being picked up from the airport by Dudley who was friendly and chatty. Anne and Bruce's welcome, They are a lovely couple and gave us all the hints and tips we needed. Local area is good and quiet, local facilities two blocks away in relatively safe area. Lovely room. Lovely breakfasts
Capetown centre is easily walkable down the hill. The advice was not to walk back after dark.
Beautifully and lovingly restored house. Good access to things to see/do. Run by people who care and look after you.
The personal way we were treated by the staf; the breakfast;
Nearly a perfect accommodation. We stayed in the Suite. It was spacious and very clean. The location ist perfect. Situated in a safe neighbourhood you can reach plenty of good restaurants on foot.
Very convenient for city centre and some good restaurants in particular the Millard thumb which was the best steak I have ever had! My wife had kingklip and it was great too. The underberg is wonderful and the hosts very helpful with useful information
It is a fair walk to the port shops however taxis are cheap
The Underberg is in a lovely part of Capetown and the guesthouse is like a nice big home. From the time I began making enquiries Ann was quick to answer emails and make helpful suggestions. She arranged an airport transfer for us and booked us into the popular Millers Thumb seafood restaurant close by. The accommodation exceeded our expectations. Comfy beds, lovely decor, a lounge with books and magazines, delicious breakfast, clean, spacious, cosy, and just really homely. Ann booked a Cape Point tour for us with Paul which was wonderful and also recommended a local car hire company which worked out well. Both Bruce and Ann were perfect hosts, recommending lots of things we might be interested in and always willing to make time for a chat.
thanks to bruce and anne for 5 wonderful days, nina and marcel
The welcome from the owners (who arranged our airport taxi) and continuous help and advice during our two day stay on where to eat, bus trips to take and best local shopping. Cleanliness. Good and comfortable accommodation. Breakfast. Security.
Location, cleanliness, hospitality of hosts, security, Wi-Fi, breakfast, room
We began our tour of the Cape in Capetown and couldn't of chosen a better place to stay. Anne the owner was so helpful - her assistance got us off to a great holiday. Don't go to a 'faceless' hotel - stay here!
The Underberg Guesthouse in Cape Town is a well located, beautifully renovated house, with Anne and Bruce the perfect hosts for a thoroughly enjoyable Cape Town stay.
Everything!!!! The owners, the building, the room, great place to go. When I come back to Cape Town, I'll go to Underbreg Guest House, of course!!!
everything in walking distance, clean and comfortable, great helpful staff,
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, taking great care of me as a guest. Breakfasts were delicious and the rooms were clean and comfortable. I loved the location! It was great to be able to walk to Kloof street and visit shops and restaurants. I also loved being able to walk out the front door and see Table Mountain and Lion's Head right there. Free wifi was also much appreciated. I would definitely stay here again!
Our stay at Underberg was excellent thanks to Anne and Bruce as well as their superb house. They were available anytime of the day for good advices regarding sight seeing, restaurants, events, car renting, etc. The house and the rooms were spotless clean and really comfortable. Wifi was working fine. Breakfast was generous, varied and very good. We liked very much the "honesty bar" and the books we could find here and there in the guesthouse. The location is as well very convenient: in a safe and quiet area, close to the city center by walk also to lively streets with pubs and restaurants at nights. Parking is possible just outside the house.
Location, the property itself, the neighborhood, proximity to Table Mountain ; it's right in the heart of it all ;) good staff! Anne and Bruce were really helpful! Anne arranged Mark the driver to get us from the airport and Mark was really helpful too ;)
A little cold at night :( could have a stronger heater in the room :)
The owners are outstandingly friendly
The Underberg Guest House was wonderful and lived up to the standards set by all amazing reviews that I read. We had an absolutely lovely stay in Cape Town and at the Underberg Guest House and only wish we could have stayed longer. The Underberg Guest House is a gorgeous (and huge) 2-story house in a very good neighborhood in Cape Town. It is within walking distance from Long Street where the bar scene is, many wonderful restaurants and right in between the Waterfront and Table Mountain. It is an ideal location because it is situated right in the middle of all the sights but yet away from all the touristy madness as it is in a lovely residential area. We arrived at Cape Town Airport late in the evening and Anne (the point of contact at Underberg) asked us whether we wished to arrange for car service. Given the late hour, we asked that they arrange car service for us and someone was waiting right outside the terminal with our names. Given the late hour of our arrival, the driver took us first to find food before taking us back to the Guesthouse. We had a nice room on the second floor of the House with an en suite restroom. The bed was large and very comfy and each room came with a flat screen tv. The room itself was a good size, especially since it was just a bedroom. The room was also cleaned every day. Breakfast is served downstairs in the dining room every morning from 7-10am-ish. They aren't strict on the end time for breakfast which is nice because they don't hurry you along if you end up sauntering into the dining room around 9:30am. They have a small buffet set up with just enough items for a good breakfast: fruit mixture, three types of bread to toast, a small cheese platter, a small meat platter, yogurt and juices. As soon as you arrive, Anne (or Bruce!) would come in, welcome you and ask what you would like to drink and take your order for hot food (i.e. eggs the way you want them, bacon, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes).
The wifi was not the strongest 24/7 and unfortunately if an issue arose overnight, it couldn't be resolved until the morning. Nevertheless, I was still able to connect (if sometimes slower) and wifi was immediately fixed upon Anne's arrival.
Anne & Bruce were very welcoming in & helpful, booking us to go to Robben Island when it was booked up online & at the museum.
The hosts, Bruce and Anne, couldn't have been any more accommodating, pleasant, or helpful. Aside from the superb service, the location was great as was the breakfast. I've recommended Underberg to friends traveling to Cape Town this fall and will definitely stay there again should I return.
Underberg Guest House is a beautiful property with large and comfortable rooms. It is located within easy walking distance of good restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shops, but is on a very quiet street. Bruce and Anne are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about Cape Town. They organized an airport pick up for us that was cheaper than the metered taxi fare I took previously.
Beautifully appointed guest house in an excellent location. Hosts very friendly and informative ..would highly recommend . Suzanne &John ... Melbourne
I liked the hospitality and the decoration. Rooms were big and the area although not in the center , it was very nice.
There was no air-condition so during winder of summer hot days, could be a problem.
Lovely people - very hospitable and helpful helping with excursions and making reservations for dinner etc. A very comfortable bedroom. Delicious breakfast. A first class place to stay in Cape Town - what more is there to ask for.
Nothing to dislike
The service was great, the breakfast delicious and the location superb! The rooms are cozy, warm and spotless. I will definitely stay again when in Cape Town!
