Situated in the foothills of the Drakenburg Escarpment, Wild Horses Lodge features a tranquil garden with an outdoor pool overlooking the Sterkfontein Dam.
Score from 24 reviews Wonderful
EXCELLENT LOCATION. STUNIING VIEWS.
Bad Service. Poorly trained staff.
The view of the mountain was spectacular. The food was great. Lovely atmosphere and grounds.
nearest to the royal natal national park and perfect view onto the amphietheater!
a little bit dirty (towels, table clothes, etc)
Location is excellent. Loved the views of the mountain and village
Standard rooms need to be revamped. Was given one with no view, not even garden. Complained but no action. Bathroom had no windows and extractor fan didn't work. Going to the bathroom in my partner's presence was a challenge.
One staff member at reception went out of her way to assist me with printing and internet and her friendliness, wrote her name on review card. The scenery is amazing. The room was comfortable
I travel nationally and internationally constantly and was very disappointed with the hotel. I understand if you are upgrading facilities but that should then be indicated on your website until completed, currently the website is misleading regarding what you can expect! The food looks good but tastes bland and the variety for R170 p/p is poor. No room service, really! My husband requested a bottle of sparkling wine for the room for the Saturday evening when he did the booking, at 20h00 we had to phone and ask for the sparkling wine. The answer was that it was coming with room service when they did the turndown service. What turn down service? Did not happen at all. We had to ask for toilet paper as well and the room was not swept after the Friday. The staff everywhere including the kitchen holds up the walls all the time and is not very friendly but the first thing asked on a bar slip is the amount you will tip for them just to hand you a bottle of water. No hotel guideline in the room, just a piece of paper with breakfast and dinner times and a couple of numbers? Even guest houses has them with cookies at the coffee tray in the room. You will definitely not see us again and I will not recommend you at all!!!
No wine and dinner menus available
Outside of rooms need renovations...good food at restaurant.
Outside need renovation ....road to hotel needs to be widened for vehicle access.
- wonderful view at the mountains from the terrasse - just 4 km to the National Park - Great food - helpful staff
- construction work at the entrance, I felt a bit dusturbed, because my room was very close
The view from my room
The "hot" food for breakfast was cool
Rooms very neat and comfortable
The food can be better
View, location, staff
Nothing much for younger kids. No room service available if buffet.
rooms very nice and spacious.
The GPS coordinates were wrong and the hotel was not helpful to direckt us on the right way. Food for this kind of establishment very poor. Every night the same dish. No variations. Breakfast poor. They have a toaster for 2 slices of toast which you have to make yourself. There are no snacks or any small meals one could eat in between. Food a definite no no.
Scenery Quality of food Price Attentive management
The road past Sterkfontein dam is not recommended. I travelled home via Bergville / Winterton which made a fair difference in distance and time to get back to JHB. I travelled the Sterkfontein road on the way there and unless you have the right type of car I would not recommend doing that. The staff was not as friendly as I would have expected but I cannot complain too much about that as it was acceptable. I did have the impression that they were unhappy about something.
Poor/Very Limited wine selections Food was averaged
1.Very kind and helpful staff. 2.The manager was excellent and ensured that we were happy and comfortable. Very nice person. 3. Food was 5 star!
Standard room had no quilts, cushions, pictures on the wall and a poor tv bouquet. The bathroom had a poorly draining sink, a toilet which took10 mins to fill and a shower with dirty grouting. Did inform the hotel but have had no reponse.
Clean resort, friendly people, well trained staff. beatifull surrounding, peacefull and quiet.
13 km dirt road to the resort
The staff is excellent, especially reception staff by way of Esme Laing. She went out of her way to make us comfortable.
nothing really, except they could not provide us with snow (hehe)
The views was good we stood outside our door for more than a half hour waiting for the technical guy to open our door, realy very bad! I think they own us a free night in a luxury room was absolute very bad!
No help with buggage No room service waited 20 min for ice!
Bed Facilities (games room) Tv - very little options
very friendly and attentive staff, great terrace and hall area
In our room several fixture items were either broken or disfunctional; this clearly indicates lack of relevant management processes in place. Supper good value for money but definitely not breakfast (perhaps due to our stay being out of season)
Friendly staff Value for money in restaurant and bar Spectacular views Calm location
the setting and the views over the mountains. peace and quiet friendly service
the access to the rooms is outdated and needs a revamp.not inviting
The location surroundings are breathtakingly beautifull and within close proximity of a number of hiking trails. Some areas within the hotel (including the rooms and lounge area) appear to have been renovated with stylish and modern finishings.
The hotel's music selection for breakfast and supper is limited to 3 cd's only (2 featuring Juanita du Plessis and the other from Phantom of the Opera). The options quickly become overplayed and boring if you stay for longer than a single night.
