Located in a quiet suburb in East London, Blarney House is 1.9 km from Blue Bend beach. It offers a tropical garden with an outdoor pool and views of the Indian Ocean.
Score from 54 reviews Excellent
Set in the midst of tropical gardens with rich bird life, and with views of the Indian Ocean, See More Guest House is a haven of peace and quiet on the Eastern Cape coast.
Score from 82 reviews Wonderful
Nice game reserve and view on hippo's and lions and the close encounters with the lovely baby giraffe. Perhaps rough diamond in the making or just a diamond being torn apart..
- Setting worn down and outdated. - Stuff broken and loose and badly maintained. - Staff didn't seem to care. - Don't think the "pretended" Big 5 actually lives there.
I spent a most enjoyable weekend at Mpongo and would recommend it to anyone. I had worried that as a middle-aged female, travelling alone without a car, I might be at a disadvantage - but the staff ferried me around and couldn't have been more helpful. Well worth the extra to stay at the lodge. I was over the moon to see a new-born baby giraffe on the safari as well as ticking off most of the animals and birds on the list. Our driver was knowledgeable and charming. I've never experienced such silence at night or seen so many stars. Wonderful experience altogether.
I would just say that I found the horseback safari a bit of a challenge, never having ridden a horse before in my life! (No doubt the horse was as uncomfortable as I was though) I think I'd stick to wheels next time!
ANIMALS,THE ROOM AND THE NATURE WALK
THE FACT THAT THE PARKING OF THE CAR IS A DISTANCE FROM THE HOUSE AND i MUST CARRY ALL THE LUGGAGE
This was our second stay at Mpongo and our third visit. The hotel in the middle of the game reserve is something special. The rooms are pure luxury, huge beds, sumptuous bathrooms within the bedroom and views that can't be matched. Your private seating area is open to the reserve and the animals can wonder up to the windows, fantastic to wake up too, as sleeping with the curtains open is a must. The food is divine, cooked to order, and the staff go out of their way to make your stay perfect. Unfortunately we had very heavy rain, but we spent a totally relaxing day curled up in the comfortable sofas in front of a great fire,in the lovely sitting room, watching the rain, deer and monkeys, who came up to the windows. I think this is one of the best places in the East London areas to stay. Already planning a much longer stay next year.
Can't fault it at all
We absolutely loved our time at Mpongo. The staff and facilities were excellent! We got a little lost on our way to the reserve and one of the staff stayed on the phone with us to guide us there AND after arriving late for our game drive they then went the extra mile to book us on the next available drive! We would recommend Mpongo to anyone, it was an amazing experience with beautiful food and we got to see all the animals we were looking for! We even got up close to a stunning Rhino!! Just amazing! Definitely book without hesitation!
We got lost on the way there...maybe some signs along both of the routes would have been helpful. Although, the staff were very helpful in guiding us along the back roads over the phone :)
Service and facilities were of high standard, the stunning setting, overall a much enjoyed stay.
The accommodation is in the heart of the reserve Our room was luxurious The team were very knowledgable and attentive
The service was superb. When we arrived there it was already closed however the owners went out of their way to ensure that we were accommodated. That's a wow for me.
We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - Thomas was so welcoming and gave such a good game drive in the early morning. Mfundi cooked superbly for our evening mel and Lolita was so helpful at breakfast. The room was excellently clean and comfortable. An experience we could warmly endorse - especially the hippo calling at supper time.
We would have appreciated a mini-fridge in the room
Loved all the animals, especially the lions and that we where lucky to see them get fed. The baby giraffe was also adorable. Wish we could have seen the elephants and rhinos though. We also enjoyed the animals that graced outside the rooms.
We would suggest that there is proper signage at all the intersections in the reserve to indicate how to get to the lodge. We got lost about 4 times, and almost missed the cut off for booking in my bike on saturday evening for ironman. We feel the hot breakfast was expensive for something that you will pay max R40 for at another place, especially as it was not a buffet.
No network especially for Vodacom
beautiful setting the baby giraffe in the touch farm the view from the breakfast room the nyala outside our bedroom window the reserve was magnificent
Restaurant Food is terrible. New Chef needed!
Amazing interaction with animals. Friendly staff.awesome petting zoo and lion viewing.
No air conditioning in the bedrooms. Limited buffet. .average food with no options for the kids.
Fantastic stay - very peaceful an relaxing. Excellent facilities for young kids - the petting farm was a huge hit! Very good game viewing too
I liked the way they treat us i felt like a queen,it's no lie when they say they treat you like Royal. I had the best time of my life.Thak you for the wonderful weekend. The staff is very kind we were welcomed by this guy called Tomas telling us abuot the animals. Keep up the good work thank you
Our game drive was excellent Our meals were good
Only us staying so the restaurant felt a bit strange
This is my best rest place, it is close to Mdantsane (where my mother lives) and close to my East London office, yet far away enough for me to disengage if I need to.
The breakfast at the Restaurant was not good at all, and I mean in all aspects.
Peaceful, wildlife on your doorstep
