The location is not very friendly. Did not realize that it was in the older part of town. Not easy to find. Map could have been a little more explicit. Room was super. Interior of hotel was very surprising in comparison to the out side especially Jabu street. The dinner we had was very dissapointing. I had Ravioli which was dry. No source, which should have been included. No cherry tomatoes, but a tomaoe cut up in1/4's and sun died tomatoes no herb as suggested on the menu. I requested an Irish coffee, but was told there was no cream. Did the barman actually know how to make it. Husbands meal Also dissapointing, also very dry. I suggested in my report that the chef go for a refresher course, and I'm not being sarcastic! The breakfast was superb. Just like the other Protea hotels we have stayed at. We have stayed at the Protea on the Ridge as well as the Protea hotel near the beach in Umhlanga. My husband and I are pensioners and always look out for you specials during the year so that we can enjoy a holiday we can afford.

The room itself was fine for a short stay. Breakfast (although an extra charge) is ok. Secure parking facilities were good and free. However, wifi does not work in the guest rooms and in the lobby area it was patchy. In fact, do not bank on getting wifi working properly when you need it. Unfortunately, although BOOKING.com confirmed my booking, information that the hotel was overbooked was given after my payment. The hotel downgraded me into a lower room upon arrival but claimed the full amount of the original booking prior to my arrival. In any other business, that is known as theft... I advised booking.com to remove this hotel from any further promotion on its website.

Good central location, interesting colonial building. Secure parking. Room was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and well made-up. Mattress needs to be replaced urgently, sagging in the middle! This is really not acceptable. Air conditioning was rather noisy. Bathroom could do with more shelves/surfaces - there is nowhere to place your toiletries, which is irritating.

They say the Imperial is as old as Pietersmaritzberg itself, and it is a lovely property with a heritage feel - sketches / paintings of Prince Napoleon (nephew of the big man) who lived and died in the region, and a lovely old French wall clock in the lobby, and yet the rooms have been refurbished with all modern amenities - thus also providing all modern comforts. It is right in the centre of downtown of this little town and is very convenient especially for business with the Kwazulu Natal administration. The staff are friendly and helpful. Food could be spruced up a bit.

Prima kamer, veel ruimte en prima sanitair. Centrale ligging. Prima ontbijtbuffet.
