My fiancee and I really enjoyed the time spent and are even considering having our wedding there and booking out the whole lodge for that weekend. I really enjoyed the service and attention the staff gave to us and other guests. They really went out of their way to make this a truly special weekend away for us.
I was disappointing that the rooms we booked were situated so close to the parking. Also, i think the barn rooms should have a lace curtain so that we can enjoy the day light without closing the curtains completely. I think there should be better description of what you get with the Barn Rooms on the site.
Everything about the accommodation was wonderful. Stornoway is within minutes of Lanseria airport and probably about half an hour from Sandton. The staff were friendly and very helpful; room comfort and cleanliness was exceptional, the whole experience was one of pure relaxation, simply didn't want to leave!
The restaurant and bar are beautifully situated, overlooking the lake, but my meal (calamari then ribs) was very ordinary, - perhaps just a poor choice on the evening.
Friendly stuff warm welcome cleanness kids facility picnic area secured paking
There was no kitchen sink no stove
All the staff was so friendly and welcoming, the service we got from waiter Benji was excellent through out the weekend. Thank u!
To be honest, there's nothing I didn't like.
Close to Lanseria Airport - but still a countryside feel. Lovely farm atmosphere & very well-kept grounds & facilities. Lots of fun for children - canoeing on dam, animals, play area. Nice on-site restaurant. It was perfect for our needs: ie. a 1 night stopover & dinner spot, close to the airport.
Coming from Cape Town, it is hard to rate this place as being suitable for a "weekend away" destination - it may be a pretty getaway for Gautengers, but it's not the sort of place we'd go on holiday to in Cape Town. Not their fault - it's just that it's in Gauteng :) But, given the geographic limitations they have, they have created a lovely oasis in the countryside.
Animals on the lodge, the view of the dam. Close location to JHB.
The restaurant cooked both our ostrich and salmon from frozen not fresh, ostrich steak was thin and fish still frozen inside on plate, with ice cold sauce on top. Mixed veggies boiled at same rate, very uninteresting and not tasty meals for the price. Ordinary but can fill the hungry stomach. Staff seems a bit unmotivated, singing happy birthday to another guest very unmotivated. No honey served with Red cappuccino tea. Restaurant staff does not respect privacy and wanted to come into unit so i can pay the outstanding coffee bill from the restaurant. They don't allow a tab on your room, even though you stay at the lodge.
Location, surounds, restaraunt, staff friendly
Needs more specific address so GPS can locate it had trouble finding it.
Just down the road from Lanseria and an easy drive to Pretoria and Jhb. I am a regular traveller and by far this was the most relaxing weekend away I can remember. The room was perfect and everything was catered for. The surroundings are beautiful, our host and the staff were exceptionally friendly and the restaurant with its spectacular view was the cherry on the cake. We had a wonderful romantic weekend away and will most certainly return.
There are so many things to rave about our stay at Stornoway Lodge, and we indeed felt it was NOTHING SHORT OF AN EXCELLENT stay here. For whatever you are paying, just don't even give a second thought unless you are some backpacker who can afford only very cheap accomodation a night, even for the 5 star traveller, THIS IS THE PLACE. Why? 1) 787Rand a night, a very reasonable price considering the cheapest you can get for Jo'burg at this range of accommodation would be MINIMALLY 650-700 Rand 2) An ultra humongous room, and unless you are staying in the middle of the amazon rainforest with no transport access, you CANNOT find better deals anywhere. 60Sqm, imagine, that's enough space for a department party. 3) An excellent getaway for those who absolutely LOVE the country-side lifestyle. The owners, Paula and Bruce, has even kindly included pigs, roosters/chickens, turtles, horses, ducks, amongst other animals (and you won't believe this one: TWO ZEBRAS) because of their love for animals, and you have the chance to interact with them up close without going to a zoo or paying any extra cost. The scenery is amazing, relaxing, and for those who are worried of the dangers of Jo'burg, do choose this place! 4) Opposite the road has this excellent pie shop, which prides itself as the ORIGINAL PIE SHOP in Jo'burg, and boy are those pies excellent, and they come cheap too. Seriously cheap. Just go early cause you won't want to be stranded without food on Mondays/Tuesdays. 5) 15 Minutes to get to Sandton, where all the major businesses are in Jo'burg. 6) And most importantly, the thing to really rave about the most, the owners. PAULA has been an EXCELLENT host, and really the kindest hotel owner I've met. I cannot repeat that enough. When we arrived at the lodge, we were eager to explore the surrounding locations, hearing that it is close to Steinfontein Caves, Lesedi Cultural Village and even Maropeng (These 3 are a MUST VISIT!
Just a short sideline to balance the review, every hotel has its negatives. Expect these when you stay: 1) If you HATE a country life and want a city life/close to Jo'burg 2) Breakfast is not provided, payable at 7 Rand pp. The restaurant closes every Mon/Tues for the time being. 3) Wifi is NOT free, payable at Vodacom rates, only first GB free.
nice relaxing environment very close to Lanseria Airport
Wifi access could be improved
Warm personal welcome by Robert the Manager. Very calm and relaxed atmosphere..just the place to unwind! I would definitely stay there again.
Loved everything about the place, including the personal attention of the owners of Stornoway lodge.
'On hands' staff & any requests made promptly dealt with.
The welcome was excellent, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. The lodge is magnificently beautiful
We had to eat breakfast at another restaurant but Robert promised his own restaurant will be up and running soon
Self catering. Able to unwind and relax. Great place for kids. Accommodation spacious and smart. Will be great once the restaurant is running. Will definitely be back to stay.
Still busy with some renovations on the property, no restaurant yet.
The staff were helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily.
The kitchen was not well stocked with utensils.
The staff was excellent. The accommodation was clean and our needs were attended to in a friendly and efficient manner. Beautiful scenery, child-friendly environment.
Being sent to another place for breakfast was not great. It would be good if there was a bit more to do and if alcohol was served.
The staff helped us to get some food when we arrived as we came hungry, thinking there was a restaurant. Everyone was super helpful and our stay was lovely.
We would have liked breakfast. There's no restaurant yet so pack food!
We loved the size of the room and how modern it was. It was far enough to be out of the city but close enough that we didn't have to drive for hours to get there.
People, views, food, comfy bed
Room facilities e.g. DSTV could have been activated, no room internet, but neither a major issue
The peacefulness outside, felt like I was on a farm far away from the city madness. The breakfast was excellent! Lovely large room.
The welcome was very personal and helpful. We were given a huge and very beautiful room with single beds as per our request. The grounds are beautiful. We would stay there again,
The rooms were very nice and spacious
That there was no communication regarding the meals etc.
Loved the peace and quiet! The fact that we felt like the only two around for miles was surreal! Some much needed rest to recharge for the new year.
