Maqueda Lodge Kruger Park  

Maqueda Lodge was the first place we stayed during our trip through South Africa. And we kept wishing we could go back throughout the rest of our trip! The place is amazing - it is run by two brothers, Francoise and Etienne. Francoise picked us up at the airport and during the drive explained all the different options and activities. This was really helpful; we were able to plan the four days we had with them. We stayed over New Year, so unfortunately the Mozambique trip wasn't an option (the border is too congested), but there was no lack of alternatives. On day one, he does a (free) 2 hour drive along the Crocodile River with the new guests, to give you a taste of what you might see in the park itself, and it gives you a great sense of the place. The lodge is beautiful, all dark wood, with great decor, but it felt individual and family run rather than like a film set. (Though it could have been one!!) Everything is exceptionally good quality - in both the rooms and common areas. There are two plunge pools for you to cool off. Every evening for dinner, Etienne cooks a three course meal, which is served at a large beautifully set table in the common area. Everything is open to the bush, with white curtains flowing in the wind.. it's quite surreal! Everybody who stays at the lodge eats together at the table. This is voluntary, but given there really isn't much else around in terms of restaurants - one is indeed in the bush - we certainly welcomed it! Etienne is an amazing cook and also catered well for the veggies at the table. We were very lucky and became good friends with another couple who was there - but I can see that this might not be for everybody, if you want a romantic dinner for two it might not be the place for you.

The hotel was fabulous. Rooms, food and service was all first class. We would definately go again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Hospitality and the friend welcoming nature of the owners and staff, Food is fantastic, the rooms and attention to detail rival any 5 star lodge. The ability to be so up close and personal with the wildlife is a treat, that should be experienced by all.

Friendly personal service, comfortable rooms, good food - all round we loved it.

Hotel e absolutamente fantastico! atendimento nota 10, comida sensacional, cada refeicao uma supresa, realmente menu gourmet de impressionar! Super confortavel, realmente uma experiencia unica, diferente, cheia de memorias para o resto da vida! Resposta esta meio brega mas realmente o lugar e sensacional, viajo o mundo todo a trabalho e existem poucos lugares como esse!

Sincerente nada, todos foram super solicitos nos deixando bem confortaveis!

Sehr persönlich geführte Lodge. Tolles Essen abends bei sehr netter Atmosphäre! Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

Es liegt mit 30km etwas ausserhalb von dem nächsten Krügerpark Einlass.

Very friendly, family staff who are very attuned to their guests desires to socialise or spend time out. Breakfast was 5 star standard and personalised to our wishes and served at a time of our choice. Lounge area is excellent - still open but under cover and very peaceful and quiet. Honesty bar system which made it easy to grab our own drinks when we desired. Room was simple but very clean and we had our own private pool area with chairs to also use
