Boasting a splendid setting between mountains and sea, this charming Provençal style guesthouse is set in historic central Hermanus, overlooking the picturesque Old Harbor.

Score from 91 reviews Wonderful
Perfect place to go whale watching. We had a lovely walk into Hermanus seeing many whales. The room was extremely comfortable and clean. Our host was helpful and the breakfasts were fabulous!
We just wished we'd been able to book a room on the first floor facing the sea.....this would have made our stay perfect.
Lavender everywhere! The views from the honeymoon suite were incredible. We saw whales everyday, while having a morning coffee. It was also quite close to the beach and one of the ends of the cliff path. This was a great place I would love to return to.
the owner are very kind, the room was beautiful, the bed was big and very comfortable. It was a very pleasant stay
wi fi connection didn't work
Lovely very helpful hosts, delicious breakfast, absolutely gorgeously decorated and furnished enormous room, excellent local restaurant nearby, convenient for coastal path
The view was a massive disappointment. We had chosen the room as it was advertised as having panoramic sea views. We were however three rows of houses back from the sea and the owners house was dead in the middle blocking most of the view
My wife, children and I really enjoyed our stay, the hospitallity and comfort was over and abve our expectations. From the amazing rooms, chocolate mints to the wonderful home made breakfasts. We will definatly come again.
The warmth and hospitality and delicious breakfast and special touches such as sweets placed at various junctures and the qelcome sherry.
The shower was not powerful enough.
After complaining about the family room, we were offered a new room.
The family room was old, outdated, dusty and cold. The wifi reception in the other rooms is not so good.
Lovely clean and comfortable room with beautiful comfy bedding. Bathroom very clean with big soft towels and nice bath and shower. Great breakfast with a very good selection of food. After cereals cold meats and cheese etc. a really good cooked english breakfast as well. Lovely views from our room of the mountains and the sea.
The house is very cold and although the hosts put on the underfloor heating in the bar area it was still not comfortable to sit in and we had to retreat to our room where we put on the room heater for some warmth. Very poor TV selection in the room with only a few channels available and although this may not be a problem in the summer i do believe to be visiting in the colder months this becomes more important. Also in the bar area/ lounge maybe a TV or some piped music to make the place more welcoming.
Management and staff are very helpful and friendly. Very tastefully decorated. Very good and tasty breakfast. Finer details like fresh flowers on dining tables and in rooms.
Beautiful views, close to the beach, and run by wonderful hosts. The house is also in a very peaceful, quiet street. I will definitely be going back again.
Friendly hosts. Well appointed room with great view. Easy parking off road. Wonderful breakfast. Close to the beach but quiet location
very pretty and comfortable large room. very nice breakfast - well presented and served, with sufficient variety, and good quality food. owners and hosts were very friendly, informative and helfpul.
No aircon in the room. it could do with one.
Everything from the tasteful decor to the superb breakfasts (better than a 5* hotel) and everything in between. The little touches are what makes it; for instance when you get back after a day out there is a basket of apples and you can help yourself at no charge, rusks every day on your coffee tray, mini nougat available as you pass to your room, an honesty bar and great lounge/outside balcony for viewing whales. Isabel is knowledgeable about the area and shares her likes with you, both drives, shops and food. It is well situated and you could walk to the beach and there are many small beautiful beaches in the area. Isabel and Kobus were charming hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful week there and would definitely stay there again. Staff are well trained and pleasant. We went in March which is great month weather-wise, but will return in whale-watching season as Hermanus is beautiful and so clean and tidy
Lavender Manor is some sort of "Pension" and managed by the owners, a white couple aged in their late 50s. Over a handful of black staff are helping with maintenance, cleaning, breakfast preparation etc. The house is quite big, well maintained and decorated and looks very good. It is located at the eastern outskirts of Hermanus. You need a car if you lodge there. They serve a quite good western style breakfast, but for lunch and dinner you have to walk or drive 500 m to the "Strandbar", who serve warm food, or to a nearby 1 km distant restaurant, which is operated by people who lived many years in Indochina. Our room looked old stylish and we liked that. Probably it was the largest one. I would go there again. There is a large living room or common room upstairs with a "honesty bar" where they trust you that you write down what you consume. It has a large balcony there. It is very comfortable. Parking place for your car is free, there is a small pool behind the house, there is a large garden, WiFi worked ok, staff was quite friendly. Maybe the owners should equip the doors to the guest rooms with modern keys and lockers, just for safety. Notwithstanding that I felt safe all the time. The house is in a safe upper class neighbourhood, I believe. There is a bakery store nearby 300 m distant. The beach is maybe 400 - 500 m away from the house. When you come in the whale season, this is the best place to stay. Too bad we were not there in the whale season; we had a fantastic view over the entire bay. The other guests were mostly in their late age 60 and above, only one couple may have been in their mid to late 30s, maybe early 40s. When I go to Hermanus, I will go to Lavender Manor again.
