The staff show very personal interest in us and went the extra mile to accommodate our individual needs. The setting is something special! A real taste of South African history and hospitality. Beautiful! Loved the stay. Found it hard to leave.
Our bath in unit 1 was very small and there was no large mirror. Suggestion: try hanging one from the gumpole truss above the bath to the chimney wall in a nice ornate frame.
The estate is very nice, relaxing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Amazing staff at dinner. The rooms show love for details.
The location. Outside of Stellenbosch. You will need a car or a driver. You do not feel very save on the road from the estate to Stellenbosch. Not good if you are allergic - the rooms are in the thatched attic. Beware the steep stairs! The "bathroom-situation" in the room (no separate room for the toilet)
The beautiful location Great service from staff Stunning bath in room
Very cramped Tall fiance couldn't use the toilet standing! Strange setup of airconditioner Little privacy with the toilet (better solution needed)
Besutiful old estate. One nearly feels like royalty.
Extremely warm in the loft and provided air conditioning is very noisy and ineffective. The thatched roof is a sanctuary for mosquitoes so take some spray along. No mosquito nets provided.
Absolutely stunning location! The house is in the Cape Dutch style has been beautifully renovated and the grounds & gardens are stunning. Staff were exemplary, Mike & Hennie in particular were outstanding. A wonderful place & the highlight of our South African holiday.
If historical setting, breathtaking beauty and exceptional conversion of an original Cape Dutch Homestead dating back to the early Cape settlement is the experience you are after- this is unbeatable and exceptional value for money ( We stayed in a loft room in Manor house)
Being a loft room and January in Stellenbosch- it was HOT! ( One of the estate's newborn puppies died of heat stroke) There is a portable aircon but its ratio of noise and vibrations to cold air meant we rather suffered the heat than deal with its industrial level noise.
Typcal Dutch house: you will stay right under the roof! Very secure and pretty garden. Nice baroque decoration. Breakfast was good too.
Straw roof and old carpet, so if you have allergies it is not recommended! A very steep staircase to climb, but it is part of the charm. We could hear all the noises outside so it is fine when frogs sing, but not the grass mowed at 7.30... Toilets are in the bedroom and not much to conceal them (!)
We loved the luxurious room in the attic and the amazing attention to detail. The garden and surrounds were fragrant and inspring. The meal in the restaurant was very tasty and authentic. All the staff were freindly espciaĺly the lovely Lorna. Would definitely stay again.
The building are charming. The staff are friendly.
Sleeping so close to the thatch, you shouldn't be allergic... the air-con is very noisy. It is not convenient to have a common breakfast area for the rooms in the middle of the 4 room.
The house, the decor, the grounds, the food
The toilet in the bedroom, no shower (beautiful bath tho) and poor wifi. Lack of orientation about local area.
Whilst the estate and rooms were stunning, they were not the best thing about this place, the friendly, helpful and just downright great staff were fantastic, we had a very early breakfast on one day that was supplied with smiles and a chat many hours before the breakfast was supposed to start, special thanks go to Mike who was brilliant, especially the tour he gave us on our first day! one of the stand out stays in our trip to South Africa.
That I had to leave!
Unique setting and fabulous staff
We stayed here for only 1 night and loved every minute of our stay. The magnificent homestead with its beautiful antique furnishings and stunning paintings made Weltevreden a unique experience. We were welcomed by Jean-Paul who showed us to our bedroom, and then took us on a tour of the estate, including the amazing private Porsche collection. Breathtaking. All the staff members we met could not have been nicer and more helpful. I can highly recommend Weltevreden.
I didn't like the "open plan" toilet in the bedroom and feel that this should be mentioned to clients when bookings are made.
What a beautiful place. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to a friend.
We couldn't pick up wi-fi while we were there.
Lovely room in the roof. Great friendly staff. Perfect breakfast outside. Saw the Porsches as well- v impressive. Brilliant value for money in a lovely relaxing setting.
No hot water but they said they were working to fix this.
Jean-Paul was amazing and very kind. Incredible customer service!
I didn't like the staircase going up to the room. It seemed insecure and was too steep.
We had a lovely room in the main building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We only stayed for one night but would have stayed more if we'd had time. Breakfast on the lawn with the peacocks was great!! We would recommend it to everyone.
We had a great stay at the Weltevreden and there's nothing that we would complain about. Wifi connection didn't reach the rooms but who cares when you're on a trip in South Africa!
Helpful staff, nice grounds.
Steep steps poor facilities in a primative room, not what we expected from the description.
Admirably restored Cape Dutch mansion, full of character. Great interior design and art collection.
As much as I admire the design and the XIX century character, not to have access to a shower in the XXI century is a definite No Go! If a room comes just with a bath, then it should be clearly bookable as a separate room type. Not randomly assigned. And there should at least be some proper bath toiletries provided - like foams and salts. Not just soap and shampoo.
cramped bathroom, poor aircon, sound travels between rooms, stairs not ideal
Renovation of old house is amazing!
Location is a let down, but makes for more affordable accomodation:)
Attention to detail by the owner and staff was excellent..Outstanding decor, grounds were perfectly manicured.Locality was great.Breakfast outstanding.Owner and staff were very friendly and helpful.
No water on the second night.Toilet in the bedroom, not enough privacy.Stairway to the rooms located in the loft were very steep.Elderly would find it almost impossible to carry their luggage up the stairs.
Very beautiful setting Staff are amazing Tea and coffee facilities always available in lovely living rooms
No swimming pool
We stayed at this place only 2 nights during the wine festival. The estate has only a few rooms, very private and home feeling. Fantstic old building with old furniture, wonderful surounding with good park, incredible friendly staff, on our request our breakfast was served in the garden. The resonant in the estate is worth to visit as well.
Friendly, beautiful yet quirky design (statues/ peacocks/ carved trees) good for families and couples, nice restaurant and fun outdoor activities/playground for young kids.
basic air conditioning vr noisy and no pool
