Had a nice breakfast. Deteriorating room conditions:broken chair;ageing furniture and floor carpet;old towels and incomplete bath room set.

The cleaness of the hotel, the proffesional staff and the luxury of the hotel The fact the pool deck was not up to standard, while it was so windy by the beach I would have liked to relax by the pool.

There was virtually no water pressure in the bathroomroom and no hot water which was not remidied despite reporting this matter to management. They also double booked my room and checked someone else into the room on the second day of my stay to his and my embarasment and inconvenience. Not a good experience!!

Very cool environment, relaxed and quiet. Staff very friendly. Nice big rooms and we furnished. The washing liquid on dishes especially the glasses smells bad. Sometimes if you ask for water, you get water with dirty things flowing inside the glass. Room service took time or never responds to clients requests. Instead of 1 double bed in the room, we (me and my girl friend) got two single beds...and I was like "wtf". When the room is being cleaned, staff who cleans the rooms do not change the towels, we ended up using the same towels for 4 nights, 5 days...can you imagine that...

Nothing, bad service The hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel. I travel worlwide and this is untrue. I have stayed in 3 star hotels and received better service. The rooms are dirty with soiled curtains. Towels and linen were stained and only one bath towel was supplied to a room with two occupants. We found hairs in the bed linen, which had supposedly been changed before we arrived. This was definitely not the case. We waited 2 hours for room service, which were frozen waffles that had been toasted and burnt.Staff were useless when it came to sorting out problems. When approached about the shocking cleanliness of the rooms, they promised to look into into but nothing was done. I feel the price paid for a room which is rated 4 star is a rip off. This hotel needs to be reviewed on their rating as it is definitely not 4 star. I will never stay here again and would not recommend it to any of my colleagues and friends.

The breakfast was very nice, staff were helpful and friendly. Our room didn't look like it did in the picture, it was more like a economic option. The aircom settings weren't really that much. The fridge was leaking water and freezing everything. I feel I've paid too much for what I got

The room was quiet and the shower great (big showerheads) The Royal may have been the place to be a long time ago, but is now in desperate need of some renovation/restyling. There is no communication among personnel and the people at the reception were incompetent (first they made me wait for 8 minutes because they insisted on stapling my papers upon arrival and secondly, I had two seperate bookings and asked to stay in the same room, they said they woul take care of it, but half-way my stay my room (with my belongings inside) was blocked and I had to change rooms after all)

Beautiful hotel with decades of history. Beautiful bay view. Beautiful hotel with decades of history but terrible staff!! Incompetent!! Only one or two helpful people. Breakfast was awful. Still waiting for my coffee. Staff not very informed. Did not even know where the British Airways office was - also did not make an effort to find out. Beautiful bay view and it is a shame that a hotel with so much potential is so neglected. Tv reception is terrible. Come on Royal Hotel!! Step up to Durban's standards!!!

The breakfast was good and the room that it was served in was amazing. Although I had a non smoking room, the linen smelled of cigarette smoke. The furniture is scratched and worn down.

Excellent Location, Very clean well maintained rooms. Hotel food was very bland and tasteless for the price paid, staff was under trained and slow to respond to simple requests. Service needs to be improved to justify the price charged for the room.

The ambience of the hotel is excellent. The dining facilites are also very good. The more public areas such as the reception area, lounges and the restaurants were very clean. The reception I received when checking-in left a lot to be desired. The receiptionist was very indifferent and I did not even offer assistance with my luggage, and neither was I shown to my room nor pointed to the lift that would take me to my floor.

My husband loved the old photos in the coridors. each after noon we walked up and down the halls to have a look at the photos. And the food was great. The bed was too soft tough The bed was to soft and my husband complained about back ache

The staff were not friendly. I have been to 3 star hotels that were far more superior to what the Royal Hotel offered. The hotel used to be a hotel for royalty as the British Royal hotel used to stay there. There was no hot water in my room. When I left I vowed I would not return there.

Gut renoviertes, im positiven Sinne altes Hotel mit Athmosphaere. Perfekte, zentrale Lage.Grosse Auswahl an hoteleigenen Restaurants, Cafes, ... Kein guter Ausbildungsstand des Bedienungspersonals: beim Fruehstueck massive logistische Probleme. Lange Wartezeiten bei Anfragen an der Rezeption (Handtuecher fuer's Zimmer, ...). Café behauptet zur Hauptverkehrszeit (18:00), bei voller Besetzung, man sei 'closed' ... es stellt sich heraus, dass nicht genuegend Personal da ist. Abruptes, fruehes Schliessen der Bar und saemtlicher Restaurants um Mitternacht, trotz Riesenandrang wegen der Filmfestivalbesucher.