I have to say the lodge is quite far away from the centre of the town, but in a residential neighbourhood. But the place is not a loud tourist place, so this is a plus. When my internet did not work and I complained, I had the feeling that I was blamed for malfunctioning. If I was the owner or manager of a hotel, I would first feel sorry to the guest about problems with Wifi, irrespective who is actually to blame. After a couple of trials and adjustments internet access worked ok. Still, I will go to this place again. I consider it a good deal with overall pleasant experience.
This was the most expensive stay outside Cape Town. Superb guest house. Good sea view, must be great in whale watching season. Very likely to return.
- Very welcoming & helpful hosts. Booked a restaurant for us & arranged transport too - Room was IMMACULATE. Decorated with new furniture & linens but still with a lovely 'colonial' feel. - Bathroom was SPOTLESS, with lovely complimentary toiletries & huge, luxury cotton bath towels. - Views from the terrace are fantastic. A great place to have a sundowner. - Breakfast was DELICIOUS. The only guesthouse we stayed at who offered a cooked breakfast at no extra cost.
- Our private terrace was great, but would have been nice to have a little privacy. The addition of some low/mid level 'screening' around the balcony to obscure the facing rooms whilst yet still allowing the wonderful mountain view would have been welcomed & would have allowed us to enjoy the terrance a bit more. - Felt there was no need for the 2 chairs & table in the room. They took up valuable space & it was a little difficult to negotiate around them & our 2 suitcases.
We were looked after really well from the moment we arrive until we left 5 days later. All the staff were really friendly and the facilities were excellent.
Crickets were in season when we were there and a few got into our room - leading to a search and destroy mission to re-establish the peace of Lavender Manor.
Excellent location outsite the main center of Hermanus
Liked the balcony and upstairs room
We booked and paid for a room on the first floor so hoped to have fantastic sea or mountain views as boasted on their website. However when we got there, we were given a ground floor room that faced the car park and had no views!! What a disappointment and felt cheated! Do not book the family room here. It is nothing like the rest of their rooms!
Delicious breakfast Wonderful common room and balcony area for relaxing Very hospitable hosts Comfy beds
Our room was smelly and the floors/rugs in the room were very slippery.
WIFI in the room is weak.
Lovely bedroom and bathroom. Beautifully furnished. Very good breakfast catering for the health conscious and not just those wanting a massive cholesterol laden breakfast.
No wifi in the guest extension accommodation. This is essential for visitors to forward research and book accommodation, restaurants etc. Also for keeping in touch with business and family. Wifi is no longer a luxury, it is essential and you should not have to go to another building to access it.
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay beautiful place in A fabulous location. we were made very welcome by the owners lovely people. hope to return one day
The rooms were large and comfortable. The bathrooms had great toiletries. The breakfasts had plenty of choice and were well cooked. We saw whales from the balcony within 5 minutes of arriving, and the cliff path was close by and a great walk. Lavender manor is very close to Hermanus golf club which is a very well kept golf club. The advice on where to eat was superb. Many thanks
