The fact that Booking.com tried to make us pay R2500 for a room that the hotel sells for R1250. This underhanded subterfuge ("…one room left at this price…") when the hotel had dozens of exactly the same thing at half that price has led to a resolve never to use the service again. Shame on you!
What i like most was the cleanliness of our room,buffet breakfast and the staff were friendly. I can advice people to book Royal hotel. It is a place to be.

I liked every thing about the hotel from the welcoming, every thing was in place when we arrive.
What a dissapointment!!! I can't say anything good about the hotel that was once a excellent hotel!!
I thought I treated my husband and made a booking for 2 nights but what a massive mistake it was. The mattress was a disgrace, the food was barely enough for the amount of pleople. No service exist. Carpets was dirty. Not what you expect from a 4* hotel. This was money wasted!! Dangerous area. Parking was pathetic. Never again will we go there.
The aircon would not work all the time. there were only lace curtains so the sun would come in early in the morning and combined with an aircon that was not working - you could not sleep well, and it was only on my last day I saw a thicker one behind the lace curtain. the cleaners do not use aprons when cleaning the bathrooms and come in to make the bed with the same filthy uniform they used to clean the bathroom - this was really disgusting. Even saw our cleaner use the used towels to wipe the bath, sinks and floor - yuck!!!!!! anybody can park in disabled parking - even after I complained nothing was done about it. the keys to the room would continuously not work and we would be "warned" about keeping it close to a cellphone - even though it was not the case at all. one day we could not access either of the rooms and we were locked out until security came. breakfast was too boring - beef is far more readily available than anything else. I could see that we were allocated to rooms that were much older - I say this because I saw a few rooms whilst they were being cleaned when waiting by the elevators. Royal Hotel deserves a rating of maybe 2 - could even be less. they are in no way a 4-star establishment - absolute lies. Will never ever go there again.

The hotel was so intimidating with its beauty and the hotel staff that assisted us from the lady in the check in point to porters were all very presentable especially (Eric & Gaba). The hotel rooms were exceptionally good and inviting.We were treated like royalty.
The parking boom gate was not functional especially for the existing point.

Breakfast was nice.
Our room had a bad smell, from day one till the last day.The toilet was leaking, I reported it, but it was never repaired. I booked 2 rooms for 5 adults (family) under Special request. My request was never turned away, however every time we went for breakfast, it was a battle.On few occasions I was embarrassed in front of people about the breakfast. I didn't enjoy my stay at all, I was highly inconvenienced.

I had booked 2 rooms online and I had difficulty finding the second room because someone who has the same surname and same initials claimed my room. I had to wait for the staff to find a vacant room
In so far as assisting with solving logistical problems that was very good.
Even though I booked online submitting my request that it was our 25th wedding anniversary I expected a bit more eg a bottle of champagne etc.

This is honestly the worst 4 star hotel I have ever encountered. It was beyond terrible: - decor/furniture & fittings looked like it hadn't been changed in 20 years - multiple stains on the carpets - still had a 20" Nokia CRT TV (the relic belongs in a museum) - no extractor fans in bathrooms so the entire floor smells damp after people wake up and bath - the food was less than spectacular; not bad but decidedly boring. I have previously stayed at the 10 woodlands drive guesthouse in durban and I will most certainly be going back there; my dalliance with this hotel has put me off for life!

Breakfast was tasteless and lifts were very scary to use. parking was a nightmare.
the room was nicely furnished and well kept and clean. but the rest of the hotel seemed a bit tired from an atmosphere point of view and the staff were ok but not great. The breakfast was excellent though
The Bar Fridge was not stocked. The room aircon didn't work.
We had an incident we forgot the car keys at the counter when we realised in the morning we couldn't find it as they said we didn't leave it there, eventually it was found that they had given it to another client by mistake, thanks to that client worse could have happened. We could have lost that car.
Very old hotel but with a great heritage feel.
