we were staying here! Under the new ownership/management the lodge is thriving. The property is stunning and has the best view of the lagoon. The pool was pristine. The staff are thoughtful and engaging. Remy even took us for a walk around to show us the private forest on the property. The food at Die Gieter (the restaurant on the property) was beyond delicious and comes HIGHLY recommended. Do yourself a favour and stay here. Remy, Catherine and Vincent are incredible hosts!
Bit far from Knysna town itself but good if you want some peace and quiet!
Rooms were spotless and loved the flower pettals scatteredin the room. Everything worked no noise from the road.Owners were extremely helpfull and so sociable and the food was superb.
We had a most enjoyable stay. The staff was very friendly and the owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The restaurant meals including breakfast were excellent.
There was no-one available for check-in when we arrived.
Loved the setting, the history and the French Couple who own the place!!
Delightful French couple Remi and Catherine are the new owners and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were newly refurbished and the forested setting provides a beautiful and tranquil backdrop. From the restaurant called "Die Gieter" one has beautiful views of the Knysna Lagoon. Breakfast which was included with the room, was a generous English breakfast (bacon, eggs, sausage and toast) with cereals, fresh juice, yoghurt, coffee and tea. Other meals were a la carte and an interesting mix of old favourite South African dishes as well as some emphasizing the French heritage of Remi and Catherine. Prices were very reasonable on all meals and the public support for the restaurant even out-of-season is evidence of the locals' approval of good food at good prices.
The tv in the room was not working and only a poor vision of SABC 3. No DSTV or sports channels, you are forced to join the crown in the lobby to whach the rugby which was very annoying and loud or were forced to go to another venue to watch sport which defeated the object of a quiet weekend.
