We stayed at the Melville Turrett a night either side of a wonderful safari. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The garden here is a lovely little oasis and the rooms are nice snd comfortable. The house itself is only a 5 minute walk from the trendy shops and restaurants of Melville, which itself has a nice vibe about it. I didn't know what to expect from Jo'burg, but I actually quite liked it. If I visited again, I'd stay here.
Wifi wasn't great, but it didn't really bother me. Was glad to not have it to be honest.
I had the premium space—the loft—but all the rooms are comfortable, breakfasts are great, free wifi, walking distance to 7th St restaurants, helpful & friendly staff
Can't think of anything.
When planning a visit to Joburg our first concern was the safety. Located in Melville, one of the safest areas in the city, this hotel does give safe feeling once you walk in there. Efficient staff arranges airport taxi and Soweto township & museum trips via reliable network. Good restaurants and bars are nearby. Without doubt an address to keep for next visit!
Our room was a little damp although sun was bright outside probably because of many tall trees surrounding the hotel?
friendly, comfortable, good breakfast
Fantastic breakfast! Very nice place and calm atmosphere.
Close to the restaurants of 7th street
The parking is a big problem here. Guests are not given keys to the gates, and this is very inconvenient whenever you are going in or out with your car. We also ended up being parked in by other cars on two occasions, very inconvenient when the owner of the car is not around. When leaving the last day, the attendant closed the gate before the car was out, leaving a big dent in our car..
They go above and beyond to help their Guests!
Great location, friendly staff and very comfortable bed. Outstanding breakfast. Julia was very helpful in hooking us up with airport pickup and an excellent one day tour of the major attractions in Jo'burg.
Flying home from Jo'burg in mid-November - booked our final two nights at the MT.
Service was amazing and reception was very helpful. Room clean and breakfast good. Secure parking Very central
The house itself is beautiful, and the room I was in was spacious, well-furnished and very comfortable. It is certainly one of the top guesthouses in Johannesburg, especially at its competitive rates.
Two major issues. I stayed there on a stormy night, and was kept awake all night by the banging and scratching of tree branches against the roof. Some tree trimming would not go amiss. Secondly, I asked for a reasonably priced taxi to pick me up at the train station, but did not mean a deathtrap. The vehicle that arrived was severely unroadworthy, swerving and crabbing alarmingly across the road despite the driver's best efforts.
Very clean, comfortable room. Quiet, secure location. Staff were helpful in booking a tour for me and arranging airport transfers. Easy walking distance to shops/restaurants on 7th St.
Only odd thing was I arrived late after reception staff had left so there was just the security guy who let me in - there was a piece of paper with my name on it and the key on the desk, no checking of ID so anyone could have taken it/pretended to be me.
Clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff
the surrroundings is safe and quiet. 7th ave. with only 5 minutes work where you will find many restaurants and bars.
The Loft at Melville Turret Guesthouse was beautifully decorated and secluded. It was a lovely stay.
The staff demanded payment beforehand instead of at checkout which was strange.
-Free parking -Nice patio sitting area -Close to restaurants and shops -Good breakfast
Personal, food all was good...
Sipelgad/spiders was our room
I love old buildings so it was lovely to be there.
You were not aware of where the entrance was. My room was not ready and I arrived about 1.45pm - the staff wasn't friendly - it was hard to get hold of anyone and the breakfast you had to wait for ages - perhaps you need to set up a facility for people to make their own toast - just an ordinary toaster in the diningroom. Also they could have advised you that they do not provide food.
Such a nice place and close walk to 7th street. Highly secured: staff made sure we closed the gate at each time. We loved our first room with the separate bath and shower although there's no real door (just a separator). The outdoor tables and garden area are beautiful. The hot breakfast included in the price of the guesthouse was amazing...there's a menu and you choose what you want. Best breakfast ever! Staff are also very nice and sweet once they warm up to you. Helped us out a lot, which we appreciate. Good value for money!
Nothing. Maybe a bit shady walking back to the guesthouse at night but that may purely be paranoia.
Nice facilities. Real comfy. A good landing place into Jo'burg.
I didn't quite understand the hot water system.
Very safe area. Nice place and very nice staff!!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nicely quiet place and location in Johannesburg.
The B&B where we stayed the previous evening in Pretoria also had a 3 star grading, but turned out to be an absolute dump by comparison with The Turret. So grading is not everything.
lovely guest house friendly and helpful staff. good and safe location
It was good except for the breakfast.
It was'nt a full English breakfast.
The facilities are well positioned in a quite location. The place is well designed with beautiful green trees
The staff are not as welcoming as the place and not even a goodbye upon departure. The breakfast was not proper, we got cold coffee, fruit salad with a drop of yoghurt not sufficient for two people. It appears the staff give more attention to white folks rather than black folks (Not racial at all, jus honest opinion) therefore white people this is a place to be.
