|KwaMbili Game Lodge is situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve near Hoedspruit. It offers a restaurant, an outdoor pool and a secluded game viewing deck, overlooking a permanent waterhole.|
The game viewing experience was excellent, we had a knowledgable guide, the game vehicles were very comfortable and we felt safe in all respects. The camp was like a dream, accommodation superb and comfortable and the care was first class. Everything about this 3 days was memorable.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Great safari experience. Met all our expectations. Game drives were superb, made especially enjoyable by Elvis, our game driver, who was knowledgeable, witty and determined to find all animals. Saw nearly every possible animal the first evening (a stroke of luck), but continued to enjoy the remaining five drives as we saw animals in different environments and circumstances. Food was good, with plenty of variety and options. Accommodation is in reed-walled buts with thatch roofs.
Note the following, so that you are not surprised (not intended as criticisms). No electricity, cell phone service or wifi (despite what Booking.com says), but camera, phone and computer charging is available at a central location. Huts have solar flashlights which work well, but no chairs or tables —must go to the bar or dining areas to sit or work at a table. Like nearly all African places, beds had duvets which were often too hot if you used them and too cold if you didn’t. A sheet and a single light blanket would work better. We stayed three nights, which we enjoyed, but two nights is probably adequate if budgets or time is tight. Be sure to arrive prior to lunch served at 1:30. Tipping of drivers, staff and “hosts” is expected (the service was good), so budget accordingly.
So nice! This is the right setting for your game drives. In the middle of the bush on the banks of a (mostly) dry river with view on a waterhole. Spacious huts (8) with outside shower still with all the comfort. Outside dining with open fire. Great food. And the game drives with knowledgeable and fun rangers. Each time you go on an adventure! You see the animals up close. Amazing.
No a/c , refrigeration, lighting Totally primitive
Staff friendliness and the camaraderie with other guests. The landrovers for the game drives were exceptionally comfortable. The rangers really went out of their way, even to tracking lions on foot and unarmed to show us soft Westerners a view of 3 resting lions.
The frog in the bedroom and the rain!
Everything! - No electricity so peace and quiet apart from nature. Game drives amazing - really close to wildlife. Food was good but not excellent. Ethos of the camp and keeping in harmony with wildlife important.
Slightly difficult drive in along unsealed road.
