The Royal Hotel  

The hotel staff were great, we arrived early. They gave us a place to place our bags in the mean time and even managed to check us in early as we were travelling with a young child. It was a pleasure to stay at the hotel and the breakfast was divine.

No buffet dinner and the restaurant closes too early.

Not much really. However I did appriciate a lot when I needed to go to the pharmacy late in the evening (in a doggy area) and the receptionist was so concerned about me going to that area alone that she accompanied me! That was above and beyond for sure!

Building Works which however they stopped after complaining. Poor breakfast. Poor room service - you have to wait forever before you get served if you are lucky (once they called us an hour after ordering telling us that they did not have what we ordered!!!). The worst of all (biggest joke ever) the safe was not mounted. Anyone who wishes to steel you can just walk away with the safe!!!!!

I stayed at the royal hotel 25 years ago on my honeymoon.I Felt it would be special to relive the memory of the day 25 years to the day we booked in.

Nothing, bad service

The hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel. I travel worlwide and this is untrue. I have stayed in 3 star hotels and received better service. The rooms are dirty with soiled curtains. Towels and linen were stained and only one bath towel was supplied to a room with two occupants. We found hairs in the bed linen, which had supposedly been changed before we arrived. This was definitely not the case. We waited 2 hours for room service, which were frozen waffles that had been toasted and burnt.Staff were useless when it came to sorting out problems. When approached about the shocking cleanliness of the rooms, they promised to look into into but nothing was done. I feel the price paid for a room which is rated 4 star is a rip off. This hotel needs to be reviewed on their rating as it is definitely not 4 star. I will never stay here again and would not recommend it to any of my colleagues and friends.

The breakfast was very nice, staff were helpful and friendly.

Our room didn't look like it did in the picture, it was more like a economic option. The aircom settings weren't really that much. The fridge was leaking water and freezing everything. I feel I've paid too much for what I got

The cleaness of the hotel, the proffesional staff and the luxury of the hotel

The fact the pool deck was not up to standard, while it was so windy by the beach I would have liked to relax by the pool.

Beautiful hotel with decades of history but terrible staff!! Incompetent!! Only one or two helpful people. Breakfast was awful. Still waiting for my coffee. Staff not very informed. Did not even know where the British Airways office was - also did not make an effort to find out. Beautiful bay view and it is a shame that a hotel with so much potential is so neglected. Tv reception is terrible. Come on Royal Hotel!! Step up to Durban's standards!!!

Excellent Location, Very clean well maintained rooms.

Hotel food was very bland and tasteless for the price paid, staff was under trained and slow to respond to simple requests. Service needs to be improved to justify the price charged for the room.

Die zentrale Lage und die Aussicht aus dem Zimmer waren sehr gut, außerdem die Möglichkeit, aus dem Parkhaus direkt ins Hotel zu kommen. Einzelne Mitarbeiter waren sehr bemüht und freundlich. Das Ambiente im Empfangsbereich war sehr ansprechend.

Das Frühstück ließ sehr zu wünschen übrig (flüssiges Rührei, schlechter Orangensaft, wenig Obst, Bestellungen wurden nur sehr langsam erledigt). Reklamationen (zu wenig Handtücher) wurden erst am Folgetag erledigt. Keine Möglichkeit, ins Internet zu gehen. Kein Stadtplan von Durban an der Rezeption vorhanden. Frühstücksraum wurde erst eine halbe Stunde nach der angegebenen Zeit geöffnet.

Fitness offer like squash and pool.

Very nice hotell but undicreable bad service at the restaurant left hand side from the lobby.
