It is a surprise what you can do with an old house if you like having guests! The atmosphere of the country house is very inviting, cozy, clean, and you feel free to use the many rooms and the lovely park with pool around the house. The host is very helpful and welcoming (even at odd times), and the breakfast at the big table was of very good quality and accompanied by stimulating conversations with the other house guests.Thank you for a memorable stay!
very easy going, very helpful, great place to stay, a house with masses of character, also you can do your own lunch and dinner if you've pigged out too much like we did. Nice gardens, nice pool to sit by. Strongly recommended the picnics next door.
The self catering cottage was great and was well equipped. It was great to have amenities like swimming pool and wifi in the main house. Lots of animals like goats, horses, peacocks etc added to the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Restaurants were a taxi ride away if you did not want to drive (not expensive though).
historic buildings, old trees, surounding vinyards and friendly staff.
old electric wiring,no air conditioning or roof fan, more cubbards and towels to be changed not longer than every 2 days
we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of this historic old building as well as the magnificent antique furnishings within the main house. The breakfasts were a pleasure with great choices and tasty, well prepared food.
There could perhaps be a bar fridge in the room.
The enormous comfortable bed
The breakfast option for vegetarians could be improved. Only sliced white bread for toast and tinned fruit didn't do it for me but my partner loved her eggs and ham breakfast
We loved the location and the room was comfortable, with a great bathroom!
The Breakfast was a bit slow and the waiter battled to speak/understand English, but because we were on holiday it was all still very relaxing.
Often B&Bs in Franschhoek are small, stuffy, and over priced. Lekkerwijn exhibits none of these traits and proved a real find. I enjoyed my initial stay so much I returned with my family a couple weeks later. Geoff the manager was very friendly and was able to recommend excellent day time activities during our stay. With all the farm animals even my 3 year old nephew had a ball. We will be back.
We had a perfect stay at Lekkerwijn. Great hospitality, excellent breakfast. The manager was very nice as well. He was of great help to us; eg made diner reservasions, advised us nice places to visit. great!!
It is a great manor house very well kept. We only stayed there one night and would have loved to stay there longer. Very interesting place.
Loved our welcome, rooms were comfortable, one in home and one out on property. The views were stunning, loved the animals on the property. Breakfast was wonderful. Geoff the manager is just great and really helpful. Arranged a sumptuous picnic basket for my son to surprise his girlfriend with a marriage proposal.
The sense of history you share by staying in this manor house is fantastic and nothing like anything we have experienced before, it was just fabulous. We were looked after with just excellent care and consideration, and would not hesitate one moment to return.
The host was amazingly friendly and helpful, offering very good advice about every single activity/restaurant/sight-seeing available in the area and beyond, for our next stop in the country. Thanks to him we discovered places that we would never have thought of and could escape from the regular tourist tour. The house itself has a soul that our guest embodied with all his explanations and even a video to explain the story of his family and the place we lived in. All the furniture and decoration reminded us of the cape dutch style and history and had their own special story that he was able to tell us about. The garden and patio were also lovely, with birds and very nice colours. Breakfast was plentiful, very good and the historic setting gave it another dimension.
The wifi could not be used (but who cares about modern technology in such a beautiful historic house?)
We liked the rural feel and the informal, friendly atmosphere.
There was nothing that we didn't like. The venue offered good value for money.
We were in Stellenbosch for a wedding. The guest house offers a shuttle service which came in very handy and perfectly on time! We never had breakfast but the rooms are large and spacious!
An old country house in a lovely setting right next door to Allee Bleue wine estate. Geoff was an excellent host and helped with all your dinner or visit arrangements. He has a great connection at the Bistro next door at the wine estate where the food is of excellent quality. Breakfast is an informal affair sat with your fellow guests but is plentiful and freshly cooked to order. The house was cool and the lack of air conditioning was no issue even with 30degree plus temp outside. Well worth a few days of your time and close to a number of other excellent wine estates. Geoff can provide a car with driver to get you to and from Franschoek for dinner as well if you require for a reasonable charge.
The staff are exceptionally welcoming and the farm house is fabulous. We stayed in the cottage which was very spacious. We braaied for dinner with a weber braai supplied by the owner.
