I enjoy the contemporary styling of the room and the lay out. Comfort bed, TV, shower and bath area are lovely. Quiet and hidden nicely.
I didn't like exactly were this property was located literally. This property would be a whole lot better if the court yard was expanded with a garden, instead of gravel and a swimming pool would add a definitive touch. There was a problem with the room phone, it didn't work when trying to call the front desk. Lastly, I strongly believe that water, snacks, and sweets should be a complimentary treats for guests and not be additional charge especially when there was no prior notification of such.
location- it was close from restaurants, galleries, nice cafe etc.. not very dangerous to walk blocks. interior - very nice. modern, pretty use of modern furniture with a bit of African touch. Bed was comfortable to sleep in. Staff- helpful and informative. nice cafe for breakfast and drink for night. - the city is not cut out for walking around at night. if you are tired to take a car to go out, there is a nice cafe to eat and drink. Breakfast was excellent also.
hair dryer in my room was not working and I needed to wait till morning to go borrow a dryer from another room. it was before check out time, but cleaning ladies already came to clean my room while I was preparing my self in the morning...
The friendliness of staff
There was no safety locker in the room. I experienced that it was not safe to leave valuables ion the room.
Unique décor Peaceful
Awkward point of entry. It was a little bit confusing finding my way in.
Loved the decor. Beautiful hotel! Let us check in early.
The staff seemed very disorganised. The sheets being changed in the morning before check out resulting in having to step over them to get in/out of room. No proper reception (it's in the restaurant). Lost our original booking.
We loved our stay at The Concierge, thought the staff was incredible - especially Mrs. Daniel, she is dynamite! Everyone was so beyond helpful and accommodating, the restaurant, Freedom Cafe is spectacular. Everything is homemade from scratch. Such an authentic experience at this hotel, with nearly every detail thought out to a T. The rooms are urban chic - very cool exposed brick, wood, bright pops of color, etc. Were very impressed by everything.
Location is somewhat odd - in a random alley, close to Florida Rd. If we didn't have a car, not sure I would have felt comfortable walking around. The wifi was pretty bad, wasn't really able to do much other than check an email or two.
The rooms are OK, if you don't mind the noise (if if you don't mind that the whole room becomes a sauna after taking a shower)
1) I didn't get the room that I had booked through booking.com (I must be fair, I have been given a free beer as a compensation, but still... why give the opportunity to choose?) 2) This place is very, very noisy (café next door, neighbours, baby crying, etc.) 3) Breakfast was a joke: I had to wait 40 minutes to get a fat rösti with cold mushrooms...
Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Nicer than we could have hoped for. On arrival met by Peter who was fantastic and everyone just so nice and helpful. Super comfortable beds and pillows!
The next morning Staff arrived late, could not find keys, breakfast was meant to start at 7h00 by 08h00 I left as nothing was happening yet
The concept, style and decor were great. Breakfasts were excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. An inspired and refreshing change from other hotels. Would definitely stay there again.
Wifi was patchy and it was a little noisy at times when guests entered rooms late at night.
Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Funky stylish rooms
Very noisy in the morning. No hot water. Wifi did not work
The creativity in the decor & the uniqueness of the rooms...I love it
The shower needs more suction as the water just flows all over the bathroom floor
If ever I have to visit Durban again, i know where to stay. Thank you for a lovely stay! Thank you Oliver, you made our stay special!
The staff at the Concierge are out of this world. Nothing was to much trouble. Primrose, the concierge, immediately moved us to the room that I booked, although booking.com gave the incorrect room details through to The Concierge. Later that evening, we were looking for an authentic Indian restaurant to have lunch at. Primrose immediately phoned ahead to a restaurant nearby to confirm if they were open and even made a reservation for us. The breakfast at the Concierge's Freedom Café is delicious! The rain-fall shower in the room, a splashing treat and the bed linen, oh, so, comfortable. But above all these treats, the service! The Service!
There was a bit of wear and tear above the two sinks in the bathroom that broke the "perfect" image of an otherwise perfect room. There was also only one rather ugly bathrobe for a two person room. Some fluffy white cotton bathrobes would have been such a treat.
I love the whole experience at the hotel
I wish that check out was at around 12h00, 10h00 is so early
I loved the look and the feel- funky yet chic, and extremely comfortable with many extra touches. The sitting and eating area is also lovely, enjoyed spending time there while on my own and for a business meeting. Great eats too!!!!The staff are amazing, professional, extrremely friendly and helpful, really go the extra mile and make you feel like a much valued personal guest. This is for sure my place of choice for any Durban visit in the future. WELL DONE on creating something special!
The location not great for exploring(did not feel safe to walk around), but was very central from a business point of view.
Friendly, happy staff.
Design and layout of the rooms were great. Bathrooms were well set out with an amazing shower. Stocked mini bar and snacks were a sweet touch - just wish they weren't so expensive. Breakfast was really good too.
No obvious signage of how to get to the hotel - even once you're at Freedom Cafe, not to mention no signage along St Mary's Avenue!
Great bathtub and interesting design concept...the Freedom Cafe also does nice coffee.
We stayed in Room 1.1 which faces the courtyard where the Freedom Cafe is. If you are someone who likes to sleep later in the morning, request a room on the other side of the building where it is quieter.
This place is amazing. The staff were all super nice, accommodated every need, ensured safety etc. The rooms are very cool..modern chic designs. Greatest shower and tub and REALLY comfy bed. Everything felt new and clean. As far as location - this was my first time in a Durban and when I drove in I was a bit shocked/surprised because the neighborhood looks scary!!! In fact I'm very independent but I never walked around outside of the hotel without my boyfriend. I've lived in tons of different types of neighborhoods and never payed too much attention to the hype nor ever been too scared but you could sense an element of danger here. The hotel however is a very quick ~5 min walk to Florida road where there were great restaurants and a lively nightlife. Quick walk there and cab home for pennies, I felt extremely safe at the hotel.. Gated parking, big fence, safe for valuables, reception etc. Last but not least- the food was GREAT. Breakfast like that to come with your room- aaaamazing!!! Eggs, toast, fruits everything was delicious and fresh Also great coffee.
Only real negative was the wifi was very unreliable .. In and out. When it rained was out entirely. Also had to dirive to beach but now that I've seen Durban, I appreciate being Ina. Location not near downtown and off the beach / golden mile stretch which although beautiful seems more seedy/ dirty.
i liked the clean bedding
Large, spacious room and bathroom. The staff were very friendly and accommodating with early breakfasts, packed lunches and laundry. There was an honesty bar and comfy seating area with lots of interesting books to browse. The meal on the second night of our stay was very good.
Our room smelt damp. There were no meal options on the first night which meant a short drive into town which would not have been an inconvenience had I not wanted to relax with a beer!
the friendliness of the staff
