Staff very professional and transport tops

The size and location of my room

Being woken up at 08:30 for bar inspection and then cleaning staff at 09:15 to ask me when I was checking out. I had just come in form Kenya and this didn't happen

The rooms were very attractive. The staff was very friendly.

The layout of the hotel makes it burdensome to get to your room or to a restaurant. Distant from anything to do other than what is offered at the hotel. Hotel restaurants were mediocre and service very slow.

Everything, the staff were very attentive and friendly, the service was faultless and room was great

The view from the restaurants was spectactular, the menu good not excellent, the morning/afternoon tea offered was suberb. The room was ( junior suite ) very good especially with the plunge pool just outside the door. The staff withina day knew our names.

A very nice, well-appointed hotel with a certain old-school charm. Very comfortable room, with an excellent bed.

The hotel is starting to feel a little bit dated, and is a little rough around the edges - as an example we had two sinks in the suite, and on one, the cold water tap didn't work. I also found them to be a little bit cheap - when I pay more than EUR300 for a room, I don't expect to have to pay more for water in the room, yet after the first small bottle of water, they charged me ZAR30 per bottle from the minibar. That's something I have never experienced at Taj, Oberoi, Hyatt or even many of the less expensive Jo'burg hotels we stayed at on this trip! And to get the minibar re-plenished, we had to call the front desk 3 times. It left a bad taste after what was otherwise a very nice stay. Come on, Orient Express - learn how to do proper luxury!

Setting beautiful, facilities luxurious although there are signs of fatigue as far as Polo Bar and Restaurant are concerned.

The gardens are beautiful, the rooms have the proportions and style of a by gone era. The view over Johannesburg is lovely. The attention to detail is spot on. Our room was quiet and well heated. There was ample under cover parking.

The history of the place and the location was beautiful. The staff was very attentive and pleasant.

The electronics in the room were not updated. Beware of the TV that comes out of the chest. The contraption malfunctioned in the room and my hand was bruised holding the tv in place so it did not drop and break while I waited for the serviceman.

The tv was nt so user friendly. The room service guy came @ 8am to check mini bar which disturbed us.

The gardens are truly a joy.

I can never understand why a hotel will book a guest into a room that is noisy, has no view and is older when the hotel is far from full and there are substantially nicer rooms for the same price available! I arrived late in the evening and was too tired to ask to be moved once I had been shown to my room.
