Everything was perfect - service, room, meals and all people I met. Allow me some suggestions further down.
for an elderly person like me the distance to the sea is quite strenous and the way down is not in best order. How about a shuttle every 3 hours or so? Also a hidden fresh water shower should be available. And - the ways to and from you are a real challenge. (not your responsibility!)
What a wonderful place this is. The Lodge is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by sand dunes and the most gorgeous scenery, with an amazing sandy bay. All staff were so friendly and attentive, and certainly made you feel at home. The food here is out of this world - so many different tastes combined to make mealtimes special. As a mature lady,The Lodge is where I recorded a first - horse riding along the most beautiful beach ever. I wish our stay here could have been longer - it was certainly memorable. Many thanks to everyone at The Lodge
an absolutely wonderful and unique place!!! hiking trails are great! horse riding was a great experience too. the stuff is extremely polite and helpful. beach is private and very, very long and wide. even the road to it is not that bad, we drove 80km/h most of the time on it.
A wonderfully peaceful retreat; just perfect for getting away from it all. Two days were not enough, we'll be back!
The location is superb, set in a nature reserve with special respect for the wild life. Wonderful walks though the vegetation to the miles of white sandy beach, dunes, lagoon. Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable chalet. Pleasant swimming pool area. The Boma is a wonderful retreat with a stunning view.
The food is over-elaborate and we found it better to self-cater. But excellent breakfasts. The accommodation could easily be improved/upgraded without too much work. It was comfortable but could be better.
The beautiful landscape, the fantastic hosts. The food was as good as we have eaten anywhere. Totally loved the place.
The 24k drive on a dirt track in. But we do realise you can not have such an amazing setting any other way. We hope to visit the lodge again.
We stayed in a deluxe chalet and it was beautifully appointed, with good quality fittings and furnishings and extremely comfortable. The location was stunning, walks in all directions and at one with nature.
Sadly, the a la carte restaurant - wasn't! Having left the nearest restaurant or eating house some 22 km away and then travelling a very poor dirt road, guests don't have much option but to dine at the hotel, but as the hotel advertise a la carte dinning we were looking forward to our meal. Unfortunately, this was the worst meal we had during our holiday; the breaded camembert was served uncooked, the stuffed chicken breast was cold served on a dollop of gooey overcooked risotto and the white wine wasn't chilled. This was all raised with the manager who agreed that they had obviously failed in the kitchen! Although the breakfast was excellent this didn't make up for the previous evening & because they really do have a captive audience the restaurant needs to excel. Sadly as lovely as the accommodation is, we won't be returning or recommending.
Excellent lodge if you like to be "at the end of the world", dirt roads to get there, amazing beach, horses, birds, nature far away from everything, nothing in the neighbourhood, once there, nothing else but Oyster Bay Lodge, just nature
quite windy of course, ok for a few days seeing there's nothing around and dirt roads about 30 K to get there, longer it might get lonely
Food very good
The long dirt road
