If I could give the staff and setting a 12 out of 10, I would. Every staff member from the security to the management made us feel like we were royalty.

Only downside was loo in the bedroom (but think not all rooms) and wifi not in the bedroom but made an exception on that on account of all the ups.
Beautiful room in a lovely manor house. Delicious breakfast in the grand dining room and sipping wine on comfy outdoor sofas under a pergola.

Very difficult to contact beforehand, no one seems to man the phone and some emails unanswered. Restaurant actually closed at 5pm instead of 9pm as on website - although they were very helpful and served us individually away from the restaurant, special but not expected. Wifi wasn't available from our room, had to sit down the hall. Also issue with bathroom privacy - but rooms are stunning.
The room and immediate location is gorgeous, easy to get to vineyards via car. Restaurant has fun memorabilia and serves a good lunch. Easy check-in and out and the staff are very accomodating. Great place to stay.

The estate and the rooms are beautiful. It is a lovely place to just spend an afternoon sitting in the garden. The staff could not have been more helpful.

Dinner interesting, chef goes home at 5 and leaves food prepared to be heated later. 6 guests eating, only 2 got correct food, had to change around after starting, bit of a mezze!
Staff excellent, couldn't be more helpful, breakfast also excellent. Accommodation very comfortable & unusual, be warned toilet in bedroom behind screen, not for the shy! Otherwise can't fault the house or grounds or the warm welcome.

The four bedrooms are in a converted loft under a thatch roof. But with no insulation the noise at dawn is enough to wake anyone, from dogs barking to the peacocks calling etc, etc. They may as well be in the room. There is actually less room in the bedrooms than appears on the photographs and being 6'3'' the sloping beams were an issue. The wi fi was intermittent, with non for two days. The water supply was also intermittent on two days. On some web sites it give the impression there is a swimming pool, but it is yet to be built. Overall the facilities and standard of the place could not make up for the poor quality of sleep, so will not be revisiting.
A 200 year old property renovated to a very high standard both inside and out. the food provided was very good but not excellent. The staff were very accommodating and helpful.

Management personnel could be more professional. 'our' eatingroom and kitchen was used for all guests in the morning, forcing you to wake up early as it is adjacent to the bedroom. A total contrast with the privacy in the evenings. For that price tag one would expect better.
I stayed in the executive suite for two nights. Beautiful room and bathroom. At night we had the whole downstairs manor house to ourselves.

Our bath in unit 1 was very small and there was no large mirror. Suggestion: try hanging one from the gumpole truss above the bath to the chimney wall in a nice ornate frame.
The staff show very personal interest in us and went the extra mile to accommodate our individual needs. The setting is something special! A real taste of South African history and hospitality. Beautiful! Loved the stay. Found it hard to leave.

The location. Outside of Stellenbosch. You will need a car or a driver. You do not feel very save on the road from the estate to Stellenbosch. Not good if you are allergic - the rooms are in the thatched attic. Beware the steep stairs! The "bathroom-situation" in the room (no separate room for the toilet)
The estate is very nice, relaxing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Amazing staff at dinner. The rooms show love for details.

Very cramped Tall fiance couldn't use the toilet standing! Strange setup of airconditioner Little privacy with the toilet (better solution needed)
The beautiful location Great service from staff Stunning bath in room

Extremely warm in the loft and provided air conditioning is very noisy and ineffective. The thatched roof is a sanctuary for mosquitoes so take some spray along. No mosquito nets provided.
Besutiful old estate. One nearly feels like royalty.

Absolutely stunning location! The house is in the Cape Dutch style has been beautifully renovated and the grounds & gardens are stunning. Staff were exemplary, Mike & Hennie in particular were outstanding. A wonderful place & the highlight of our South African holiday.

Being a loft room and January in Stellenbosch- it was HOT! ( One of the estate's newborn puppies died of heat stroke) There is a portable aircon but its ratio of noise and vibrations to cold air meant we rather suffered the heat than deal with its industrial level noise.
If historical setting, breathtaking beauty and exceptional conversion of an original Cape Dutch Homestead dating back to the early Cape settlement is the experience you are after- this is unbeatable and exceptional value for money ( We stayed in a loft room in Manor house)

Straw roof and old carpet, so if you have allergies it is not recommended! A very steep staircase to climb, but it is part of the charm. We could hear all the noises outside so it is fine when frogs sing, but not the grass mowed at 7.30... Toilets are in the bedroom and not much to conceal them (!)
Typcal Dutch house: you will stay right under the roof! Very secure and pretty garden. Nice baroque decoration. Breakfast was good too.

We loved the luxurious room in the attic and the amazing attention to detail. The garden and surrounds were fragrant and inspring. The meal in the restaurant was very tasty and authentic. All the staff were freindly espciaĺly the lovely Lorna. Would definitely stay again.
November 10, 2014
Sleeping so close to the thatch, you shouldn't be allergic... the air-con is very noisy. It is not convenient to have a common breakfast area for the rooms in the middle of the 4 room.
The building are charming. The staff are friendly.
November 8, 2014
The toilet in the bedroom, no shower (beautiful bath tho) and poor wifi. Lack of orientation about local area.
The house, the decor, the grounds, the food

That I had to leave!
Whilst the estate and rooms were stunning, they were not the best thing about this place, the friendly, helpful and just downright great staff were fantastic, we had a very early breakfast on one day that was supplied with smiles and a chat many hours before the breakfast was supposed to start, special thanks go to Mike who was brilliant, especially the tour he gave us on our first day! one of the stand out stays in our trip to South Africa.

Unique setting and fabulous staff
April 15, 2014
I didn't like the "open plan" toilet in the bedroom and feel that this should be mentioned to clients when bookings are made.
We stayed here for only 1 night and loved every minute of our stay. The magnificent homestead with its beautiful antique furnishings and stunning paintings made Weltevreden a unique experience. We were welcomed by Jean-Paul who showed us to our bedroom, and then took us on a tour of the estate, including the amazing private Porsche collection. Breathtaking. All the staff members we met could not have been nicer and more helpful. I can highly recommend Weltevreden.
April 4, 2014
We couldn't pick up wi-fi while we were there.
What a beautiful place. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to a friend.
April 2, 2014
No hot water but they said they were working to fix this.
Lovely room in the roof. Great friendly staff. Perfect breakfast outside. Saw the Porsches as well- v impressive. Brilliant value for money in a lovely relaxing setting.
April 1, 2014
I didn't like the staircase going up to the room. It seemed insecure and was too steep.
Jean-Paul was amazing and very kind. Incredible customer service!
March 17, 2014
We had a great stay at the Weltevreden and there's nothing that we would complain about. Wifi connection didn't reach the rooms but who cares when you're on a trip in South Africa!
We had a lovely room in the main building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We only stayed for one night but would have stayed more if we'd had time. Breakfast on the lawn with the peacocks was great!! We would recommend it to everyone.

Steep steps poor facilities in a primative room, not what we expected from the description.
Helpful staff, nice grounds.
