Very nice apartment and owner Katrin die everything to make us feel at home. Bottle of wine when we arrived! Although she doesn't serve breakfast anymore, she arranged for some basics. She also gave us some very good advice how to make the most out of our limited time in Cape Town.
Be prepared for a climb if you walk up to the apartment.
The location was excellent - historic Cape Town, cobbled streets, fabulous views and all of Cape Town's attractions within easy reach. My flatlet was utterly charming and the kitchen space realistic. It was comfortable, roomy, a bit quirky and just perfect.
There was nothing I didn't like.
Location, Decor, efficiency
View spoiled by neighboring property. No off-street parking
Katrin was amazingly helpful and always available when we needed some advice. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Well equipped kitchen. The view from the balcony room is fantastic. The short walk to Long street or even to the Waterfront is not a problem at all and we enjoyed the immediate surrounding (during the night we took a taxi, which is extremely cheap).
The view of Table Mountain from every window, friendly and supportive staff, comfortable and clean room all contributed to a great stay. I will stay here on my next trip to Cape Town.
I travel a lot on business but this time it was for pleasure with my wife and it exceeded all expectations. The owner was very accommodating and welcomed us with a bottle of wine although we arrived late at night. We we made most at home. We did not use the kitchen that is why I did not rate it excellent but everything was there. Comfort was not the owner's fault. We arrived in winter and in Canada we are used to central heating. The heater provided was adequate but we felt cold. Location was excellent and the view beautiful. walking down to the City Bowl was a few minutes. Walking back up was not bad either but you have to be fit.
Not much. It rained but it was not the hotel's fault. Some more hooks or rails in the bathroom would be useful.
Supernice, huge, renovated room with nice beds, a small kitchenette, large bathroom with both nice bath tub and a shower. The hotel also had a large swimming pool with sun beds, a shared kitchen, a large shared balcony with the view over the whole city as well as the Table Mountain. The place felt safe with bars at the main gate as well as outside the room, however no safety box in the room. Located on a hill it was a 5 minute steep walk down hill to get to long street and kloof street with a lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Back its worth taking a taxi even in daytime due to the steep walk, taxi costs about 30 Rand. It was about 40 minutes walk or 10 minutes by taxi to get to the waterfront.
It did not look like a hotel from the outside, the taxi driver had difficulties finding it and the neighbors didn't know it was a hotel. I would not walk in that neighborhood after dark, it was nothing going on there, no people on the streets and no street lights. However, in daytime it was kind of nice.
Lovely view (we had the room with the terras), wonderful appartement, nice room, good bed, small swimming pool, good breakfast.
The accomodation is up the hill, so take a taxi (30R from city centre) when going there. Because the street is quiet and not completely safe, one has to take a taxi at night too.
Very good location to experience Cape Town.
We've stayed many times before & it is always a delight to be there. The owner is kindness itself, the view of Table Mt. & the City just wonderful & the breakfast a feast! Set on the hillside it is above the City though close enough to walk down into the centre & the Waterfront. Couldn't be better!
Excellent host/owner. Very welcoming, kind and useful. Would highly recommend to stay here.
Quirky guest house / stunning views / friendly and felt like a home from home.
Directions and first approach was via a very steep hill....but once we sussed out where it was it was fine via other routes.
The vieuw was excellent
The room was small.
Great place! Within walking distance of the city center and waterfront. Wonderful view from the breakfast room and balcony of the city and the waterfront, as well as Table Mountain. Katrin, the owner, was a wonderful host. Excellent continental (German) style breakfast with great breads, cheese, cold cuts, eggs, fruit, cereal, yogurt, home-made pastries and muffins, etc.. Our room (#6) was large with full kitchen, couch and coffee table, queen size bed, shower and tub.
wifi did not reliably reach our room (but worked well in common areas). Like nearly all African places, the bed had a duvet which was too hot if you used it and too cold if you didn’t (sheets and light blankets work so much better in our view).
Fantastic b&b in Cape town! Amazing views, value for money, breakfast and swimming pool. Is all you need for Cape Town!
We liked the location a lot. The views from the balcony were lovely.
It was too hot in the room, and not really a good cooling solution.
Fantastic views of Table Mountain. Great pool for a hot summer day!
Like all places in Cape Town, need to be cautious when returning to the hotel late at night. Difficult to find with a taxi driver too
We really enjoyed our stay at Upperbloem and Katrin was a great and helpful host. Although our room was very small (we had booked the small double room), the house felt very spacious with the large communal kitchen and lovely roof terrace with fantastic views over Cape Town and the Table Mountain. The swimming pool was the largest we've seen at all guest houses we've stayed at during our holiday in South-Africa. We definitely would recommend this accommodation, especially the bigger rooms.
Rooms have no air conditioning, only fans. Our room was very warm and it was hard to cool it down.
This place is really lovely, my room was big and the views were beautiful. The staff looked after you well and the pool was divine (I was upset the weather wasn't great during my stay as when it was hot the pool was fantastic). The breakfast every morning was very cute. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel like they're in the real cape town.
When I first drove there, there was a moment when you're a little worried about the area...but once you get to the place itself it is totally fine. Don't walk to/from at night, day is fine, I had a car so there was no issue for me whatsoever.
Best place to begin your journey !
We loved everything about our stay: The great breakfasts high above the city with a view of Table Mountain and Table Bay, the kind owner, the lively neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap, the pool and sun loungers - it has been a great stay, and we highly recommend Upperbloem.
It was like staying at your sister's place! Kathrin is extremly helpful, the guesthouse is perfect with a stunning view. It is not walking distance but the taxi costs 5 dolar to the city center. Breakfast is amazing. I will absolutly go again!!
Upperbloem is situated in a spectacular part of Cape Town with magnificent views. Katrina is helpful and nothing is to much trouble.
The view from the guest house was overall very good.
First of all its a guest house and not a hotel. Even though the view is amazing, its not in a very safe neighborhood because we were even warned not to walk around at night. There is no reception or atleast a fulltime receptionist which makes the stay difficult. Everything in the standard room was white and i was nearly blinded, with very cheap furniture and curtains. They provide the so called European breakfast, no warm breakfast like fried eggs and bacon. No transport provided to the hotel. Overall you dont get value for money and i honestly wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
