Score from 20 reviews Wonderful
Centrally located in the town Bethlehem, Times Square offers cozy and individually designed rooms. The guest house has a garden and terrace and is 8 minutes' drive away from Loch Athlone.
Score from 19 reviews Exceptional
The road to get there includes a 15km dirt stretch. If your approach from Bethlehem, this is OK, but be careful if coming from Warden - rather go to Bethlehem and come back as the shorter route is badly rain damaged The WIFI is free but not great
Lionsrock Lodge is part of a big cat sanctuary run by a charity (Four Paws International), hence all your money ultimately benefits the animals. The game drives let you see the animals (lions, tigers, cheetah etc) up close even though they are in large enclosures - try to go on a feeding drive to see the most animals. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help with anything - very attentive. And they all appear to care deeply for the cats. The lodge is very reasonably priced, especially the accommodation. Food, drink and game drives are also competitively priced - once you are there, you are a captive audience for the restaurant but the prices are still acceptable and in some cases quite reasonable. Food quality is exceptional. The rooms are large for the price and comfortable, having everything you need. They have modern fittings that are in good condition and look new. Ours even had a small sink and fridge if you wanted to prepare your own cold meals
Staff and the close proximity of the big cats
Sign on turn off from R712 was unclear. Used Google Maps suggestion which is a bad dirt road.
New facilities and enjoyable food.
We were on our way and the map on internet is not very customer friendly and we got lost and I tried to get hold of the reception at the lodge and nobody answered the phone to assist us, we had to stop and ask people to direct us to the lodge, that was not nice because at that stage we were very tired. Is not that I didn't like it but I'm allergic to dairy, gluten, wheat etc and I mentioned it when I did the booking and the only food which I could eat the morning before we left was 1 piece of boerewors and 2 rasher of bacon. I think they must also cater for such people like myself and other with different diets.
To see the game nearby and the place was very neat.
We cannot use pot and oven at same time. Only one bathroom in the family house.
The staff are very nice and honest. The place is extremely beautiful with so many animals.
The shower was a little weak, the water took very long to get warm and it was difficult to regulate it.
The staff are fantastic, the food absolutely delicious, the tour very interesting with a wonderful guide, the room spacious and comfortable.
Access might be a bit difficult with a normal car on the gravel road. We however had a Land Rover so we didn't experience any problems.
Everything!! Wonderful friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome, good food, clean comfortable rooms and a stunnning environment. The complimentary toiletries are of a good quality and smell gorgeous. Most such game lodges charge 3 x the amount.
They are doing a fantastic job with the sick animals.
Even driving through the reserve to the lodges was beautiful and interesting. We saw lots of animals and birds and the view of the hills was stunning. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown to our spacious and spotless accommodation. The tv had lots of channels and the free wifi was good. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was freshly prepared and tasty and the service was excellent. The game drive with Alvin was great. The charity does excellent work and watching the videos really explains the need for the sanctuary they provide for the big cats. Everyone at Lionsrock is passionate about their cause and work hard to please their visitors and care for the animals. There was a sense of peace and tranquility about the place and we walked on the hiking trail and sat by the pond bird spotting. It was idyllic. Well done to all the staff for the work you do, the comfortable accommodation you provide and for the warmth in your hearts.
This lodge is absolutely amazing.the views are fantastic and the amount of wild animals roaming around is great.the staff we incredibly help full and very friendly. Perfect venue for a relaxing weekend away and the food at the restaurant is superb. Would highly reccomend it!!!
Everything, great setting, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, awesome friendly staff, the friendly dogs, the roaring of the lions, Lions Rock will definitely see us again
Your warm welcomed and your waiters is perfect
Price, Staff ,setting, everything. But most importantly what the sanctuary is doing for abused animals, giving them a wonderful home to see out their days.
The very gravelly road. I had a cheap rental and ended up with a minor flat on the way out. Took me an hour from the main road.
I loved the place itself for the price! Nice, large room. No air conditioner though but it cools off at night. Having a drink with Adrian at the bar was a lovely experience.
Nothing what so ever.
Solitude location for a couple, awesome people, great service, delicious food, reasonable prices, a lot of extra curricular activities, amazing sounds from the lions & hyena's at night. will go again definitely! !!
The lions roaring as we were falling asleep was magical. A wonderful place to stay and a great cause.
Nol airconditioners in the bedrooms, it was very hot.
Everything was done to make our stay interesting and comfortable
There was nothing not to like.
the friendly always always helpful staff, the great work they're doing in the sanctuary.
If the road good be tarred it would be an advantage. according to info on the web a hairdryer is available in the room but there was none in the room. Fortunately my wife took her's along. Shade nets would also be an advantage
The food was excellent and the game drive was very informative and the ranger was well informed. We were impressed with the work that is being done there with animals
Don't expect fancy frills, the rooms are clean, well(ish) maintained and the limited DSTV channels will force you out of your room to enjoy the nature! The rooms all feature ample heating, but on hot days you don't want to be in there - all in all it's a great value for money stay, and knowing that you are supporting the Four Paws and Lionsrock initiative is well worth any of the minor inconveniences
Lionsrock is a sanctuary, an oasis for abused and mistreated cats from around the globe. the people clearly have a passion for what they do, and the big cats are such an experience to see up-close on a viewing drive. i am in awe of how wonderful this organization is!
Clean room, good bed, very friendly staff. Magnificent view. Game drive on own property tot abused lions and tigers was impressive. Good WIFI network.
Some day visitors playing load music from their cars ,but it didnt last and it was new years day
Such a great setting ,that accompanied by good quality food ,great staff doing great things not just for the guests ,but also for the sanctuary of the big cats
The gardens needed a good clean. The double bed in unit 1 needs a new mattress.
Checking in was a nightmare. Got to the place at 5pm (26th Dec) and had confirmed my booking in Sept. They made us sit for an hour while a room is being prepared, then upgraded us to a better room--10minutes into this room we were told that they made a mistate and we need to move to another room. We were travelling with a 6 months baby and two small kids. This was quite frustrating.
The game drives were amazing, enjoyed time with the cats.
1. Not enough pressure in the shower for a good flow of water.
1.Nothing was too much trouble, from comfort, food ect. 2. Four Paws was very educational and an eye opener to all that went on the game drive, the game driver had so much passion for his work. 3. Ethical, kind and understanding owners. 4. A must to visit, peaceful. 5. Thank you to all that made our stay so comfortable.
