    hidden gem

poorly signposted and the directions on the web are misleading (Annendale Road)

The grounds and the building was nice. We met the wine farm manager and his wife was standing in as the manager of the guest house. They were both fabulous and very friendly..the highlight of our stay!

The room wasn't vacuumed properly, the paint was flaking off fittings on the bathroom. The place has potential, but it's run down and needs some money spent on it...the manager in charge doesn't seem to have much of a clue (the normal one) or seem to care about doing a good job. With a decent manager and some money spent on it, it could be an excellent place...definitely not 5 star as they claim!

    The surrounding countryside.

When we arrived at the first front gate we had to Phone three times for them to open the gate. We waited for about 20 min before the gate was opened by a car that was actually leaving. When we got to the reception desk there was nobody there to admit us except for a young girl with her laptop on her lap, feet up on the chair, who told us she did not work there and that the manageress was in Stellenbosch but if we needed to talk to anyone we could see the cleaning lady. After awaiting for a further 10 minutes a lady with a clip board came out to show us to our room. When we entered the room (room 8) it had already been asigned to someone else. We were then asked if we wanted another room and we said no. They shifted the occupants of the room to another room and after another 15 minutes of waiting we recieved room 8. The waste paper basket in the room still had the refuse of the previous occupants in it. When we went onto the stoep leading off the main room it had not been swept for days. A gutter above the stoep was leaking and had formed a moss like growth in the one corner. The wall had not been cleaned for some time and the wooden deck furniture had not been maintained. There was bird faeces over them and spider webs under the side table. The window had putty falling out of the window frame. The display ponds particularly at the entrance needed urgent cleaning and the entrance to the reception needs to be swept. We found a used earbud lying on the pathway leading to the reception area. This establishement clearly has management problems and seems to be indifferent to service delivery relying on its idylic environment to see it through. They did not even have certain items on the breakfast menu. On our departure we were again stuck at the entance gate and we physically had to get out of our car go through a gap in the fence to read the telephone number so that we could phone and get out.

Nice surroundings amongst the vineyards, pleasant young staff. Lovely lounge.

Not exactly 5*, but 4 yes. Small room. First told breakfast could not be served before 8.30. Hello, this is South Africa where we get up early, and you are 5*. Not easy to find from directions on My Booking website.

The rooms were nice but apart from that, not much else.

We were at lyngrove for only one night and we expected our stay to be relaxing, considering it's meant to be a 5 stat hotel. We limited our time in Cape Town because we wanted to see stellenbosh and do some wine tasting. I rang up the hotel about wine tasting the night before we arrived and was assured that we would get a complementary one with our stay. What we got there, the first thing we did was ask about wine tasting and the woman at the desk said we should go for something to eat and that she would do it when we got back, it didn't matter what time. We got back from dinner at 8 o clock and the woman that had promised us this was nowhere to be seen and a nothing woman told us it was far too late and she would do it in the morning. The next morning nothing happened and so I went to complain. The member of staff (the supposed manager) was extremely rude, had zero people skills and didn't say sorry once! The most she could offer us was a free bottle of wine between the 4 of us. This hotel should not be a 5 star hotel with staff like that working tnere. We were in stellenbosch for one night and didn't ever get to taste any wine and we had come all the way from England. We would love to visit stellenbosch again but definitely not this rude hotel!

I changed my flights to South Africa at the very last minute and as a result couldn't find any accommodation in Cape Town within a reasonable price range as it was nye. I booked Lyngrove in Stellenbosch as a sort of last resort and initially was a bit reluctant about being so far from Cape Town as it was my first time visiting. Once I got there I was taken a back at how lovely it was. True country style charm, beautiful house, fantastic set up, lovely staff. The area is beautiful and was such a great way to start my trip in Africa. Was sad to leave and if I hadn't already paid for most of my accommodation in advance in Cape Town I would have stayed here longer. Will be back.

Initially it was quite hard to find as I was driving myself (although once there, you realise it is actually quite easy to find and don't care anyway).

Small old farm house with little number of rooms, a bit british style, very silent, no noise disturbance, clean pool, good braai bar, wonderful surrounding, easy to reach by car (download Stellenbosch pdf wine map from web), good overall service according to south african standards, nice and endeavorig management. Good WIFI and short airport connection. I'll come back.

Red wine is kept too warm at the bar. All these other little details don't matter - this is the country side and Africa. Be generous, take your time and enjoy it.

Quiet and comfortable small hotel. A perfect place to come and relax.

Wifi didn't work in the room and the curtains could block out the morning sun better.

The staff working in the kitchen and in the reception, mainly the young lady who went to fetch me from the airport. She is very attentious (it seems that she knows exactly the needs of the guest).

The problem of the transport. It is supposed that the Hotel has to expect guests like me who went there not exactly to relax, but to work. So this kind of guests need transport. I suggest that you have to find the way to satisfy your guests about transport even if you have to charge them. It avoids inconveniences like those I experienced.
