Great place to stay with stunning views, quietly situated away from the road. Very kind and helpful staff. Manager Suzette a welcoming host.
Airco making noise at the front of the veranda. Better located at the back of the rooms.
This was one of the best places I ever stayed in my life. The rooms is very big with a sitting room and very comfortable. The garden is fantastic, perfect to relax in. The mountain view is wonderful, sometimes it feels like Switserland.
Luxury room upstairs has a wood deck floor~not insulated. Music from downstairs early in the morning and talking from the bar below at night.
Location. Received a room upgrade - very nice. Quiet, slept well, good, large bathroom. Outstanding value.
Proximity to Franschoek yet quiet and relaxed
Smell of towels and sheets (old smoke?)
The scenery Location Ambience
Table seating in the eating area. I think that they should have more tables with two seaters as there was more couples than groups. Sometimes one feels uncomfortable to sit at the same table as other people or you feel obligated to eat and go.
Everything was so perfect including a really fantastic breakfast, it was one of the most perfect establishments I have every stayed in. It was a real treat and you know that you spoiled yourself and gave me the opportunity to chill out big time.
Nothing, except the dirt track road.
We were very well received by the gentleman at reception. Everything was handled so efficiently and we had an issue-free stay. Breakfast was awesome and we had it whilst sitting outside on the patio with the beautiful gardens as our view. The bedroom and bathroom were large and very spacious. Cable TV was offered as well as complimentary team coffee, water and fruit in our rooms. We had a lovely time and thank you very much for having us. Will definitely recommend to others.
The heated floors and big bathroom
Everyone is helpfull . The house so nice.
Internet facilities can't connect too slow.
location value for money was superb
I asked you for a double bed when i booked but we got 2 twin beds pushed together
A most enjoyable stay in lovely surroundings . Staff very pleasant. Loved the cosy fire and resident cats !
A very annoying air conditioner. Clicked and buzzed after running for a while. Being right above the entrance and kitchen area we unfortunately could hear the staff coming in and moving around early in the morning, even though we are sure that they were trying not to be noisy.
As a returning client, I did not like the fact that we were given a much smaller room than the previous visit that smelled of fresh paint and it was very pokey. The key did not fit the door to the courtyard so we couldn't use that. There were not enough plug points to have everything on and still charge my phone so had to unplug the bedside lamp for that. And I had booked 3 months in advance. The breakfast room was freezing and not pleasant at all.
The owner (Suzette) was extremely kind and a hostess that didn't stop at anything (sending your breakfast up to the room!) to ensure your stay was good.
We were the only people staying on the night we were there (it was a quiet Sunday night in mid winter), but that didn't mean that services were diminished in any way. On the contrary, we were given a room upgrade, and when we came down for breakfast, we were welcomed by a roaring fire in the breakfast room and an amazing spread of food. I would recommend Val D'Or to anyone.
Flooded driveway in need of maintenance
Was pleasant, easy and no fuss
- two single mattresses pushed together - the breakfast was very poor - two light bulbs were broken in the room - didn't believe it was deserving of it's 4 stars

The staff, environs, food and accommodations were great.
The only thing was the internet was out because of a storm.
